Nice job on the review. Wondering if the bikes sheds' heat better than the old version or does the rider still get cooked? It's really the reason I still prefer the GS. Admittedly the KTM's 160 ponies are intoxicating.

I traded a Pan American for the 1290S and although the H-D attempt was stunning, sadly the reliability wasn't - so far during 2022 its been faultless, loads of grunt from the high torque figure offering relaxed cruising or quick safe overtaking, handling is amazing due to the low down weight of the triple fuel tank setup. Only one thing that is poor is the wobbling and noise of the windshield when riding rougher roads. Don't bother with the KTM GPS holder, it makes the aforementioned wobbling worse, get a fixed Touratech one. All in all a good effort and wonderful ride....
How is the 1290 for on highway long distance touring (like 500 - 900 kms per days)? seat comfort? vibrations? how do you feel coming off the bike after a long ride on the highway? I am looking at a 2023 model for the spring. I sat on one yesterday in the showroom and I do like it.
@@danman5857 Its brilliant Dan, best bike ive ever owned and Ive done more miles on this than any other bike ive owned bar 24/7 work bikes. There is so minimal vibration its not noticeable. The Mitas tyres are best swopped for Michelin Road 6 for better front end feel in the cold and wet, in the dry they are good when warm. I fitted the ERGO heated riders seat as an extra £180!, but well worth it - ive done a 400 miler with two stops and as long as you dont sit like a sack of potatoes on the seat permanently on motorways its OK. Keep shifting weight etc and its as comfortable as most bikes. Its not in the BMW 1250GS league for comfort over huge distances, but VERY close. A lot more comfortable than Ducati Multistradas! Hire one or something like it, see what you think? Any bike will only go as fast as you let it! Small bike all kill you if you're stupid 🤔 second thoughts, could be a handful, just take it steady 👍🏻
Don't buy brand new bike as your first bike! And definitely not a 500+ lb bike! Get yourself a used bike of middle displacement or lower. You will be dropping it. Especially if you are going off pavement. Gain experience, then start working toward your dream bike. If you're serious about off-road, then consider getting a used dual-sport/Enduro bike rather than an adventure bike. With the money you save, take off-road (& on road) riding courses. Money much better spent.
In most places in the world, filtering through traffic is not legal, so adaptive cruise control is a more valuable safety feature. Staying away from other vehicles is the best safety feature, but we can't always do that in urban environments. Great review!
I test rode both bikes at the ABR Festival this weekend. I absolutely loved the KTM and am considering buying one. I only rode the Pan America off-road, and it was great. Despite its weight, it was easy to ride the trail, with plenty of torque on-tap.
@@SteveSeadog I bought the HD Pan America and love love love it. I’ve riden since I was 5 yo . Okay, great review but we need the big question answered... Who’s the Daddy?! Put the Multi V4S, KTM 1290 S and the Bimmer GSA together and who comes out on top? That’s all anyone ants to know... lastly, any sway you have with Triumph to release its new Tiger 1200 would be greatly appreciated. I’m a Triumph fan but there is nothing on the release and I suspect its because of the radar and maybe some screen updates they are playing catch-up on?... But I have money burning a whole in my pocket and with supply chain being what it is I may end up taking the first I can lay my hands on... 😎
And the Pan America! I'm making enquiries on both that and the Multi V4. As for the Tiger 1200 I have absolutely no news or even dates in the diary for launches or whatever. Must be some sort of delay as it's been spied ages ago...
Tried the PA, nice try by the Harley folks but not a real option to compare with the big names above. Triumph Tiger is stalled for some reason but if they shove in the new Speed Triple engine and give it a single sided swing arm option (sport) I think it would do very well against this competition (potentially..). It’s interesting, I like what KTM have done, you want a road going touring style adventure bike you go with the S, you want a true off road adventure you go with the R. I believe Ducati get it as they are building a road going Pikes Peak version of the M-V4S with a single swing arm and 17” front wheel. I think Triumph could do just the same (or is that just wishful thinking on my part...)
KTM's tagline says world got smaller, yet they completely ignore smaller and shorter build riders. Some half assed KTM product planner thinks shorter people shouldn't be riding ADV bikes and just full on power on and off road capabilities are more important. Kudos to BMW, Triumph and now Harley making ADVs accessible to shorties. Dont tell me we can learn riding taller bikes, yes if I can take it off the stand, I will ride. But you ride a motorcycle that inspires confidence. The KTM doesn't.
@@brucecutts8841 If you take value /cost into account, the ktm wins. So if reviewers are interested in the price, the ktm is a better buy. But the v4s is the better bike, no question. It's like Toyota vs Porsche. I'd rather pay for the Toyota, but own the Porsche.
@@stevenkelby2169 VFM is of course a factor but that aside the KTM was my pick - just a more rewarding / fun / angry bike to ride but then I'm a sucker for a V twin!
OMG, yet another review yammering on endlessly about the cruise control. Wow. It is nice, glad it has it. But that is about 1 percent of the reason this bike is of interest. And 80 percent of your review words.
KTM Super Adventure sucks! In 2021, among many other bikes, I thoroughly tested Ducati Multistrada V4 S and new KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, including taking them both to their top speeds, and a lot of high speed riding. Multistrada V4 is AWESOME: it's fast, very stable and maneuverable at any speeds, with great handling, comfortable, versatile, you name it. 1290 SA S, on the other hand, is completely the opposite. In short, 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is uncomfortable: bad sitting position with cramped legs, harsh seat, engine vibrations at any rpm, bad screen with poor wind protection and a lot of buffeting. Super Adventure is slow: it's ~20 km/h slower than it's direct competitor Multistrada V4 on the top speed, also KTM really starves on power above 200 km/h. But hands down the worst feature of this bike is how horribly unstable it is above 200 km/h - it's wobbles permanently. And that's in the bone stock form without any boxes - so I'm afraid to even think about how badly KTM will wobble with boxes. Yes, besides everything else, I also covered ~ 72 km in ~ 20 and a half minutes on the 1290 SA S (I'll release the footage later), but that's all thanks to my riding skills and experience. I was permanently struggling with KTM through the entire ride. It's a widow maker bike for sure - on this bike anyone can get killed at any moment because of the quirks of Super Adventure. This bike also has it's strong sides like awesome suspensions, unbelievably smooth and precise gearbox, and good dashboard. But downsides (mentioned above) of this bike outweighs it's upsides by many times. That's why KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is really bad bike overall. It's good for nothing. Unlike the Ducati Multistrada V4 - which is good for almost everything. P.S. Just for clarification: I tested not one but two 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. Took the bikes from different dealers at different days. And they both behaved identical. So don't even try saying something inline with: "Hurr-durr, should've fix the bike before testing" - both bikes had no mechanical issues at all, and both was working as intended by manufacturer. All the riding issues mentioned above is caused solely by the design and engineering flaws of the Super Adventure - not something else.

Really enjoy your video, yet most of your videos do not include the engine sound. Other than that, very well done!!
Please test ride the bmw s1000xr🙏
KTM's tagline says world got smaller, yet they completely ignore smaller and shorter build riders. Some half assed KTM product planner thinks shorter people shouldn't be riding ADV bikes and just full on power on and off road capabilities are more important. Kudos to BMW, Triumph and now Harley making ADVs accessible to shorties.
Dont tell me we can learn riding taller bikes, yes if I can take it off the stand, I will ride. But you ride a motorcycle that inspires confidence. The KTM doesn't.
Hey BOB.. Are you behind the account "Moto sportive" also or did he STEAL your video and just edited you out of it?
Not me. Got a link?

If money is no option then this or 1250gs ....?
Multistrada v4.
But if you must choose between this and the gs, this is a lot more fun.
I've ridden all 3.
@@stevenkelby2169 most reviewers seem to prefer the KTM over the V4s and its massively expensive
@@brucecutts8841 Can't argue with that! You've gotta go with your heart. Awesome bike, enjoy it! 🍻
Far better value than BIMMER
Wana know your thoughts on the new tracer 9 gt
Just waiting for my local dealer to get their demo in - shouldn't be long. I've got the MT-09 later this week so that should give me some idea!
@@motobob looking forward for your review 👍👍👍
When are you going to review the new Sinnis Terrain T125?
Probably won't as it's a fairly minor update and I'm very tight on time at the moment.
Ktm or duck? I just cant decide?
Heard a lot of dramas with the electronics in this bike same as the last version.
Its what Batman would drive...its that crazy and scary.
All sounds positive but the warranty isn't
Great value but from the front...
OMG, yet another review yammering on endlessly about the cruise control. Wow. It is nice, glad it has it. But that is about 1 percent of the reason this bike is of interest. And 80 percent of your review words.
And crucially, it isn't have a bmw sticker on it!
I was trying to watch my commercials, but someone put a motorcycle review in between every so often.
Very nice CFmoto
A Multi V4 is a cool 10k more expensive than 1290 SAS...😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕
BRO MY DREEM BIKE
Great bike I’m sure, just don’t dig the looks
Who are the 21 guys who dislike the video tell me why
It may be the greatest bike ever ...but it looks pretty average and not in a good way
Another point, 890 looks fking ugly! 1290 all the way
Nice legs, shame about the face.
