    Man! Thank you! I used this video to get ready to do a set of CV AT-12 that I have had sitting in storage since 2006! I've never re-coned a set of speakers before. Job went great, they sound awesome!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

    Thank you, Scott I watched the whole thing and will do it again, that was an extraordinary video. It is not as easy as someone might think. There are a lot of intricate details that only experience would make perfect. I’ve had multiple speakers in the past that could have been saved but I had no idea that you could recone a speaker. When you talked about it in one of your other videos, I was intrigued. This was a great video that might encourage others to repair their speakers, rather than throw them away.

    Wondering what accounts for the difference in shape between the new and original cones.

    • @ScottGrammer
      @ScottGrammer  10 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure there is a difference in shape, but it is an aftermarket recone kit, so there may be slight differences beyond the length of the voice coil. I did hear from the owner after he reinstalled the woofers and he was quite happy with the results.

    19:25 Chinese? translated message mentions leaving voice coil 1/4" "ABOUT" the top plate when intending to write "ABOVE". This wouldn't leave me with a great deal of confidence either. Much nicer epoxy application than I have seen on other channels.

    Is there a way to save and reuse the cone? My cv d8 cones are gray. All I see are black cone replacements

    • @ScottGrammer
      @ScottGrammer  2 месяца назад

      I suppose it might be possible, if the recone kit is like the one I used, where the voice coil is not attached to the cone out of the box. One could remove the old voice coil from the original cone, refoam that cone, and then use it instead of the supplied cone. You would need to remove and replace the dust dome so you can use shims, as shown in the video. Then just replace the dust dome (or re-use the original), and you're off and running.

    SO BASICALLY YOU CAN INSTALL A DIFFERENT BRAND CONE KITS RIGHT? AND i GOT SOME toa 15" SPEAKERS i WANT TO UPGRADE CAN i DO IT ON THESE THE ONE i GOT?

    • @ScottGrammer
      @ScottGrammer  7 месяцев назад +1

      Well, yes and no. I reconed this driver with a recone kit made just for it by Simply Speakers, a company that makes nothing but recone kits and refoam kits for literally hundreds of different drivers. For your TOA speakers, I would check with www.simplyspeakers.com/ , or www.midwestspeakerrepair.com/ to see if they have a recone kit you can use.
      There were RARE cases where a recone kit made by one speaker company would fit the frame of a speaker made by another speaker company. For instance, people used to repair the woofers in their Pioneer HPM150's by using a particular JBL recone kit that is no longer available. But that's not too surprising, as Pioneer hired a JBL design engineer to design the HPM speaker series.

    the 154w dont have plastik rings. they have cotton with some leather look on top.
    and why do you not glue the underside of the spider first ? and then glue the topside when you put on the cone ?
    and you have the wrong size dustcap for 154w.

    • @ScottGrammer
      @ScottGrammer  9 месяцев назад +1

      1. You are correct about the plastic rings. When the woofers were brought to me, the surrounds and gaskets had already been removed, and I simply mis-spoke regarding the plastic rings, which many CV woofers have.
      2. Gluing the underside of the spider is how some folks do it, I simply glue the topside and drive the glue into the spider material so that it soaks the entire thickness of the spider at the glue joint. Still, I might give that a try on my next recone job. If it works for me, I'll probably do it that way from now on. Never too old to learn.
      3. The recone kit was provided by the client, and that was the dustcap that came with it. I mentioned to the client that the dustcap was bigger than what I thought it should be, and I also told him that I had discovered that the original cone had had the dustcap replaced with a larger one. He was not concerned about it. I got a text from him a couple of weeks after he picked up the drivers, and he said he had been "rocking out" with them, and was quite happy.
      I checked out your channel. Man, you are apparently the Cerwin-Vega fan of all time! I've subscribed, and I will be checking out your videos. Maybe I can learn something. Thanks for your comment!
