  • How to Make a Pillow Trap for Crayfish also called Crawfish, or Crawdad. Just need some plastic chicken fence, scissors, cable ties, also called zip ties or wire ties, and old metal hanger, something to cut the hanger with, and a screwdriver. The cost is right at $2.75 with tax each. Before making this video, this trap was selling on eBay for around $25 each.

    I have never heard of or seen this type of trap. You could have a dozen and squish them down into a small space or maybe roll them and use a bungee to secure the roll and it would take the space of one metal trap. I really like this simple trap! Thanks for sharing!

    Nicely done - almost identical to the ones we made and used in Louisiana when Raccourci Island flooded. We called em "mudbug pillows". With the right bait, in the right location, they are crawfish catching machines (especially if there's a little current).

      Catfood, you crack the lid open and peel it back a little but not all the way. It gives them something to keep them busy working at so they don't eat it all.

    Jason: I see you're still monitoring this, so...Have you had good catch rates? Have you used wire traps to compare? I ask because some claim the trap needs to emit an electrical current to fish well; obviously plastic won't produce current. If it catches well, that's great, no current = no corrosion! And wow, can't beat the cost. Nice design, nice vid. Thanks! - CJ

    • @tiggeroush
      @tiggeroush  6 лет назад

      Crawfish, or any fish look for food, that maybe an interesting one to test on the metal vs plastic idea. But depending on where you live, some states require the critters to be able to escape, like through a rust-able latch, if the trap is lost. Sorry, I do not have any metal traps to compare. The ones I made, for catching small fish, I gave away.

    I used to have fun trapping crayfish with a net behind them and a small stick in front watch them flap right into my net used to use them as bait for largemouth and smallmouth bass I stopped that practice when we got a huge cray and my young nice said please Uncle Tommy let him go I did and never trapped them again and have grown to love this species from the big Australian Cray's to the many species in North America never ate one won't even eat lobster I think it's the way they look they look like they belong in the age of dinosaurs or earlier and they are related to scorpions who scare the living beJesus out of me but in this country they are everywhere you can eat them three times a day everyone in this country and there will be be more just as many the next year so I'm okay with that I just don't watch people do it eat what you will I must admit I love flounder fillet steamer clams in melted butter and oysters on the half shell with all the right condiments and a cold beer so all you crayfish lovers knock yourselfs out
