I've been getting seriously into mythology recently and now I have so many books to add to my ever growing tbr!
ahhh that's amazing, I'm so glad!
matching your shirt, eyeshadow, and earrings is such a power move
I've been obsessed with mythology since I was little (I remember learning the Egyptian pantheon by heart when I was 9), and I finally started my library. So you know damn well I'm taking notes on this.
same.....i never read novels but have lots of mythology book kinda addicted to it than novels
You ever play assassins creed origins?
@@Laocoon283 can't say I have
@@XTheBeautyGuruX Well do it.
I've been wanting to learn a little more about Greek mythology (yes, because I'm reading the Percy Jackson series for the first time...) so I might look into getting that Mythologica book, it looks amazing!
Ahhh I'm so glad you have Sioned's Edition of the Mabinogion (You were very close with the pronunciation; mab-e-noh-gi-on)! It is absolutely the best edition out there. The Celtic Miscellany is also a very good edition. Over the nine waves is considered to be less academic and not as good in terms of truth to the folklore; I would recommend Gantz's Early Irish Myths and Sagas as a better intro to Irish mythology. If you want any more recs for Welsh/Irish mythology/folklore/pronunciation let me know; I taught Celtic Mythology at Queens University, Belfast, for 2 years and have a PhD in Welsh and Irish folklore (King Arthur and Fionn mac Cumhaill, respectively!).
I need all the Welsh mythology rec.. I have some.. need them all 🙈😅
Ooh please do give more recs, I love Celtic mythology!!
Love this video!! It’s not a book but one way I like finding out about myths/folklore is the podcast called Myths and Legends which retells stories from all over the world and it’s fabulous (and super calming too!) xxx
I started listening to the podcast a year and half ago, and i am hooked 😍
So many beautiful editions to add to my wishlist! I've been loving anything illustrated so I can't wait to get my hands on some of these books 😍
This is quite an amazing collection.
What an amazing collection!! It is stunning. So much beautiful illustration. I’m really into Norse and Greek myth but this is really encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and dive into something new.
Annnnndddd now I've got so many more books to add to my TBR. So many pretty editions!
your intro... i feel this so much!! i’ve collected so many books and haven’t gotten to read them yet but i have such a desire to! it’s super tricky when life gets busy though to pick up a book and read
That is a nice collection in my opinion. I grew up on the Aesops fables, Grimm's Tales, and Greek Myths. I think I need to add to my collection for sure. Finding second hand of older versions of myth books always brings a joy to my heart with the old illustrations.
this was such a lovely video! I love all of the illustrated copies in this
I've been waiting to peek your collection since I first subscribed (your birthday haul gave me life). I love folklore and mythology and actually am doing my masters in Japanese Folklore, but you're making me want to branch out into Greek a little more with how beautiful some of these books are!
My wishlist just exploded 🙈 I now have a lot to choose from when I have worked my way through Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales, which is my current fairy tale/folklore read. You have such a fantastic collection 😍
Thank you and God bless you for this video. Been looking for something like this for a while. Putting all these books in my list 😁
I grew up reading fairytales from 366 and More Fairy Tales retold by Gianni Padoan and illustrated by Sandra Smith. This book was and is still one of my favorites to flip through because its split up into a story for every day of the year and each one had an illustration. So gorgeous 😍
i'm now just starting getting into mythology and i needed help looking for books and this is the right video for me
First, I absolutely LOVE your hair! It's so cute!
Also, I adore your collection! So many great editions and gorgeous books! I love watching your collection expand! And I hope you end up enjoying the inside of them when you read them as well!
I love the cover of the Chinese fairytales!!
I’ve been so excited for this!!!!
I'm really into mitology and folklore! Thanks for this video x
I love this video!! Thank you so much for doing this. Your collection is amazing
I have multiple paperback and soft cover editions of Edith Hamilton's Mythology. It has been a favorite since high school (50 years ago)! I will look for the illustrated hardback edition that you featured. Thanks for this vid!

Loved this so much! This was both informative and relaxing, highly appreciate that you commented on each and every book 🌞💫
I'm so glad!
This is a wonderful collection! It's very inspiring.
If you are interested in more Irish myths I recommend 'Lady Gregory's Complete Irish Mythology' ! Your collection is amazing
I need to get the Bushmen Folklore one. Thank you for this video. I totally love it
I made myself I nice cup of coffee and sat down to enjoy this video. What a bliss 😍😍😍😍

Such a wonderful video! I've already jotted down a few that I "need" to pick up :)
Wow! I’m so impressed by your collection! Now I have loads more folklore And books I would like to add to my collection too! Lol
This video was everything. I also have a large mythology and folklore collection. A few I would recommend: Fairy and Folk Tales of Ireland edited by WB Yeats. Phantasmagoria by Terry Breverton . And Indian Legends from the Northern Rockies by Ella E Clark
This is an amazing collection! Very inspiring. I'd love to read the Icelandic Folk Legends one and the Native American Legends compilation.
What---
I was looking for a video but this is
PERFECTION!!! ✨✨✨
The need is great and powerful! Excellent video! :D
Love the Barnes and Noble collectors editions! I have the Beauty and the Beast and other fairytales one!
WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO SEE IT
Ah Ashleigh this video is amazing! Love the way it was filmed, SO many gorgeous books, I've added so many to my to-buy list! x
Glad you enjoyed!
so many excellent recommendations- thank you!
I love this video! So many amazing books!
So genuine . I love how you didn't lie like you've read all of the books that you've reviewed 😭😂 . Much love ❤️. And damn I have got to add some of those books to my collection although I want a single compilation under "World Mythology " title 🥺
I'am so jealous darling!
Your mythology collection is amazing!
Thanks for sharing the video with the rest of us. ⭐⭐⭐
Wow, you have an amazing mythology book collection.
Just bought mythologica. Thanks for the recommendation ❤️
So many books added to my amazon wish list during this video
You already have an excellent collection Ashleigh, build upon it. I'm going to recommend just two books. Firstly, 'The Complete Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Egypt' by Richard H Wilkinson, published in 2003 by Thames And Hudson. Wilkinson has excellent Egyptological and academic credentials. The thing about Egyptian mythology is that, while there are many gods and goddesses, there are few monsters and no semi-divine heroes and, with a couple of notable exceptions, there is very little conflict between the gods. The Egyptian gods are, in the main, serene and dignified so this does not make for many mythic tales as such. Still, I think you'll find the book a valuable reference resource.
My second recommendation goes right back to the very beginning of recorded mythology. That is 'The Epic of Gilgamesh' - "Surpassing all other kings, heroic in stature, brave scion of Uruk, wild bull on the rampage, Gilgamesh the tall, magnificent and terrible..." This is a quote from the Penguin Classics edition. The story goes back 4,000 years and Gilgamesh has a lot in common with Greek heroes like Heracles and Odysseus. I've got the 2003 edition which is full of beautiful line illustrations taken from Mesopotamian art. Enjoy and have a lovely weekend !
WOW! Can I just say that your mythology/folklore collection is STUNNING! 😍 I have never purchased a book so fast (I’m looking at you Mythologica!) 😂 and the Warriors, Witches, Women book is also on my to-purchase list. I’m very interested in The Library of Greek Mythology too 😊 and the Japanese Tales 😅 I think I better add some of these to my wishlist. Great video, Ashleigh - quite possibly one of my all-time faves 🤗💜
an all time favourite?? Oh my goodness, thank you!
Thank you so much Ashley for this video!!!!! 😍😍😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️❤️🌸🌸🌸❤️❤️ So I was watching the video, created a collection called 'Ashley's collection' in bookdepository and included all the books mentioned by Ashley for future reference/purchase haha 😝😝😜😜🌸🌸🌸❤️❤️🌸🌸
Ooh I actually read Simon Armitage's Sir Gawain and the Green Knight recently and loved it! SO MUCH ALLITERATION! 😂
You have a great collection!!
YESSS WE LOVE YOU FAERIE QUEEN 👑
What a brilliant collection
Awesome video, thank you so much for this
The Norton critical edition of The Classic Fairy Tales looks so interesting! I'm tempted to order it right now 😂 I wrote my MA thesis on YA retellings of the classic Cinderella fairy tale, so this is definitely something I'm very interested in - also, I wish I knew about this book back then haha!
the illustrations 😍😍😍
I've read Le Morte d'Arthur. It's very thick but there's a lot of repetition from what I remember. Lots of knights getting of their horses for a duel, smiting each other to the ground. It was super interesting but not as compelling as I'd expected. I was glad that I didn't get the original medieval text, because the 'translated' version I read was already archaic enough at times. But definitely worth a read!
for iliad and odyssey, what I found helpful were annotations on them which are sold as separate books. iliad and odyssey with lots of footnote annotations would also be helpful.

OMG I loved this so so much and don't worry about not having read them all because girl...same. I cannot pinpoint what it is that keeps me from reading folklore/mythology but it is vaguely this fear of not 'getting' all of it and not recognizing the intertextuality if any. So I always feel like I have to do some pre-reading first. Of what? I have no idea. Sorry for the babble but your collection is glorious and now I have 156 books in my cart LMAO
All the love
Girl samee 😂😂
Woah this is such an big collection really loved watching it 🥰
Glad you liked it!!
Omg Mythologica is stunning
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 great collection🌹
Love this so much
Ahhh love this video!
I'm trying to get more into folklore and when I went to Iceland earlier this year, I really wanted to get a collection of their folk tales, but they were soooo expensive. I do have a couple of Norse mythology books and I did my undergrad dissertation on retellings of fairytales so I do a have a few of those, but they're very British.
That Irish Fairytale and Folklore books is STUNNING! OMG I want to read that so bad!
This is such an amazingly varied collection, is it bad that I was surprised?
`
Damn It! My books to buy list is big enough and you just made it bigger! Lol
Such an amazing collection! Now I want to buy all the books haha
You should! Treat yourself ahaha
Thank you for this marvellous video, I have added quite a few of these books to my Amazon wish list. One of the best books I have got about Greek Mythology is The Handbook of Classical mythology by Edward Tripp, It is a dictionary and is very in depth.
I somehow always forget that there are scottish tales 😂 I have to read some! Thank you for making this video 🦄💕
I was surprised you had not come across much British tales. In Cornwall you may find some good collections! X also i love German ones too.
This is pretty cool!!!
for norse mythology, the color comics of neil gaiman are pretty good retellings and they are called norse mythology (norse mythology volume 1), norse mythology II (norse mythology volume 2) and norse mythology III (norse mythology volume 3).
Maybe you should do a 24 hs/weekend readathon with the shorter books! If it's something you're interested in obviously :)
So yeah my wishlist just grew even more 🙈🙈
I don’t think I saw it but you should get The Táin if you don’t have it. It’s an Irish myth. I’m only about a third of the way through it and it’s already great!
For Indian Mythology go for books of Devdut Pattanayak....Has nice little illustrations here and there
I also collect myth and legend books, and watching this I was like, that looks kind of familiar... I also have a Jake Jackson book, but mine is Japanese myths!
for mythology, I tend to try more places. there are mythology books on mesopotamia, hittite, ugarit, canaan, north america, central america, south america, hawaii, etc. I am from the philippines and I have the whole set of philippine mythology books by Damiana Eugenio which includes volumes on riddles, proverbs and folk songs.
as a childhood mythology book reader....i want them all
You have to check out the Zipes edition of the brothers grim because Zipes translates the original stories published in the brothers grimms first edition from the original German- it is amazing to see exactly what the stories were in 1812 before they evolved over time. Also, Great video- I immediately added many of these to my wishlist :)
ahh good old Zipes. I've only ever read his essays on fairytales
The Treasury of Irish Folk and Fairytales was really hard to read. But I'm trying to push through it.
Illustrated Myths & Legends of China translated by tony blishen is a newer translation from around 2018.
heroes gods and monsters of the greek is awesome
If you want a more fun way to read mythology, I really enjoyed Stephen Frys retellings: Mythos, the greek myths retold and Heroes, mortals and monsters, quests and adventures. He has a really fun writing style, also, if you're wanting to dive more into norse mythology, a good beginner friendly book is Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, it's also a very fun, easy read
I’ve read all of the above but didn’t really like any of them sadly 😅
This is one of my favorite videos that I have ever seen in the entirety of my history as a BookTube watcher. It was that awesome.
oh wow that's a bold claim, thank you!!
I love all mythology too from around the world I’ve got Norse and Greek mythology next is Hinduism for me
I’m glad I’m not the only one with a stack of mythology books but haven’t yet read most 😂
Micellar water on a cotton pad will take any sticky mark right off! And won’t damage your book as long as it’s a not a paper cover, just Whip the excess of with a damp cloth or cotton pad and the dry ⭐️ literally the best thing I’ve ever thought of hahaha
shall give it a go, thank you!
There are two illustrated books by Abhishek Singh. One is NAMAHA and the other is PURNAM. You may check these out if you have an interest in Hindu Mythology. Anyways, it is a great suggestion about mythological books. Thank you.
I love everything about this video, and my wishlist just grew way too much 😂💚
I would love to read abt Medusa... book behind her...
These look so fun!
Also, I’ve been trying to find this book for years now but I can’t remember the title or the name of the author. But, I do remember some parts of the book:
-The cover of the book was like a blue sky with fairies flying around in the middle
-There was once scene where water pond/ lake fairies made you answer riddles to pass the lake
-There was a scene were you walked into a shy weeping fairy in an icy cave
-There was a scene in the dark, where the pond/ lake morphed into a face of person....
That’s really all I remember, also the book was more a chapter thick book, rather than a thin book
If anyone knows the name of the book or the author pls tell me, thank you 🙏🏻🤍🤍
Have you read Yvain? I found it a really interesting addition to Arthurian romance that I read a few years ago!
I haven't!
You should read mythos by Stephen fry!
Highly informative! For a broader perspective, you'd do well to read a similar book. "Galaxies United" by Olivia Whitestone
Where did you buy your Edith Hamilton book? And How much? Thank you
Thanks to you I left Amazon with a basketful of mythology books. I expect partial compensation missy :P
THIS IS SUCH AN EXTENSIVE LIST. I will be happily be broke. I wanted to get in mythology, fairytales and folklore and this is just a sigh. And thaaaankkk you for this listtt ❤️
Hi!! I'm new here and I really wanna start reading Greek mythology but I don't know where to start, I keep hearing about the Illad, The Odyssey, and other books but I don't really know where to start or what book to read to learn more about the different gods and stuff since I know almost nothing about them lol. I've been looking at the book "Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes" by Edith Hamilton, is it any good for a beginner? Any recommendations for someone who's just starting out? Thanks so much and ur book collection is so beautiful and cool!
