  • Areca Palm Hedge Newly Planted vs Fully Mature. Here is what to expect when you plant an Areca Palm privacy hedge- we planted 20-25 gallon palms that were 5'-7' tall when planted. We also have a mature 20 year old Areca Palm hedge for comparison. These are planted in USDA Hardiness Zone 10a, Central Florida. Enjoy!

    No better palm for hedging in Florida in my opinion. Absolutely stunning.

    Thanks for the video! We are looking to plant a hedge on our property. Looks like this video was about 8 months ago, how is the growth on the new ones you planted?

      They are growing great! I have already noticed mature stalks growing out of them right now, not sure they will get full height on this round, but they are definitely growing well! We can’t recommend these beautiful palms enough! We just love them and the sound they make from a breeze is so nice! Thanks for watching!

      @@IslandsnHighlands awesome! Thanks for the reply. We have some at our current place but they were mature when we got here, so it’s very helpful to hear about your experience with them from the potted stage. We are closing escrow this week on our new property and probably going this route for privacy. Lots of these here on Maui. Aloha and thanks again for the video!

      We just love Areka Palms! If you can get your hands on decent sized ones you can basically have an instant 8 ft living fence

    Beautiful. But it looks like a snake haven. Is there a hedge that doesn't attract snakes?

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  3 месяца назад

      No they dont attract snakes. I find more snakes in our sea grape and Schefflera hedges...

      @@IslandsnHighlands I was going to use Japanese fern tree because it forms a very good hedge naturally and it's not common in our area and usually grows 15-20ft tall but we live in Puerto Rico and I believe it will be an unstable privacy near the road with all the storms we get , still there is info telling is tolerant of hurricanes

    I had some near a
    Fence behind our pool and the landscaping and HOA removed them. They did say they do
    Poorly in Florida, but they were very pretty.
    I might replant closer to the enclosure. But do you know how much each one cost you?

      I think we purchased 30 gallon Arekas for $175 and $140 each. Since we had so many to plant we had to collect from 2 different nurseries. I believe we also had to pay for delivery on them too which added another couple hundred…but I believe Brent planted 70 Palms. We haven’t had any problems growing in central Florida zone 10a. Make sure you plant far enough away from your patio because they clump pretty big

      Are they not allowed to plant in your community or you planted them in common area where you were not supposed to? I'm thinking of planting these right by the screen on the patio for privacy. I have no idea if HOA allowed. My house is still in construction.

    • @IslandsnHighlands
      @IslandsnHighlands  Год назад +1

      Yes as much as possible to get them full height quicker-the new house is being started next door and Brent goes out and hand waters them in the regular
