Good seeing the many ways GOD is blessing the labors of your hands. We'll all keep praying that GOD will bless you above and beyond you dreams... I enjoy watching young people (such as yourself) that are willing to work hard with their hands using the talents GOD has blessed y'all with... Much love and prayers... BBE..
Nathan, I was just trying to remember when I followed your channel first. Not sure exactly but I do recall when I suffered my head injury in 2019 that your channel hepled me rehabilitate. R and R was the only fix for it. Your videos helped me to relax and get through the bad days. Reason i was thinking about it is I had a relapse and again your videos are helping me. 👍
I think the new building is a great addition to your business & the edger will make things flow so much faster Looks like you might be in the market for a new dust collector too Good luck on getting everything put in line for your dreams
If you are up in the air about concrete under the saw. You can go the turf and block route. Concrete blocks to spread out the load so it stays where you place it and not try and sink and everywhere else under, turf like used football field turf. Stuff keeps the dust down which being enclosed will kill off the grass and could be a bit muddy, it would be soft under the foot as well. Should be easy enough to vacuum up any chips and sawdust off of it and fairly low maintenance. It also won't be rubber mats and if I remember correctly, you can get the turf stuff in colors other than green like black if you wanted.
The best forgiving floor for a barn in my opinion for what it is worth. If you have the useless soil many of us have, Red Clay . Grind it very fine and add I bag of portland for every 15 - 20 square feet. Grind I t again with a tractor & three point hitch garden tiller. Grind it again. Lightly wet it and pack the hell out of it and stay off of it. For a few days. Very tough but fixable if you accidentlly mess up a section.. One of the best parts is the clay for me anyway is free...
Excellent edger, now all it needs is a laser on the movable blade. It doesn't need to have a laser but Mark Galicic got one for his edger and it's the icing on the cake IMO.
Nathan I think your future self will be grateful for using the new barn with the sawmill so you can see how you like things arranged. That was some solid advice.
Got my shirts and man I look snazzy! Got one for my wife too so she isn't jealous when I go out looking that good! Congrats on getting that new machine. The edger looks great and will add a new and valuable dimension to your output Nathan. And those biscuits made me hungry!
I am trying to get Nathan to let us all send in pictures of ourselves wearing our proud new barn-raisin T's from all over the world to show our support, I think it would be fun to see so many of these T's across the globe and build our team spirit more
I've driven by Wood Mizer in Batesville. I saw a lot of sawmills outside. Because of your videos, I knew what I was seeing. It's rather hard to catch at 70 mph.
I've been by the Wood Mizer plant There in Batesville In. hundreds of times. I drove for a company that hauls parts for Cummins Engine to and from Columbus In. I would sometimes come back home from there with plenty of room in my trailer and often thought I should stop and grab me a mill. Many years ago my father had one and I really liked running it. I'm retired now and have thought about getting one and do a little custom sawing just to keep busy. Edger will be a great addition for you, looking for more video's on it. Have a good day.
What a great video. So glad you got the edger. Also I like the way you are laid back, calm cool and collected, as they say. It is 😊going to be fun to watch your building develop. One more comment, I don’t have saw mill but your work ethic, knowledge , willingness to learn, your honesty inspires me to follow you in my endeavors as a maker. Many times I say to myself ,when in the shop, “what would Nathan do?”
One question. “Who got the 3rd bacon biscuit ?” Just kidding congratulations on the new addition to the OTW equipment stable. Hope you found a good Yanmar filter supplier you’re gonna be needing to buy bulk filters for sure. What a blessing to have your dad come along.
Great video as usual, loved the edger for its simplicity and design features, one thing though, it took me a couple of moments to get a handle on your food terminology. Here in New Zealand your “Biscuit” is known as a “Bun” or “Bread Roll”, what you folk call “Cookies” we call “Biscuits”, I’m pretty sure we are both on the same page with “Cake” though.😂. Keep those episodes coming my friend, I look forward to them with anticipation.
When I used to drive truck thru Tennessee I used to stop and get bacon biscuits at this place (really good). I don’t know if it was the same place but they were good. I’m glad you have your Dad going with you. I used to go places with my Dad when he was still here. We need to enjoy them while we can. Love that edger you went and picked up. It works great! Cool video. Love your new barn too! 👍❤️
Hello Nathan, something else to consider for use on concrete or natural ground would be horse stall mats. Their 3/4" in. (0.750" in.) thick and come in sizes from 2' ft. X 2' ft. up to 12' ft. x 12' ft. Also the come with interlocking or non-interlocking. Just some food for thought.
Back in the late 80's early 90's we had a WM edger where the in - feed, out-feed rollers were part of the trailer. you didn't have to remove the back rollers to move it around . It was great for moving from job site to job site when we went mobile..
Anti-fatigue mats are ok but I like building wood pallet type mats. Wood has a good spring to it, its what machinists put around their machines since chips can fall through. So if you do concrete build some flat wood mats with a little gap in them, the dust can fall through and you can blow it out. Or just pick up the mats every now and then to clean under. But its like a nice wood floor in a house, but with more spring.
New Edger to complete your sawmill production. Excellent. The suggestion to use the sawmill in location before permanent location is also an excellent idea. I believe you will want it on the end of the pole barn for easier access. Like your recommendation in buying tractors, you will need more than you think. It won't be long before you will want to add the 14' lean structure on the other side also. You always need more room than you think. Keep the dirt floor for now for comfort. Divert the rainfall away from inside the building.
You could do like Smokey Mountain Outpost did with his new woodmizer. He didn't concrete the whole thing just where the feet are. Sorry if that doesn't make sense fighting covid and strep throat
That was a really good look at the new edger machine by WOODMIZER. You'll give it a good work out . Thanks for sharing with us Nathan. Keep up the good videos and the fun you all have around there. Fred.
Doggonit Nathan! I saw those Cafe 93 biscuits and now I want one. I love biscuits. Next time you come up my way here is in sleepy Nelson Country, Virginia, why don't you bring me a few. Love you videos pal. Or I could meet you at I81 in Staunton. Stay safe and try to stay cool.
I use pallet forks and two lifting straps to remove conveyor. Much easier and safer. Hitting the engine with the conveyor is a bad day. I also put a tarp under the machine for the sawdust to fall on. Just pull it out when full, makes clean up fast and easy.
Maybe make concrete pads for where the machinery will be when you decide how ya want it set up, leaving the ground for you to walk on. Or pour the pad you originally thought of and put rubber matting where you will be walking. Just a thought for ya. Love that ya got that edger, cant wait to see it in action. Like ya said, that's gonna be a game changer for ya.
I had the edger pegged - you have been talking about it for years. Looks good Nathan. Looking forward to seeing you use the edger in production mode. Stay safe.
Amazing! I learned so much from watching this video. It's fascinating to watch the entire sawmilling process. The video quality is superb. Looking forward to your upcoming videos. Keep producing such amazing content!
Instead of concrete, you may want to consider decomposed granite (with stabilizer). Permeable so no puddles, softer to walk on than concrete, and I find it much more stable than gravel. Packs down well. Its what I use for my out door "visiting area". Instead of a wood deck or similar, I used stabilized DG on which I have my BBQ, firepit, picknic table, and benches. Not as easy to clean as concrete but low power on the leaf blower keeps most of the debris off. In my case, using it out in the weather, I typically have to do some minor "repairs" (bring in a small trailer load and spread) every two or three years. Under cover like you have I would think you'd likely get more like 4-5 years would be my guess. Keeps weeds away, not as hard but still firm enough to be comfortable to walk on, and easy to maintain. Just a thought.
Greetings again from England. Early days but the new building is beginning to take shape but still a lot of work for you yet. Dont forget plan well and plenty of coffee.
If you do do decide to use gravel as a floor material you may want to get something like the Green driveway system to help keep the gravel in place. It is a grid pattern that you put down on a level surface then put the gravel into the grid and it helps keep it in place and allows you to use less gravel and maintain a more level surface.
One thing you might consider since that is a flip off guide fence, laser sights. One can be fixed where the fence would be and the other can be tied to the dial and move with the saw. The one that moves would be the one to get first but thats a speed thing and ease of use for both so if you are not too tied on time then you don't need them.
You must be tickled to death with that edger Nathan! What a well engineered machine! Well, that’s Wood Miser for ya! Thanks Much and Many Blessings to All you Family and a Special shout out for your Dad! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
That's a nice new machine. Could you please describe in more detail how you set up for two blade edging. I couldn't visualize how the right edge was set or is it a fixed distance? Looking forward to the tshirt.
Thats just like the older bellsaw planer shaper used to be, Woodmasters improved the desined by adding 2 routers Sander and shaper. Congrats on the new edger! Here is New England, the new public tennis courts have "soft" asphalt courts. It actually feels flexible when you walk on it. That might be an option that would be easy on the feet and legs and easy to keep clean. Dave
thats something you got to have..i can feel that ice cold air coming in there this winter...you got a lot to do there..i guess you will have to bring the sawdust vac down to,.well a little time it will all work,,
You could add a hose swivel that is what I had to do my fuel hose on my transfer tank it fixed the kinking issues and will increase the life of ur hose u can buy one at tractor supply

You are right that walking on dirty is a lot easier on the feet than walking on concrete. But the feet on the Wood Mizer saw mills are too small a foot print for most soils. The feet just pound into the ground as you turn logs and the mills do not stay level. Northwest Sawyer on RUclips showed in one of his videos putting 12x12x2 boards under the feet.
Wow I had no idea. Anyways it's Chris, one of The twins, the good one, well kidding I'm probably the bad one at one time but I'm so glad to see u all doing this. I had no idea. Love u guys.
A good alternative to concrete would be ag lime, if you have a bulk source to get it locally. You’d have to cut the topsoil off then fill with lime. If you water it while you compact the lime it packs very firm but wouldn’t be hard on your feet and back like concrete, and if much more smooth and easier to walk on than stone.
Hey, I like that hat wish they would give them out at the Wood Working Shows, I have seen your machine but not with all the bells on it like yours, they have one at Woodmasters down in the bottoms In kansas city Wood mizers sister company the factory is in Hunt Midwest caves down off 210 hwy. SUBTROPLIOUS the tempture is constant year round. .
it has been a few years since I have had cafe 93 biscuits but I can confirm they are great! oh great now I 'm thinking about them again. my daughter and her family don't live to far from kingsport tn
Once you have figured out the berst place for the sawmill and edger, You could also just pour concrete footers at the location of your supports, so the machines are stable and flat (on the ground the sawmill can go out of level with the weight of the heavy logs and the impact when turning the logs). You will save on the amount of concrete and you could possibly do these footers yourself. One advantage of a full concrete floor would be that it is easier to sweep and blow clean.
