It is a tripy, creepy, not family friendly, and yet still more hilarious scene than the one we got in the remake.
No work that's just a product of its time can become a classic. Maybe you're underestimating the weight that Ranma 1/2 holds within Japan's pop culture. This is the godfather of ecchi harem romcoms, genderbender plots and also one of the most important martial arts-focused stories. It's Rumiko Takashi's most popular work, sitting up there with the biggest dogs like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon in cultural relevance.
Ranma 1/2 is responsible for probably half of the comedic tropes and gags within the manga/anime canon. I'm pretty sure Akane is the prototype tsundere that all other tsunderes are modeled after. @@SentinalSlice I think the problem was that the manga was ongoing and the show caught up with it, so they started making stuff up, which led to the show being full of filler episodes that weren't in the manga and added nothing and then it got cancelled and never got an ending. Look, this series is a testament of how much of a genius Takahashi Rumiko is (she's also Inuyasha's creator). I re-read the manga of Ranma 1/2 recently. And after 2 weeks of me re-reading it, the trailer for the remake came out. It was a crazy coincidence considering that I didn't know there was going to be a remake while I was re-reading it and the original anime came out like 3 decades ago
Oh he won't be the only side character you will love. This was one of my first animes when I was young so I have a lot of good memories about it. This show made several studios start producing Genderbent stories because of how popular Ranma 1/2 was. Also inspired a lot of fan-made fics and pretty much the genderbent sub-genre. I just found myself smiling a lot through both episodes. I hope you continue covering this because it is really an amazing show.
NGL ranma awakened me early as ecchi or degenerate manga enjoyer ever since mid school, eventhough I first encounter the anime in grade school as it is aired in my local TV channel. But having access to internet makes me binge the whole series on youtube with the old dub, and complete the manga.
I heard a bit of Ranma 1/2 a few years ago. And I am glad that I wait for the Anime remake! I absolutely love the art direction and animation! Akane and Ranma' dynamics is hilarious but cute as well 🤣😳 Kuno falling in love with Ranma Girl without realising she and boy Ranma are one person was wonderful 😂 Definitely my favourite side character for the moment! I will definitely watch the whole season! I hope it will does well on RUclips 🙏🏻
btw, this goes uncommented quite often but. Nunchuks. One of those boys attacking Akane in the morning (affectionately called the hentai horde by the deep fans) had a set of nunchuks.
The Ranma manga is more fast-paced and farcical in tone than most romcoms tend to be, I think. (Not for nothing has Sorachi admitted to the series being amajor influence on Gintama!) There's no mismatch in tone between the romantic interactions and the magic or martial arts elements, it all just convalesces into one entertaining whole. This new anime adaptation feels very promising so far! And Kuno in the manga is probably the funniest of all the characters.
I never waited something so badly since Fruits Basket 2019. And you can see how Ranma influenced Natsuki Takaya's work. The transformation, the house with the pound... I hope so deeply that Rumiko Takahashi will get the respect she deserved as an author. She's a wonderful woman who made so many great mangas over the years, she's dubbed the emperess of manga. This is a proof that even back then, yes, a woman could get very popular and famouse for her work. I don't remeber much of the anime but damn did I read the manga when I was younger. So far, this adaptation is juts perfect and I can't wait to see all the love triangles poping up x) Kuno is only the first of those characters to be introduced and I couldn't stop laughing watching him be around. I'm just so happy with this season, Uzumaki is the only let down so far for me. Re Zero is doing great, Four Knights of the Apocalypse season 2 is on fire, Dragon Ball Daima is very interesting... Yeah, good stuff, good stuff...
Yeah, Ranma 1/2 was a big deal back in the early days of anime fandom. It was the manga that basically made Viz in its early days, the Ocean Studios dub was the first dub that wasn’t universally reviled, it dominated the fan fiction scene, and the fandom even coined the term “Hammerspace” which has its own Wikipedia article. And that’s just stateside. In Japan it was Shōnen Sunday’s most popular title, the anime ran for 161 episodes, and in terms of popularity, I think only Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon beat it out from that era. Rumiko Takahashi is the best selling female mangaka of all time (and only definitively behind Toriyama, Oda, and Tezuka overall) and Ranma is a big reason why. It’s kind of a shame that a lot of newer fans have no idea of Ranma 1/2. A lot of the basic infrastructure of modern western anime fandom was set by it.
the differences nibiki actually groped ranma in the first episode and tried to make it very clear to soun tendo that ranma was a girl but the groping part was cut short. do you see that old ladle lady who splashes water around her accuracy with hitting ranma is 100% garanteed and she is bloody blind, and lastly the only two voice actors that changed were Kuno aka your best boy and a character named Ukyo that won't be introduced until much much later in the original Ukyo appears in episode 40 so who knows where they will be introduced in the remake
The first anime had a lot of filler in the beginning and stretched out a lot of story lines that were relatively short in the manga. If they follow the manga faithfully, all the major fiances should be introduced first season.
I like how they not just recreate the art style of the manga, but lean so hard into being based on manga, that they add the sound effects kanji/split screen like you would split a comic panel etc... It might get to be to gimmicy in the future but for now it's greeat. The show also leans into looney tune off model posing a lot more. They also really upped the action/fighting scenes, They're much more fluid, and detailed and maybe explicit not gratuitious but not as implied action. For example in the original Ranma and even a lot of old school action Anime (like DBZ). The animation for somebody throwing a ton of punches, would a lot of times be some visual representation of a flurry of punches, that's actually a still or maybe a few cells animated that are basically the outlines of 5-6 arms superimposed on top of eachother with some sort of yello flare affect arround them. But in this new series it's a lot more of watching them shift their body weight arround to execute a throw. For example in the fight over the cursed springs and Genma pops out as a Panda and Ranma is taken by surprise and freaked out, they show him struggling to land on the bamboo poles correctly and him scrambling for balance. It's fast/real time too instead of that cliched slow motion mini thought halfway into a blow that every show does. Ranma does it to but not as commonly.
Yeah.....She was definitely ahead of the times with this Romcom Series that came out during either the 80's or 90's. I can't seem to recall. But what I can say is that so far, its literally following the antics that coming directly from the manga so far. Now that you have the Tendo Family and Kuno Sempai introduced, it gets better and funnier from here. I can't wait until the first female antagonist shows up. I'm really looking forward to their introductions. Especially one of the most popular character during the time, and both are argumentatively the most annoyingly painfully sadistic in a fun way. Can't wait to see how they are animating them, Until next time, Enjoy!!
imo it really doesnt need it. It was done well enough do not warrant it. Since it was the most famous work of rumiko I think that why we got a sequel instead of a remake. I have yet to watch s2 of yashahime but I haven't heard good things about it. Although I heard the manga version is way better and changed the story so ya might want to give that a shot.
When they remake Inuyasha they should cut it down to 40 or so episodes like they did with Urusei Yatsura. It would make that show WAY better. I never did finish that series because I lost interest around episode 140 something. I swear it felt like there was a 100 episodes of nothing really happening and it got super repetitive and boring. Cutting out the fat and getting to the good parts would do wonders for that show.
Honestly I ended up feeling pretty much exactly the same way. I never saw the original but I sorta knew the basic gimmick. I went in expecting to probably hate this but I wanted to give it a shot. First episode I thought was pretty good - not completely sold but good enough that I'm willing to keep watching. But yeah, second episode I think sold me. This kind of very Shonen style is one that I got really sick of in recent years but for whatever reason I feel like this show does it in a way that makes it not annoying to me. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but the comedic timing and even the really interesting art style really works for me (I like that some scenes will get a little stylized with different colored outlines and shading for example). Yeah, I think I'm in it for the whole season at this point.
I will say the pacing by far faster than the original, so far. Considering it covered episodes 2 and 3 and didn't feel like any of the main story was missing is amazing. And the fact they truncated Doctor Tofu's first appearance makes him more interesting. As much as I love the original anime, the scenes in Tofu's office weighed down the episode greatly. Again, it didn't feel like anything of importance to the main plot was missing.
I'm really hoping this does well enough to get the whole manga translated into anime episodes. Also hoping Maison Ikkoku gets a chance that it deserves in remake fashion. Because while I love Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku has a much stronger story and something Ranma 1/2 even in manga form did not have; an ending.
The original was probably the most popular Japanese animated show in the 90s. There was advertisements for it everywhere. It's the property that essentially mad Viz Media the giant it is today. The original one was pretty good but it has it's issues, the new one modernizes in just about every way without hurting it. The first 2 episodes are so good and I have a feeling the rest of the first cour is going to nail it.
One of the most beautiful things about the manga and the anime is that the harem isn’t just played for fanservice. Each of the romantic “options” genuinely and independently has their own thing going on so they don’t really wear out their welcome before it’s someone else’s turn at the spotlight again and we get to see an old favorite coming back for more hijinks. It’s also super funny that Akane, boy Ranma and girl Ranma each have their own “harems.” LOL. For the newbs, I’m calling them “options” and “harems,” because neither of the leads are oblivious to the romantic interests of their suitors. They just hate them all. LOL.
I find it impressive that even the excessive nudity somehow dosent feel fanservicy. I mean hell half the cast is so used to seeing naked Ranma they don't even react it. Ranmas female body is just like Ranmas male body most of the time, its just not always the expected gender.
Kuno, well, he is a little bit intense xd Maybe you feel Ranma modern because the structure and characters that Rumiko created in this and other mangas inspired other authors in their works, she wrote about things and relations that we are talking these years : )
This is based on a manga from one of the greats, rumiko Takahashi. Her best known series in the US is Inuyasha, but she’s been making big hit series in Japan since the late 70s. Starting in 1978 I don’t think she’s gone more than 1 year without at least working on one continuously published manga, and for seven years she was doing two (though one of them was a monthly series). Her current series, Mao, doesn’t have an anime yet, but that’s really the only one: Urusei Yatsura: 240 episodes (including 2022 remake) Maison Ikkoku: 96 episodes Ranma 1/2: 161 episodes (plus however many the remake ends up with) Inuyasha: 193 episodes (including Inuyasha Final Act) Rin-ne: 75 episodes Not even counting the OVAs and Movies based on her work, or the Inuyasha sequel Yasahime. Woman is a _legend_. Most manga artists would be lucky to have one such series.
If the biggest complaint someone has is that Ranma’s girl-form has no nipples showing, and that’s why they think it’s bad… They automatically surrender all credibility.
If you liked this, you're going to love what's coming after. I grew up on the original show as a kid and it always stuck with me. The whole romcom aspect gets so much complicated and messy as the shows goes on.
I was surprised that had Sugita-san, Gintoki-kun’s voice actor who also voices the Buddha hashira from Demon Slayer, the bangs hacker from My Hero Academia and the lizard man priest from Goblin Slayer, voice Kuno since the original from the 80s anime died. Not a bad choice😊😉👍
I mean the series is old enough to start the gimmick. Probably one of the oldest gender bender series. Also the characters are probably better than Urusei Yatsura since they are not like Ataru. The action looks great. Definitely feels like this was influential. There are some jokes that are older for sure. Also helps that MAPPA is working on it.
Great Review ! Speaking of missing something, you should watch Orb on the mouvements of the Earth by studio Madhouse, its such an interesting anime, would love to see your review on it.
There's a reason why this series was such a hit back then & it's all evident in this remake. It's later downfall & cancellation was simply filler plot hell that was nowhere as good as the mangaka's storylines.
i'm very excited for this i love this series it's hilarious it's by the same author as inuyasha trust me there are a LOT of higinks coming up we haven't even met some of the best characters yet next week is when we meet real best boy i think
the netflix version is good, love the art style, but do to them trying to pack 2 and a half episode into one the characters aren't as flushed out as the original and they change some of the conversation, so they don't add up
I think ranma had switched with uzumaki, cus some people hated the first episode of ranma, and loved the first episode of uzumaki, and the ranma get better yells about the second episode, and the second episode uzumaki, didn't go well🤣🤣 well nothing related, but yeah.
I love everything about this and it's even more accurate to the manga than the og anime but the only downside is the nip censorships, it just looks wrong

@@AHBrandonReviews - It's an okay list. It's not the best list. But it's my list. And I type it. I ain't using an MS Paint paintbrush to draw out names and days.
Ranma 1/2 created the harem genre.
うる星やつらの逆をやってるだよね。
うる星やつら:主人公(あたる)が、沢山の女の子を好きになる。
らんま1/2:主人公(らんま)が沢山の女の子から好かれる。
NGL ranma awakened me early as ecchi or degenerate manga enjoyer ever since mid school, eventhough I first encounter the anime in grade school as it is aired in my local TV channel. But having access to internet makes me binge the whole series on youtube with the old dub, and complete the manga.
I heard a bit of Ranma 1/2 a few years ago. And I am glad that I wait for the Anime remake!
I absolutely love the art direction and animation!
Akane and Ranma' dynamics is hilarious but cute as well 🤣😳
Kuno falling in love with Ranma Girl without realising she and boy Ranma are one person was wonderful 😂
Definitely my favourite side character for the moment!
Never seen the original but I’m really enjoying this!
Ranma is one classic gem of anime history modern anime wouldn't exist without it.
Kuno-senpai is a man of singular determination.
Best boy? Wait a week, my boy may get lost in the way but when he gets here hes going to steal the show
Sugita being Kuno's VA is such a win!!! 👌👌😌
the differences nibiki actually groped ranma in the first episode and tried to make it very clear to soun tendo that ranma was a girl but the groping part was cut short. do you see that old ladle lady who splashes water around her accuracy with hitting ranma is 100% garanteed and she is bloody blind, and lastly the only two voice actors that changed were Kuno aka your best boy and a character named Ukyo that won't be introduced until much much later in the original Ukyo appears in episode 40 so who knows where they will be introduced in the remake
The first anime had a lot of filler in the beginning and stretched out a lot of story lines that were relatively short in the manga. If they follow the manga faithfully, all the major fiances should be introduced first season.
@@Vannabee13 i see
It only gets crazier from here and we haven't gotten to most of the characters yet.
Ranma is my favorite remake done so far . It is crazy fun.
I watched the original anime series sometime in the mid 90s. So, I was happy to see this remake now using modern visuals.
Yeah.....She was definitely ahead of the times with this Romcom Series that came out during
either the 80's or 90's.
Especially one of the most popular character during the time, and both are argumentatively the most
annoyingly painfully sadistic in a fun way.
Can't wait to see how they are animating them,
Until next time,
Enjoy!!
Now we just need an Inuyasha remake and my childhood will be complete.
Not some Inuyasha spinoff or continuation, but the original series.
imo it really doesnt need it.
I wish more people were covering this show
Seriously everyone should give a watch! It’s a nice way to introduce a classic 💯
You dont get how big ranma was in latin america, to us aunt rumi never miss
No spoilers but the entire Kuno family is hilarious.
so crazy seeing Brandon praise my childhood favorite anime
Another classic getting a modern coat of paint. Makes you wonder which classic will be next.
Robot Chicken did a bit on this anime
The bit is why I binge watched the original series and basically became obsessed with it
I remember walking in to play D&D early 90's and everyone was watching this.Funny stuff. I love it and im in too!
Haha ohhhh yess I’m hoping you’re here for the long run on this series.
Yeah I already love the New Guy too 😂😂
Dude is the best haha
The VA for Ranma is the VA for Yuffie in Final Fantasy 7
(LIGHT SPOILER WARNING)
Kuno being like this is entirely hereditary. Eventually more of his family show up and they're all just as batshit.
I’m enjoying the series so far.
Kuno, well, he is a little bit intense xd
Maybe you feel Ranma modern because the structure and characters that Rumiko created in this and other mangas inspired other authors in their works, she wrote about things and relations that we are talking these years : )
This is based on a manga from one of the greats, rumiko Takahashi. Her best known series in the US is Inuyasha, but she’s been making big hit series in Japan since the late 70s. Starting in 1978 I don’t think she’s gone more than 1 year without at least working on one continuously published manga, and for seven years she was doing two (though one of them was a monthly series). Her current series, Mao, doesn’t have an anime yet, but that’s really the only one:
Urusei Yatsura: 240 episodes (including 2022 remake)
Maison Ikkoku: 96 episodes
Ranma 1/2: 161 episodes (plus however many the remake ends up with)
Inuyasha: 193 episodes (including Inuyasha Final Act)
Rin-ne: 75 episodes
Not even counting the OVAs and Movies based on her work, or the Inuyasha sequel Yasahime. Woman is a _legend_.
Most manga artists would be lucky to have one such series.
I loved the original, watched that one when it came out.... been watching anime for a while now.
If the biggest complaint someone has is that Ranma’s girl-form has no nipples showing, and that’s why they think it’s bad… They automatically surrender all credibility.
What a surprise. The anime to one of the best manga of all time is actually good. 🤯
Something I noticed with the new art style is the comic dots In the background
Please continue to cover Ranma
If you liked this, you're going to love what's coming after. I grew up on the original show as a kid and it always stuck with me. The whole romcom aspect gets so much complicated and messy as the shows goes on.
Great video, i rly love ranma 1/2
Don’t sleep on ORB
I was surprised that had Sugita-san, Gintoki-kun’s voice actor who also voices the Buddha hashira from Demon Slayer, the bangs hacker from My Hero Academia and the lizard man priest from Goblin Slayer, voice Kuno since the original from the 80s anime died. Not a bad choice😊😉👍
I actually enjoyed it. Would to see more episode reviews of this.
If you think Kuno is wild just wait ‘til you meet his sister
Wow Someone discovered Ranma in 2024
Of you liked Ranma remake
Then you will like Hell Teacher Nuber remake
I saw a few episodes of the original then stopped but I’m def gonna keep watching this one!
Mappa Animators couldn't take time off to go to therapy after JJK Season 2, so they worked on a Romcom instead
And if the leaks are to be believed, they're apparently almost done with Ranma 1/2 Season 2
@@timmythebirthdayboy8635really? That’s cool. I mean for us, probably not for them.
You need to check out Blue box Brandon, you are missing out on one of the best romances we will get in recent years. Hope you cover it soon.
Already seen the first episode waiting for it to end to binge
Wait until you meet Kuno's sister
Wait until you meet BestBoy's family.
You have to understand that without Ranma we wouldn't have other revised anime.
people say this about every old anime
I'm watching this as it comes out and always laughing 😂😂😂
It made me read the manga
I mean the series is old enough to start the gimmick. Probably one of the oldest gender bender series. Also the characters are probably better than Urusei Yatsura since they are not like Ataru. The action looks great. Definitely feels like this was influential. There are some jokes that are older for sure. Also helps that MAPPA is working on it.
This is a nice remake just like Uresai Yatsura
Are you watching Blue Box and Orb: On the Movements of the Earth ? If so would love to hear your thoughts about them.
Waiting for blue box to end ti binge orb hopefully will try soon
Great Review ! Speaking of missing something, you should watch Orb on the mouvements of the Earth by studio Madhouse, its such an interesting anime, would love to see your review on it.
There's a reason why this series was such a hit back then & it's all evident in this remake. It's later downfall & cancellation was simply filler plot hell that was nowhere as good as the mangaka's storylines.
i'm very excited for this
i love this series
it's hilarious
it's by the same author as inuyasha
trust me there are a LOT of higinks coming up
we haven't even met some of the best characters yet
next week is when we meet real best boy i think
Now let's get a Inuyasha remake.
Ranma is a classic ❤ Glad it’s getting flowers even now
the netflix version is good, love the art style, but do to them trying to pack 2 and a half episode into one the characters aren't as flushed out as the original and they change some of the conversation, so they don't add up
Some of the greatest idiots are in this show. Hype
Akane was my first waifu. Actually my first anime merch was a card with Akane on it
LES GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RANMA 1/2
I think ranma had switched with uzumaki, cus some people hated the first episode of ranma, and loved the first episode of uzumaki, and the ranma get better yells about the second episode, and the second episode uzumaki, didn't go well🤣🤣 well nothing related, but yeah.
I love everything about this and it's even more accurate to the manga than the og anime but the only downside is the nip censorships, it just looks wrong
most of the cast came back for the remake
Ranma is best girl 😅
Its good fun, and Murai no Koi (Murai in Love) is one i was suprised i would like, good rom-comedy
