Hi Tricia. Dr. C here. I've lost touch with most of the sisters in the video. Of the ones I know of, most still have Sisterlocks, but have cut their hair several times... like me!
Baby it's the walk for me! It's the walk for me 😍 Gone girl! I started my journey around 5 weeks ago and from this day forward, when I walk into a room, I'm stepping in like her! 😂
Thank goodness for Pinterest and all the cute modern sisterlock styles. Still a great video even with the dated hairstyles. It’s always nice to see the start of a revolution. I’ve been sisterlocked 3 years now and love them!
Regina, what branch are you in? Did you get them? I'm in the military and I have been researching and reached out to a few consultants! I'm ready to get them!!
Will there be an updated video in the future, I'd love to see that with a new styles and colors we are doing with our locs these days.....sisterlocked almost 5 years strong!!!!
I was wondering the same thing about an updated video. I had my consultation a few weeks ago and was kind of put off by how outdated the video was ... I wanted to see something more current, although I'm sure the majority of the info is still relevant ... I guess the representation could've been better, but it isn't preventing me from getting mine installed on 28 March thank you very much! lol It would be nice to see the ladies with varying stages & lengths of locs.
The best of the best decisions I ever made getting my sisterloc hair journey! It has been an amazing thing my whole life💜 And my amazing Loctician Rachel Jones has put so much love into me and my hair. I would have not fallen with my locs if not for her love she showed me and my hair.🥰💜💋
I love this video, i just got mine installed. took 12 hours per day over a period of 3 days. Im feeling pretty insecure right now but im so excited to see how itll look in 2 week, 2 months, 2 years! thank you Dr Cornwell for paving the way
I thought this was made in the early 90s since sister locs were founded in 93' so maybe that's why the video resembles the 80s...but anyway i still miss the 90s even if this video wasn't filmed then 🤷🏾♀️
Dear Dr Cornwell Greetings from Trinidad & Tobago....just want to thank you & express my deep appreciation for your creation. This is month 8 since establishing Sisterlocks and its the best decision ever. I enjoy the freedom and versatility and I hope to meet you some day....maybe when I come to learn how to retighten my own Sisterlocks:) Blessings & warm regards Angela
I knew from the moment that I saw the logo on my sisterlocks starter shampoo that the lady in the logo on the bottle looked sooo Nineties with those big shoulder pads and baggy pants suit with big jacket. They haven't updated the logo since this video was published. My sisterlocks are 2 weeks old and I am loving them! Thank you Dr. Corwall. Update that logo though. lol
I agree with everything except the lady who disrespected traditional locs. This might need to be updated. I love how empowering it is for that time period. Times have definitely changed
I'm getting sisterlocks this year. I've been waiting since 2006 when I was a freshmen in college. I am so ready! I wish I didn't have to travel out of state but I know it will be worth it! I am so excited!
I don't know why RUclips decided 2019 was the year to show this to me, but I appreciate this hair history. Loose natural 10+ years, and yes I watched this whole video. 😂
I met JoAnn at a small natural hair event around 1993/1994 before anyone knew what sister locs were. Very personable lady. I got sisterlocs in 1998 and would often get stopped in public by black women curious as to what I was wearing. It was the only natural style that my mother liked. I have since cut them but am thinking about going back to them.
I found this video to be educational and informative. I appreciate a pioneer as the founder. I'm going for a consultation Thurs. Thanks for sharing and improving how we can love our own hair.
Thank You! I appreciate your knowledge your motivation and endurance. I'm sure it wasn't easy trying to break through the barriers of the mind when it came to wearing natural hair and especially 'lock' when you first introduced this hair styling system to woman of color. I have had my hair Sisterlocked for 5.5 years and I love it. I had no idea the locks could be even smaller than the ones I have now...I heard you say 'Microlocks'. As far as Styling is concerned, I've noticed that the world of lock wearers frown upon locked hair which has been curled using a heating element/tool i.e. curling irons. There are other 'unbranded' locks on RUclips and in the world that uses interlocking as a technique and I often wonder if the 'unbranded' styles are trying to compete with your patented system because if so, they can't top us!
In response to Sisterlocks, I think interlocking and all the various 'unbranded' locks arose. Sisterlocks is well thought out and It will be difficult to improve in terms of layout grid and sizing. Dr. Cornwell behaved like a true academic and worked it out! I am happily locked for 19 years! An updated video would be lovely but.......... content is still spot on!
Ok so I've had my Sisterlocks for 3 yrs now and this is the first time that I've ever seen this video.... (does this mean that I do not have Sisterlocks @ Discernaoftruth and Dr C?).... (Smile). lol But seriously, I wish that I had watched this video before I had mine installed! Don't get me wrong, my loctician gave me a thorough consultation, answered all of my questions and showed me a good video, in fact I luuuurve my locks and get stopped allllll of the time. Coming from curly perms and relaxers, then 16 yrs of weave and 'finally' being able to embrace my natural hair is so liberating. The feeling is indescribable. I would 100% recommend Sisterlocks to anybody, without a doubt. *Thumbs up.
@@ah-ss7he So sorry, only just seeing your question after 4 years. I Wash every 2 - 3 weeks. Do a hot treatment approx every month. Re-tighten the re-growth every 6 weeks. Very easy to maintain.
Hello Portia. One of the back issues of our Sisterlocks Lifestyle Journal is a "Stylebook." Its the one with the curly red head of hair on the cover. You'll find it in our shopping cart. We plan to publish a second one this year to show off all of the styling that will be done at our Homecoming in July. Dr. C
I'm still taking mine out a yr later... dont go to anyone that doesn't have solid online reviews, even if they have nice locks and are registered on the SL site. Save your time, hair and money.
Ann Johnson do more research. That shit can cost as much as $600.00 or more depending on the loctitian. After that, the retightening session can be as much as $300 every 3-4 weeks. If you haven't already had them installed, I'd strongly advise you to DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST.
Dr Cornwells Niece and at least one sister is in this vid. This is an old vid which was posted in 2014, is a classic, and hope they don't remove it. There are other updated vids online. I lov my SL's. Wish I got them installed yrs ago, but I'm only 4mo's in.
LOL 😂 GREAT 👍🏿 VIDEO. BUT THE FOREVER YOUNG ROD STEWARD , and PEGGY BUNDY HAIRDO’s Are Funny y’all ( shout out to Tina Turner for wearing that wig hairstyle also)! I watched this vid after my wife went to her consult! One LOVE y’all, from Compton Ca!
Hi. Getting my consult next week . How much money was it back then to install sister locks? And do you know about the prices they charge now? Do you agree with the prices today. 600 buck and up?
Would be nice to see the original cast with their sisterlocks now.
Yes, it would. That would be an awesome sight to see!
Hi Tricia. Dr. C here. I've lost touch with most of the sisters in the video. Of the ones I know of, most still have Sisterlocks, but have cut their hair several times... like me!
Thanks for responding. Any updated video in the making?
So I'm nosy and found most of them on Facebook. Lol... it's like the reunion center of the world.
Yes, for sure!!
Baby it's the walk for me! It's the walk for me 😍 Gone girl! I started my journey around 5 weeks ago and from this day forward, when I walk into a room, I'm stepping in like her! 😂

As a "loose" natural, I am becoming more fascinated by the sisterlocks. It looks to be very versatile due to the type of locs. Great vid!

Terrika H. but now they are allowed and I'm getting them 🤗
Regina, what branch are you in? Did you get them? I'm in the military and I have been researching and reached out to a few consultants! I'm ready to get them!!

They need to update this video. I've been Sisterloced since 2008. It was old then. I think its from the 90's pre dial up Internet.

Where are these pioneer ladies today?
Ha I love this video! So funny! I'm glad I'm a part of the sisterhood!!! :) I feel like we have our own sorority!

Informative video. I am 12 days post sister locks installation loving my sisterlocks. This video is older yes however it answers today’s questions
Getting my Sisterlocks installed was the best decision I made for my hair. #5yrs and still counting
I agree with everything except the lady who disrespected traditional locs. This might need to be updated. I love how empowering it is for that time period. Times have definitely changed
Thank you ladies wherever you are! Saving this little piece of hair history
Watching this is like watching a bunch of people in the 80s buy gold at $700 ounce while I sit here and sulk that the current price is now $1500.
If you have Sisterlocks, and you haven't seen this video, YOU DON'T HAVE SISTERLOCKS! Hahaha!!!! I'm only kidding :)
So True ... and I'm NOT kidding! (smile) - Dr. C

Please update this video. The disparaging remarks about locs at 15:23 were disturbing.
Bethany McGowan
i looove this vintage video, EXCEPT that part.

Bethany McGowan exactly. Trashy as hell.

Get them!
Great video - greater invention - thanks for the vision Dr C!!! Getting my next January and cant wait!
Sis is struttin’ honey 😜
Sisterlocks has come a long way.
Is it just me or did Sisterlocks get larger over time? Many of these ladies appear to have loose hair because theirs are so small.
Most of them looked to have started with permed tips so I think that's why theirs looked like that
I swear I was looking at some of them like "she has sister locks???" Lol I was confused...i thought they DID have loose hair.
Shawnee Reed prob bc they started on relaxed hair
You’re right. Originally there were four sized. Micro, small, medium and large. At some point the Sisterlocks organization stopped doing micros.
I'm a brother so I have brotherlocks. Est. 04/20/2015. I'm loving the journey. Thank you Dr. Cornwell!
Is the retightening tedious and expensive?
@@ah-ss7he Not tedious at all if your loctician is efficient. Its take about 2-2 1/2 hours for me. It's $100 every 6 weeks for a re-tight.
Love my sisterlocks, five years and counting, I've cut them twice-3 inches each time. I would love to see more styling tips.
