    I purchased a 2021 Ford power boost with the 7.2 kW inverter generator on the tailgate - my very first pick up truck which I use to tow a 7000 pound trailer across North America… for me the inverter generator provides me with complete independence when trailering - I can power my RV completely when I’m boondocking (or my house should the power fail). I get roughly 24 to 26 miles per gallon in the city which is a significant game changer for a truck used in urban areas… I’m totally puzzled why Ford hasn’t come out with a plug-in Ford F150 hybrid with 60 to 80 miles of electric only range - this would enable owners to drive gas free during the week and completely change the economic formula for owning a pick up truck…. No range anxiety, retain the tailgate on board generator, no worry about lagging infrastructure and really long distance towing capability… Ford would capture people interested in exploring electric vehicles but not yet ready to commit to electric. I think FORD would sell a boatload of these products if they took the next step…

      @@hockeymikey The F150 hybrid operates electric-only for short bursts and so long as you really are gentle with the pedal...It also support acceleration and provides torque with the gas engine running....

      @@windfall35 Dang, that sucks. I really want more of a Rav4 prime like hybrid, or a PHEV where I can use pure electric for those short trips, but got the gas there if I need it which would really help if I was say off road and only recharging using a solar panel.

      when you live out in the country, this is way better (& cheaper) than the fully electric lightning, as you can do road trips & not have to wait to charge at places :P

    21,4 MPG is actually pretty good when you think of everything you did with the truck, including towing upper hill and off-roading.

    The FORD F150 PowerBoost is the BEST all around truck on the market today...IMHO. It just makes sense. I wish FORD would do that with the Bronco and SuperDuty line. Nice video!

      @@deerhunter7966 it just doesn’t look right. It looks like it’ll droop any time you put any kind of weight in the back. Even front-engined supercars are are slightly higher in the rear.

    I just picked up my 2022 powerboost in large part due to your reviews Andre. I have about 1500 miles on it now and have averaged anywhere from 25-29 mpg in the city with it. On the freeway I average between 21-25 as well. My neighbor has a 22 150 2.7 work truck and as it happened we had a 35 mile run that was the same, mostly highway, I wound up with 25, he was 19.1 for the same loop.
    When Andre looks at the 21 mpg he was getting dissappointed for some reason. You gotta remember that’s city/highway, idle time, towing etc. honestly that’s substantial. I would be willing to bet on a day to day basis that 2.7 would average more like 15-16 when used everyday, with idling and towing etc. 21 mpg is 30 percent less fuel being used than that 2.7. Which is substantial

      I have 3.5 w/o powerboost FX4 I have a 36 gallon tank and I average 19-21 mpg with each tank. I have never, ever had an average of 15 on a tank of gas unless I am towing. If I am pulling my boat regularly say 25% of the miles for that tank mpg drops to 16-17. I have a friend with the 2.7, he betters me by 1-2 mpg consistently. He and I are long time truck owners, I typically carry a crate for my dog, tennis gear, or have my bike on the rear if I am not towing. I can average 21 and it's simply because I am driving normally not accelerating hard.

      Yeah I’ve owned my XL F-150 5.0 4wd SCab for about the same amount of time as Andre has had his (mine is a used 13th Gen though). Over that time I’ve tracked with Fuelly and I think have a similar distribution of driving (10-15% towing with daily and highway mixing up the rest). My Fuelly says I’m at 17.2mpg for all that, which in my mind is pretty good considering. But 4mpg difference at that level is quite a bit. I can see the benefit the Powerboost brings.

      It all depends on your right foot.
      My 21 2.7EB 4 by 4 is getting a calculated 11.5 l/100km (20.5 mpgeeees).
      Keep in mind it’s only at 7500 km and mostly run in cold temps. This will still go up as it beds in and is used in the summer.
      To put in perspective, the truck pretty much has dirt bike in the back 80% of the time on hwy. remainder is city driving.

    The F-150 FX4 Hybrid with 7.2kw Power Onboard is the best all-around pickup in its class. Period.

      Yeah after all the problems with the the ecoboost Ford has finally worked out most of the issues. It would be awesome if chevy and ram could build a reliable boosted engine competitor seeing as the 5.7 and 6.2 are getting long in the tooth but they are more reliable. Imagine something like a single turbo 5.3. That would amazing.

      Based on the specs the Lightning seems like it will be a very very strong competitor depending on your use case (not so good for towing long distance)

      @@sotek2345 F-150 Hybrid gets over 700 miles per tank and has the home power backup feature that can fully power the average home for 30 hours on a tank of fuel.

    I have a 2021 F150 STX have travelled 21000 miles in 10 months never been back to the dealer for anything have done 4 oil changes average fuel is 23mpg it is a great truck has the 2.7 ecoboost and yes I do tow with it as well

    Why would 21.4 MPG be disappointing if 23 MPG was the rating? Didn't you say you've been towing and doing 0-60 sprints? Thanks for the update Andre, always love the long term reviews. Keep up the great work!

      I feel like the 23 is probably city heavy and highway light. Andre seems to drive a little more highway and a little less city so to me that adds up. I am sure with even more city driving this truck probably even does better.

      Based on what he showed us, towing accounts for about 10% of his miles and he was only getting 12-13 mpg which he actually considered a good result. But he does seem to be oblivious to the fact that this is part of his overall average and will drag down his mileage. I did some quick math and after subtracting out several hundred miles worth at 12.5 mpg, the rest of the miles came to exactly 23 mpg. It's a quick and dirty calculation but I am confident that it's at least in the ballpark. So, yeah, I think Andre is being a little harsh on the truck's mileage as it's performing roughly on par with the EPA estimate.

      It get better gas mileage towing 8100lbs that my 2014 Chevy 2500 hd gas burner gets empty. That’s pretty impressive!

      came here to say the same thing, he needs to factor in the towing mileage and back calculate the non-towing mileage.
      i.e. total miles/21.4 - towing miles/towing mpg = non towing gallons. then (total miles - towing miles)/non-towing gallons
      btw, doing this equation while assuming total 500 towing miles at 13.0mpg. the mileage comes out to 23.0 mpg

      Agreed. A truck like this would be useful to my friend who works with fuel and has to go out in the field to check the pipes at least every two weeks. He insists on a V8 because smaller engines put him to sleep after an hour of driving. Do these turbo engines buzz like a V6 or a four cylinder?

    When you consider that the Honda 7000 watt generator is around $5000, the upgrade cost on your truck is a great deal. It’s integrated and has way more capability. I have the same mirrors on my truck and absolutely love them.

      @@SuperSnakePlissken I own a large solar company and we also install generators. Based on our experience installing approaching 18000 generators now, Onan what I used as an emergency backup for my own home thats 3000ft2 and completely off grid

    My 20-year-old F-150 has almost 300,000 miles and running strong! I've always used Automotive Wolf car care software to track all the maintenance and send me text reminders when any service is due. Does a great job! I'm not looking to upgrade my truck for another 10 years :)

    Love my power boost xlt. Great when we lost power 2 times, just hooked my rv and ran the ac . For rust I've used OSPHO for decades . So nice not having to take a heavy generator in the bed.

    I've got 12K miles on my '22 Powerboost 4x4. I'm very pleased with the truck to this point. I've had two relatively minor issues, but nothing major. Both issues were corrected without any actual parts on the truck being replaced (wire harness wasn't properly seated). During the summer the truck alone averaged 24+mpg. Winter mileage is predictably less but I was still getting 21+mpg. I have a 5'x 10' enclosed tool trailer and aluminum boat/trailer that I frequently tow. The tool trailer is rather light (less than 2000# but the front of the trailer is a 35sq. ft. flat surface that catches a lot of wind) and when pulling it I get around 15 mpg. My boat is about 4000# and I get around 14 mpg when pulling it. My previous truck was a '15 Tundra with the 4.6L. I'd get 12mpg pulling either trailer with it and I had to run it in manual shift mode because the 6 speed transmission was constantly up/down shifting. The Powerboost will run in 10th gear on the highway pulling either trailer, even up a grade.
    The truck will put itself into hybrid/electric mode when driving on flat/decending grade roads and when it is stopped at a light or in traffic provided the battery has enough voltage to power the truck. The battery is charged primarily through regenerative braking but the engine also provides recharging power through the alternator/generator. I found that during the summer I could drive as much as a mile or so on hybrid power alone provided I had enough "no load" distance to travel. When the battery voltage falls too low to power the truck, the engine kicks on seamlessly and remains on as needed. What ends up happening is that during the course of a drive the truck will run in hybrid mode for a tenth of a mile here, a half a mile there. During a period last summer I was driving to the same job site everyday for several months and during this period I was averaging 18-20 hybrid miles per 100 mile round trip.
    There are 8 different driving modes for the truck that relate to the road conditions. I drive the truck almost exclusively in eco mode when not towing and then tow/haul when towing. The truck won't go into hybrid mode when in tow/haul mode unless the truck is in park. Hybrid mode is different than the start/stop technology available in some vehicles. Start/stop shuts the vehicle down essentially; heat/AC will be inoperable when in stop mode. In hybrid mode all of the systems of the truck continue to operate normally. When I took delivery of the truck it was a hot day. The air was on in the cab as the salesman went over the various controls/settings of the truck. After about 10 minutes I noticed that the truck began to shake ever so slightly. I asked the salesman what that was and I was informed that that was the motor running because the battery voltage had decreased and the motor was now recharging the battery. The truck ran for about a minute and then switched itself back to hybrid mode. This is also an indication of how quiet the cab is. The truck doesn't run in hybrid mode in the winter as much as the summer due to the fact that the colder temps drain the battery quicker. The difference is minimal.
    The truck shines best in city driving with regard to mileage. Sometimes while driving around town I'll average 28mpg+.
    For me the truck is exactly what I wanted/needed in a truck. The electric motor/engine provides exceptional power (430 hp, 570 ft.lb) while also getting exceptional mileage. It's comfortable and it's got all the creature comforts that I need. I'm not into the whole Chevy vs Ford thing or whatever, that's just silliness. When I buy I simply look for a vehicle that fits my needs best without any consideration for the nameplate. I drive my trucks for a year or two after they've been paid for and then move on two another. Prior to this truck I'd been an import guy (Titan and Tundra)simply because of the reliability reputation they have as well as personal experience and I looked real hard at the hybrid Tundra. The Tundra was my first choice but lack of availability and the inability to spec a Tundra out exactly as I wanted pushed me to the Powerboost.

    Not bad. You tow heavy and off-road, plus did a lot of the inverter testing just idling, so 21.4 mpg avg is pretty stellar for all you do with this truck.

      @@roddycreswell8613 Due to the difference in diesel vs gas fuel costs as of end of day yesterday across the USA you are paying more than 24 cents a mile in fuel cost and Andre is paying less than 20 cents a mile. In other words, your fuel costs are 20 percent more per mile than Andre's cost.

    I own the Powerboost “Lariat model” and I don’t have any of the issues you had with the truck. I haul 15-25 scuba tanks plus gear with it almost everyday and get 22-23mpg with it. And I don’t tend to drive slow! I have at times drove the speed limit and get 24-25mpg. I also use the generator from time to time and no matter what I plug in to it, it powers it. 🙌🏻

    Thanks in part to your ownership and videos of the PB, I went ahead and ordered one. My '22 Lariat PB was built last week and hopefully I'll receive it by the first of May. I had already owned lots of 3.5EB, along with a 2.7EB and some 5.0 litres, so I was very comfortable with the 3.5EB powerplant. This XL Powerboost and a Maverick are the best in class trucks out there now IMHO. The attention some surface rust on a rear diff has garnered is almost laughable; in my 45 years of driving trucks I've never once heard of any issues caused by it.

      Ha must not live in the rustbelt. I had an old navigator with the triton V8 and the running boards almost rusted off. My friend had an f150 with his running boards held on by ratchet straps and holes in the floorboards. Living somewhere like Wisconsin rust can become a problem even after 5 years if you dont coat the truck in something or religiously keep on top of it.

      @@Nick-sx6jm Ha, read my comment........ I'm referring to the rear diff in my comment. Rust on a rear diff is a nothing burger. Are you familiar with any issues related to a rusty rear diff? Very familiar with corrosion of metal; I've been a metallurgist for 40 years.

    Hi Andre, I have a 21 2.7EB. A Few ideas.
    For stance I removed the 1/3/4 blocks that are on the rear axle. It’s free and the truck is level now.
    The front bulbs can be accessed by removing the inner wheel covers. Relatively easy.

      Oem springs can only do so much. Any heavier loads will need poly or air bags.

    This is my dream vehicle. Never in my worst nightmares did I think I’d ever want to own a hybrid vehicle, especially a hybrid truck. But that inverter system has me sold on it. All the things you can do with it, especially in an emergency preparedness sense, are amazing. I also think Andre got his configured right. The hybrid power plant, inverter and a crew cab. That’s all I need. Everything else can be bare bones

      I don’t think it’s as complicated as a typical hybrid though. It’s an engine that’s already been proven for 12 years with an electric motor added between the engine and trans. It wasn’t designed as a hybrid from the ground up. Just an engine with an electric motor added to it

    I love my 2021 F150 but I went with the 2.7l ecoboost. 8000 trouble free miles so far. I've had it a little over a year now and it's been awesome. Camping season is here and I'm looking forward to pulling my camper again with it.

      Love my 2017 3.5L Ecoboost with a little under 60k miles on her and just oil changes done. Average a bit over 21 MPG. FANTASTIC truck. Shes been perfect from day 1 when i ordered her.

    Hey Andre, your F150 is (in my opinion) the most appealing truck in the TFLs fleet since the red Chevrolet Silverado Trail boss and the F250 with the shack in the top. Those scratches are war wounds and give the truck soul and personality. Nice purchase, the best in the fleet no doubt

    after owning my PowerBoost for 6 months, I would say you are right about being able to do basic truck stuff with 2.7, or bigger truck stuff with 3/4 ton.
    On the other hand, I love the get up and go mine has, and just as much, I love coasting along in electric mode, and generator mode which just runs a few minutes every 45 minutes or so. This is a really fun truck to own!
    And wierdly, in Wisconsin without any major hills, but with winter snow 4wd and rare towing, my avg MPG is also 21.4. But I expect to see it go up a lot now that I will be doing long camping trips, because on a recent relaxed 95 mile across the state, with 5500miles on the truck, I got 30 MPG of buzzing along sweetness. Probably by the time I am back from vacation I will be at 24 mpg avg.

    Thank you for your honest review, I run A 2018 f150 5.0 and averaging 18 to 25 mpg . Tows like a champ, zero over heating and best of all cheaper than the hybrid. Also like you mine is an XL so savings up front as well. Cheers.

    Bigger tires, level kit and a Lariat/Platinum (leather) steering wheel is about all your truck needs Andre.

      When doing a lift, skip the leveling kit and do a true lift (put a lift on front and rear). The trend towards leveling kits is odd to me. Pickups look weird without rake. And leveling kits when towing (or any amount of payload) and they are sagged out in the rear which looks bad and it messes with proper hitch height/angles/brake proportioning sensors, etc.

      Everyone has their own taste. For me I like about 1-1.5” of rake in a pickup. Fords notoriously come with up to 3” of rake sometimes (mine did) which is just odd looking and props the bed up way too high to access for most. I get their rationale but for me if I tow heavy I’ll just get airbags or spring assist devices to accommodate.

    Traded my 2018 for a 2021 hybrid lariat drives great also very quiet. Really has good power and plenty of technology. Have moved my weather tech floor mats from the 2015 ,2018 ,now 2021. Enjoy your info as always Andre.

    Regarding your comment about the stance. Yes, it's ass high. That's for a reason. When you put a load in the bed, or hook up a heavy trailer, you are now level. When you put a leveling kit on and raise the front you will no longer be level with a load in the bed or trailer hooked up. You'll be blinding all oncoming traffic at night. This isn't rocket surgery.

    I use to do MPG test on customer vehicles at Ford Dealerships when there was a complaint or concern and most of the time the test were really close to Manufactures specs. One that I remember was a 1986 F150 and was 11 mpg . A lot has changed for sure.

    Andre you are lucky you bought your truck when you did. Your truck would cost you +10% or more now. The PowerBoost set up is certainly worth having for the mpg, camping, working, and I helped a woman with a flat tire.

    I'm not sure how differently the new trucks are constructed but on my 2019 F150 I just removed 3 screws in the wheel well behind the headlights and peel it back. Once you peel back the wheel well cover you have immediate access to the back of the headlight assembly to change bulbs without disassembling the whole front end of the truck.

      He's pointing out how reality and the way they test the vehicles to get those numbers don't match and will never match. Also, if you're getting a truck like this and doing what he did with it, mpg is not top priority.

      Most people don't drive their trucks like Andre did. Most people aren't doing 0-60 tests and drag races and pulling tests up steep hills with the throttle pegged.
      He got worse economy because of all the testing. Those EPA rated fuel economy numbers are based on driving on flat paved road with one person in the vehicle and no trailer. Do anything besides that and of course the numbers will be lower.
      That being said, it is very often that people can get even BETTER numbers than the official EPA rating. It all depends on how you drive.
      So blaming the truck for not matching the numbers is pretty misleading. The biggest factor in fuel economy is your right foot.

    Here in NH, I did a DIY undercoat using something called Fluid Film. You need to do a touch up each fall (depending on usage), but it really keeps the rust away. It is a messy job and not for everyone though. Cost is about $100 the first time, then less for the touch ups. Great recap about your experience. I’m a big fan of all the TFL content. You guys are PROs.

      Yes, everybody in the Salt Belt needs to rustproof as part of their regular preventative maintenance program. Here in Ontario, I take my car to Krown Rustproofing on an annual basis and the whole process is over in an hour. Yesterday was spring cleaning day when I took it to the car wash and installed my summer tires. After 17 winters, the car is as solid as the day it left the factory.

      Fluid film is used by military. It's lamb fat and it's great stuff. It's pretty much Wax oil.

      PB blaster makes a product called surface shield great stuff better than fluid film that's what I used on my new ram truck it last longer than fluid film👍🛻

      @@ocrapo9327 it's actually not lamb fat it's the lanolin from wool processing, which is the sheep's natural water proofing/wax. Personally I think the stuff smells great.
      To the OP, another option up here in the northeast is NHOU, a black undercoating that if I'm not mistaken was developed and based in NH. I know they have a shop in Chichester that you can bring your vehicle to to get undercoated.
      I'm in VT and most shops offer undercoating, usually with fluid film or wool wax, generally around 100-150 bucks to have it done. Recently someone near me started a mobile undercoating business. It's important with how much cars cost now, don't want to be replacing them due to rust as soon as the payments are up.

    Excellent review of your truck Andre. As for overheating when towing, you can always slow down and/or shift the transmission down to keep RPMs up. Putting taller tires on the truck will not help when towing either. They will make the engine work harder, so for sure shift down to keep RPMs up.

      @@TermlessHGW Higher RPMs allow the coolant to flow more quickly. It also allows the engine to have a lower strain on it. The engine can pull at 1500 rpm, but pulling the same load at the same mph at 3000 rpm is easier for the engine. It gives the engine the advantage back.

      Imagine how awesome it would be if they all offered a boosted V8. Like a single turbo 5.0 for ford, the 5.3 for chevy, and 5.7 for ram. They could all easily make 500 hp and at least 550 lb ft while getting 20+ mpg.

      I do own that truck with a few upgrades. So far it has been great. I agree, it would make sense to have the hybrid with the small Ecoboost. Get more power and take some load off the small turbo. I think hybrid with the V8 doesn't make much sense though and will never happen.

    I will never put a levelling kit on a truck ever again, I truly believe changing the geometry of the suspension dramatically reduces the life of front end parts

    Mileage will vary! If you recorded the EXACT mileage in both CITY and HGWY driving and THEN figured it out, you could be "disappointed". 21+ mpg in a full size 4x4 pickup with 400+HP and 550+FtLb TQ is pretty damn good.

    Those towing mirrors are awesome. had them on my last F150 and loved them. They fold in for tight spots, NBD. Agree, these trucks along with other 1/2 tons may say they are rated for 10,000# plus but if you plan on towing in the 8-10k range, you need airbags and you'll be happier if you aren't towing in mountains. The 3.5 ecoboost has plenty of power, that isn't the issue, its the truck only weighs some 4,500# and gets unstable especially at freeway speeds. Great trucks. If you tow over 8k pounds on the regular, skip the headaches and go to a 3/4 ton which is what I ended up doing.

I feel having options to pick and choose what is right for you is more important than having select features standard with no ability to remove.

    We have a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with a 4.0 V6 and 5 spd auto transmission with a tow package with 3.55 limited slip rear.
    I’ve added a K&N intake, a 3” FlowMaster exhaust and air shocks.
    Last year we had to go to the family farm in MT to get a full load of things we need for our property here in WA state.
    We loaded the Ranger, put 70# of air in the shocks and 50# of air in the rear tires.
    While in MT on the freeway we set the cruise at 85mph and got 24mpg. Once in WA, we had to reduce our speed to 75mph and got 25mpg.
    Ford said our Ranger would only get 19 mpg on the highway. We currently get 18mpg around town and 22mpg combined fuel economy.
    I’m sure the increase in fuel economy was because of the mods that I’ve done to our Ranger.
    I know just for changing the intake and exhaust has increased the torque, horsepower and definitely the mpg.
    I’ve done the same mods on all 3 of our vehicles and we’ve noticed the difference.

    On my 18 platinum I installed an aftermarket intercooler and piping along with a catch can and it is the perfect tow rig. Intake Temps get high in the summer so they do run a little hot. Now its cool as ever towing cars mowers anything in the summer. Also for the catch can haters... if you see what it keeps from going into your charge pipes, intercooler, and engine you would get one as well. It goes a long way on amy boosted engine for longevity. Its not a matter if Ford got it right or not. Its about facts and everytime I pour it out I am thankful. Good video Andre, I hope she holds up another year for you. Also the mpg will get close to rating but I dont think towing 5000 plus lbs is included in the epa rating. Just a thought

    I use high temp grill paint to help protect my exhaust and make it look better (or hide). Seeing matte black under there is so much better than seeing that rusty pipe i think, plus it should save me from having to replace it for a while

    Nice review. Those standard tires are there to help get the best fuel efficiency. After you get bigger tires you're definitely going to affect fuel efficiency.

    Fantastic honest up to date review. The perfect reason why I keep coming back. Your opinion and view is highly appreciated by me. And while I do not need a truck IF I did, this would be on my radar. It is perfect the way it is. IMO. I would not modify it. And sure, the extra $ for the hybrid/inverter feels steep, I would probably do it myself. When the power goes out, it is a NICE feature to have to power home items. Thanks Andre. :)

    I really like your delivery in your videos. Informative. Easy to listen to you. Just a nice down-to-earth approach. As for the truck, I'd be really disappointed with 3 check engine lights and an overheating issue towing within the limits within the first year of ownership. As for the light rust, my 2007 GMC Canyon had cosmetic rust on the underside during the first year of ownership. 15yrs later there is no perforation on any of the areas. So don't bother yourself with it.

    Hey Andre, I live at a significantly lower sea level (700ft). I average 23-26mpg when driving. Across 11,000 miles I have 22mpg. So yes under advertised, but I’ve got plenty of off-roading, etc. mixed in

    we have a 2019 XLT with the V8 and FX4 package. Fixed the rake with Bilstein 5100 up front. Upgraded the junk tires to 18 Toyo AT Extreme's. I did write Ford about junk tires and the FX4 package. I questioned the sales Brochure's writeup;
    " FX4 Off Road” decals on your pickup box let everyone know your F-150 is capable of serious, off-road travel. The FX4 Off-Road Package equips your truck to get out there with an electronic-locking rear differential, underbody skid plates that help protect the front differential, transfer case and fuel tank, Hill Descent Control,™ and off-road-tuned shock absorbers. Monitor the action from the driver’s seat on the off-road display in the productivity screen."
    and the stock passenger rated tires it came with. The answer I got back;
    "From time to time new vehicle option packages are added, deleted or modified. Decisions to make these changes take into account factors such as market trends, customer demands, engineering advances, and dealership input. "
    Seems a little contradictory to me. I would have gladly paid more for the FX4 package if it came with tires that supported the claim above.
    My Truck came with the trailer tow package.... and no brake controller or mirrors. Had to add both to make it capable of doing what was claimed.
    Do I like the truck, absolutely. Just a little frustrated on what I had to do to make it able to live up to the Ford brochures claims.

    Buying a XLT later this year.. Having a toy hauler / SXS and camping and seeing generator theft and people causing issues. Having that generator onboard is huge. Plus the power and MPG not towing is perfect. So solid decision for me. The wife will drive this to and from work daily 2-4 miles under 25mph which would constantly put it on hybrid mode anyway for the most part. Thanks for the content on this rig!

      The towing gaunlet is pretty intensive, towing 9,500lbs with a half ton truck, towing at a agressive up hill grade and at elevation in the mountains, just starting out in Denver means 5000 foot elevation as a starting point. not a lot of people are going to run their trucks this hard when towing. there are a lot of people who drive trucks who will never even see 5000 feet.

    If your gas mileage of 21.4 MPG is combined driving with occasional towing thrown into the average, then you you are doing well. When I tow with my truck it knocks down my distance till empty average. Not defending Ford because they are notorious for over stating MPG but you have to make sure you take all your driving into consideration.

    Video quality was good. Comments were in error a couple of times. Manufactures don't bother to paint axles and exhaust hangars, doesn't affect longevity of components. Comment about rake while empty is a necessary characteristic of pick up trucks in general, with the exception of Dodge's air suspension. The rear spring rate is based on load capacity, so when there is no cargo, rear will sit higher. Running empty may have been part of the problem with the headlights, they are aimed with suspension at load height, so empty, headlights will be aimed down. Ford seems to have built a very good truck, very useful to the average truck owner, and that was illustrated by your video inspite of your comments.

    I have a 2018 King Ranch F150 with the 3.5 with 36k miles and about 2000 are towing a 9000k 36ft trailer. Would not recommend a 1/2 ton truck for a 9000lb camper. Over all MPG 17.1. So your 21 is awesome.

    Towing is like bench pressing. It's good to know your max, but your max should not be what you do regular reps with. Most people don't realize that these trucks aren't really designed to tow their max for long distances. A good rule of thumb is to tow no more than around 70% or so of your capacity on long trips. Max is okay for short distances but isn't a good idea to do regularly.

    I think leveling kits are silly. Reduces the utility of the truck - less fuel efficient, can't haul as much payload since the nose will now aim upward. Worst of all, I actually think they look worse than the stock rake of the truck.

      I strongly agree! To each their own, but I don't understand this whole "leveling" thing. All it does is make it look like you are hauling something when you are not. And when you do haul something, it looks silly because the rear is lower than the front like you overloaded. Makes the pickup look wimpy dragging the rear end like that. I see people pulling around little 5,000lb campers all the time and the rear is so squatted, you'd think it was a 15,000lb camper. Ha. Worst part is most that put on a leveling kit don't re-adjust their headlights and so drive around blinding all the other drivers.
      Rake on a pickup just looks right. Leveling kit doesn't look right and adds zero functionality. Some pickups have a level/rake sensor that determines how to proportion the front and rear braking because it assumes if the rear is down, you have more weight over the rear axle and it can apply larger percentage of the braking force to the rear axle. If someone puts on a leveling kit and doesn't correct that sensor, their brake bias will be off.
      As for a lift to fit larger tires, don't cheap out and do a "leveling kit" which only raises the front. Do it right and put a lift on the front and back.

      I like reverse level. Take out the rear lift blocks and put in shocks from a stock 2wd so it rides stock and it still has a bit of a rake

    This is probably one of the best reviews I've seen, thank you for posting! It sounds to me like this is a good truck overall. I think the fuel economy would hit the EPA mark if you took out the 0-60 tests and towing. As far as I know, EPA estimates don't include towing at all. If it was my truck, I would be more concerned about the overheating (seems to be a rare occurrence though) and the rust when it was so new. Otherwise it seems like it's been pretty good!

    Cool review. I have the weather tech mats in my 2016 Sierra. They cover my carpet and look great. Easy cleanup. Can't wait to see the larger tires and leveling kit. Hope it looks like the tremor 👍

    Interesting video. Ive had my PB for about 3 weeks now and so far I’m averaging around 25.6mpg with full ups showing about 760 miles to E using 87. I think Andre is wasting money putting premium gas in but that’s always a hot topic. Lol. Weather tech is their sponsor but I switched to Husky floor mats. Same made in USA, same lifetime warranty and half! The cost. No brainer there. This truck really is amazing. I look forward to driving it everyday.

    Thanks for finally not being Ford bias and giving us facts. But I do say your little harsh on the fuel mileage because owning a regular gas truck my Chevy gets 15mpg to 17mpg average. My buddy's Ram gets less then my Chevy. I been doing shit tons homework on Ford's trucks and I'm impressed hugely on the Ecoboost and now the Hybrid.

    Great, informative video! Unless you REALLY don't like the stance of the truck I would not get the leveling kit.... If you put weight in the back and/or tow you will be looking up at the shy and will look goofy. Just something to consider. Keep up with the great videos.

    What's disappointing to me is that I just bought a 2022 Powerboost and after two weeks it has developed a coolant leak from the exhaust side heat exchanger. This seems to be a known issue and I've read stories of many owners having the trucks parked on dealer service lots in excess of 30 days waiting for a replacement. I was hoping to be able to use this to power up a travel trailer, but now I'm just hoping that Ford can fix it or that an aftermarket replacement becomes available as I've little hope in Ford fixing the issue.

    Thanks Andre! You always do good reviews. I love the hybrid engine on a truck and I wish the F150 is priced lower, but no matter how many they sell, people keep buying them on that price point..

    My Powerboost let me down over the weekend towing 8k# camper through PA. I had the overheating issue in 46* temps and the truck was probably 1/4-1/3 normal power. My temp gauges were all within the normal range before, during and after it detuned itself. I was going 10mph at one point over a mountain with my foot to the floor. Lots of gremlins for $72,000!

    You bought the base model XL work truck. Bunch of your complaints in regards to the interior plastic, small crappy tires/wheels and large tow mirrors were your choice. I have a Lariat 502A and I'm quite happy with the truck. Only thing I'd really change is I prefer an all black interior and that wasn't available when I ordered so I have the dark brown upper dash and center arm rest. Not the end of the world but imo a black leather interior should always at least be an option.

    These late-model F-150s are just wonderful to own...mine is a 2016 XLT and whenever someone rides in the back they say it's like a limo. It's the best road trip vehicle ever....I just love it.

      @kolim jone I disagree, but to each their own. Battery technology is definitely the limiting factor at this time, but that's why we innovate...why we continue to solve new problems. Yes, there are nasty chemicals in current batteries, but it's a stepping stone to better solutions.

    Rather than taking the grille and trim off the front to change the headlight pop out two of the plastic rivets in front of the wheel well liner plastic and you can reach the bulbs. Replace the plastic rivets with the same size Dorman screw in plastic holders available from any auto supply store.

    Regarding dirt and scratches on the plastics, from my experience using the soft side of a sponge and soapy water makes those plastics look good as new.

    How could you be upset with 21mpg when you tow loads, off-road and do “racing” with it. That’s pretty damn good for your altitude and how you drive it

    got to love the hybrid over a total electric and a total gas/diesel because you get the twice the range of gas, and the instant power of electric, and twice the mpg at the pump. 😁😁👌👌

    I was thinking also along the same lines of just going with the 2.7TT. I had a 2016 when it didn't have port injection and the 10 speed (just had the 6 speed auto) and I found the performance and towing capability to be very good. I'd usually average around 11L/100km/21mpg around town with some highway. Towing a brick of a trailer (5,000lbs maybe) brought my mpg down a bunch, 7-10mpg depending on grade and if it was windy. Cost overall was great and one of my favorite trucks. I think when we heard there was going to be a hybrid F-150, that the fuel economy would be a lot better. Maybe the 2.7TT hybridized might have done it (where you typically hybridize a smaller engine).

    Good to know about the optional trailer mirrors. I assume they are not power fold on an XL trim? My Ram has trailer mirrors and folding them in is essential in most parking lots where the truck (mostly) fits.
