    Great video! I love my Areca palms !! I have about a 80 foot long line of them planted in my backyard as a natural privacy fence. They are all over 20 feet tall and shelter lots of wild birds. Such an easy plant to grow here near Ft. Myers

      Awesome, Great idea, but how do you deal with all that trimming and palm seeds?

    • @thuffman44
      @thuffman44 8 лет назад +1

      I just let them grow with no maintenance. They are all spaced about 4 foot apart, so it forms a really nice wall of green, LOL

      I like it, an impenetrable wall of palm goodness!

    Where can o find where you de-clumped-cut these back? This was the first suggested when I searched for cutting back areca palms. But this doesnt show that. I'd love to see your video.

      @@EatYourBackyard you have a nice "jungle" there. I love the bamboo bridge. As I recall my childhood days living in FL, you just stick something in the ground and it grows.

    Great video! Mine's dying from the recent frost. I'm in zone 9b. If I cut one of the dead trunks, will new leaves grow out of them?

    Does trimming the bottom or older fronds help the tree grow taller faster? Thanks

    • @EatYourBackyard
      @EatYourBackyard  2 года назад +2

      I think it may slow it down as you remove vigor by removing its way of getting energy.

    Question. I have an areca Palm as well…. But the seeds that it bears are very small. Seems like those areca Seeds that sprout into “areca grass” as you call it are much larger than the seeds that I have. Any idea why my arecas don’t give me any viable seeds?? Thanks.

    • @EatYourBackyard
      @EatYourBackyard  Год назад

      To grow them, you don't actually plant them, they lay on top of the soil to sprout (like a coconut). Don't forget to check out and sub to my Original Music Channel called JediJingleMaker where I post a new song each weekend. Farah, sure, send it to my email on the channel "about" tab. That is actually the first request like that, maybe I will offer it to help folks, take a look at the photo, could also make a video response to follow up showing the pic. Looking forward to getting the email.

      How do you separate and divide the baby pups from mother plant to replant in a pot? My friend has one that is 25 feet tall with a pretty thick clump and he’s never seen seeds and I don’t see those small little plantlets around the clump if it ever did seed. He said it’s over 20 years old

    Do all palms make suckers after cutting them down??

    • @EatYourBackyard
      @EatYourBackyard  8 лет назад +2

      No, only clumping palms like the Areca will do that. The Areca is very hardy in the right conditions though and really does well with trimming. I will be publishing part 2 tonight so everyone can see what it looks like after the post stubbling phase.
