So it has been a year.... How did did school go, were you able to get hired as quickly as you thought and are you making the kind of money you expected right out of school?
Im about to start at MMI in Phoenix, got mostly passed the jitters during orientation because I’m a vet and got to meet a lot of other vets. But hearing your story (being someone who doesn’t know where to start on a Harley) really helps settle in. Thank you
You know a few months ago I was planning to go to bartending school now I'm getting ready to enter MMI and Avondale Arizona what a Godsmack thanks for all your info dude picture being a Pier
Hay john thanks for the idea about MMI. You might think I'm nuts but I'm retiring soon at 57 and I'm looking for something else to do that I love. Motorcycles have been in my life for 43 years so maybe I can make a little pocket money but more than that do something I enjoy. I am wondering will I be to old for this? I never have been able to sit still.
You will be surprised at the age diversity at MMI. Young and old attend and to be really honest I found the older people was more of my crowd while going to MMI.
FORGET THE MMI YOU HAVE TO PAY LIKE $ 30K PLUS TOOLS AND THEN HOW YOU ARE GOING TO FIND A JOB WITHOUT EXPERIENCE ? GO TO THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND GET YOUR AIRCRAFT CERTIFICATE AND YOU WILL GET A BETTER JOB.
Big dirty thumbs up John. To be a mechanic years ago you just needed to be mechanically incline. The technology has create a job market were you have to go to school to learn any brand or manufacture and then stay on top of the latest updates. MMI sounds like it was a good choice for you. Your personality will probably take you to the sales floor just like in bar tending you’re a people person. Great Video For the school.
Great video, about to retire from the military of 20+ years and want to attend Motorcycle Certification and I think you sold me on the program I'm going to go with.
Yep, I checked in to the school years ago, had to put it off because we had a child with medical needs that was a higher priority. I still wish I could have done the school but I do not regret my decision.
John you're the man ! Love your channel. I am not a professional motorcycle technician but I am a professional industrial maintenance mechanic. The pay is very good basically because there is a high demand for qualified technicians in this industry. I like my job but I love working on motorcycles. I have been doing major motorcycle work on the side for about 15 years now and have been considering opening my own shop . Is there possibly an advanced course for someone like me ?
Great video. I was looking in to that AZ MMI. Would be kool if I was 32 years younger. $30k is a little steep even for my GI Bill to cover, but I love wrenching
Thank you for the comment, Wolf. Please don't forget about the Veteran 10% tuition discount, and the MMI tuition is about $22,000. Please get in touch if you have any questions!!
Great video, John. I’m 50, obsessed with HD, want to live this last trimester of my life doing something I enjoy. If I’m correct I thought I saw around $20K for the new HD program? WOW! If you get hired by HD, do they offer tuition reimbursement? Thx!
Alexandr Sedov it depends, some colleges offer a certificate. I know salt lake community college does ( thought about it ) but I’m already trying to get through a degree , maybe afterwards.
I'm really looking to start the process of becoming a motorcycle mechanic. I just started riding in February of this year and finding a local mechanic to work on my 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 is almost impossible. On top of that the nearest dealership/ service center is 4 to 6 weeks behind which tells me, in due time, there is a market for opening up shop in the future. I am looking at focusing on Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha because it seems everybody nearby works on harleys and usually the first words out of their mouths are; nice bike, when are you going to buy a Harley! But outside of my MC life I just enjoy to ride and see a ton of "rice burners", so they need their upkeep and repairs also..... any info would be great
I have the big question. For some reason no one can ever answer.I have a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster 48 with spoke rims. Factory spoke rims. The question is will a 2016 Harley Davidson 48 with the mag rims fit my 2011 without having to make any serious mods???????????
Great, I like the encouragement to go to school and get certified. Best way to go. I was an apprentice, I got sent to school as part of it. so I am time served and certified. Good apprenticeship is hard to come by, here most require pre apprentice school. A good school helps with placement. Red seal or journeyman. You can find a good job.
I'm still looking for info on the price for the class for HD tech. I keep getting the run around so I'm guessing it's like $40k if nobody can just tell me straight up.
Hi Hector, thank you for the comment. The MMI program tuition is about $22,000 before Financial Aid and/or Scholarships. More information about funding is available at mmitech.edu thanks!
How often are females seen in this program? Were there any in your class? I understand motorcycles are generally more of a men's thing, and career female mechanics, I am sure are a far smaller segment of the riding populous. I just am curious if there is still a bias against female mechanics, especially with regards to getting hired after graduation. I wondered if you had any perspectives here, or knew any lady mechanics that may be able to shed some light on this subject for me.
I have a off subject comment for you those high carb deep fried spuds are not your friend take care of your personal health now and live longer and feel better , I do enjoy your videos
I mean from what I see dude a lot of people that go there don’t know a lot about motorcycles but they still do it lol. I don’t know Jack shit about bikes lol I don’t even know all the tools but I’m still thinking about it
Hi Kerry, if you are looking for an MMI shirt, please reach out to the campus and ask for the student store. If you are looking for a shirt from the shop that John is working, please reach out to them directly. Thanks!

I agree 100%.

Hi Rodney, John touches on that in his other video, around the 8 minute mark: ruclips.net/video/2p06Mq8w850/видео.html - Thanks!
You're never too old to learn new tricks, despite what is said. :) Good luck!

Yep, I checked in to the school years ago, had to put it off because we had a child with medical needs that was a higher priority. I still wish I could have done the school but I do not regret my decision.

What’s the starting pay a Harley mechanic after MMI? Or any motorcycle mechanic after MMI?
Great video, John. I’m 50, obsessed with HD, want to live this last trimester of my life doing something I enjoy. If I’m correct I thought I saw around $20K for the new HD program? WOW! If you get hired by HD, do they offer tuition reimbursement? Thx!
Hi! I from Russia! What conditions for foreigners? What price for training in the program 24 weeks? Whether accommodation is possible? Thanks!

Where did John go? This is not just an advertisement for schools.
Had no idea clicking on this from Google that this wasn't John's channel xD
Great, I like the encouragement to go to school and get certified.

I was an apprentice, I got sent to school as part of it. so I am time served and certified.

Technician automotive Is different than motorcycle technician?
There is a lot of overlap, but generally speaking automotive technician and motorcycle technician are separate career paths. Thank you.
I'm still looking for info on the price for the class for HD tech. I keep getting the run around so I'm guessing it's like $40k if nobody can just tell me straight up.
The HD program is 42 weeks and tuition is $19,500 - if you have other questions, pls call 1-800-834-7308, thanks!

Very nice and informative video. One question though. Do you have to have a beard to be a motorcycle mechanic?
How often are females seen in this program? Were there any in your class? There are quite a few female students and technicians in the moto world. Check out thegirlswhowrench on IG - Thank you!

Yes, the MMI program is designed for students with little to no prior knowledge, thanks!
