Looks like I got lucky today, I noticed they had a couple more listed so I managed to order one 🙌🌴 Very excited for it to arrive now. Thanks for letting us know about these Jim!
If you are going to plant it between the Butia and the Washingtonia, you need to plant it slightly closer to the Washy as the Butia will grow outward like the Phoenix Palm and the Washy grows upward and not spreading out like the Butia - Just a tip.
I got one last year. I potted it up into a bigger pot. It’s been outside all winter. It has slight frost damage on some leaves but that’s it. It’s grown 2 leaves since last august 😊
I would dig out the circle in the lawn and have it as the focal point. You will be able to walk all round it and show it off. Iv been after one but just don't have room.
Got one of these last year and it handled the winter with ease even in the original pot, now pushing out new leaves. Big Plant Nursery now selling C. radicalis too so a great time right now if anyone wants to kick off their rare palm garden
Glad to hear yours done well over winter, gives me confidence in it's hardiness. Radicalis is also an excellent palm, I was lucky enough to get a clump last year in a swop 👍
Hi Jim. I think that palm looks to be in fantastic condition and the price seems quite reasonable to me considering how rare they are in the UK. Over here in the US a mule palm of that size would've cost $60-$80 four or five years ago at the big box stores. Today in my area ones that size run $350-$400 and can be even more than that, and they are readily available. I bet that Seller could have tacked on an additional 100 pounds and still had no issues selling them. Now as far as it being the hardiest mule I don't think that's true. 2022 we experienced -8C, 40 mph sustained winds and 60 hours below freezing. That killed all the mules (BO x SR), but it also killed all the Butia eriospatha people were growing including my own which was a decent size and quite established. Butia odoratas all survived and my own took zero damage. I think that claim we all have read about eriospatha being hardier is false and based on old inaccurate information. The evidence of the last few harsh winters over here has proven to the contrary. Butia odorata have taken some pretty extreme temps and survived, that is well documented. As well, people here who have grown Santa Catarina, Littoralis and the standard Queen have reported no difference in cold hardiness, so it seems to be either a sales gimmick or wishful thinking. I have all 3 of these types of queens and will be trialing them against one another, but so far the evidence doesn't support the claims. Either way you still got a great palm and I am happy for you. I would consider protecting below -5C and remember these grow into huge palms so give it a lot of space. Good luck!
All valid points, I will be treating it the same as my mountain queen. Interesting, I have a odorata and a eriospatha of the same size and age. The eriospatha went through last winter untouched however the odorata did get damaged. But are winter climate is to yours. On a different note, you must be a very busy man with that large garden to fill with palms 🙂
Beautiful palm! I have never seen one available over here before. Looks like I've missed out this time as there isn't any showing on their site 😢 Looking forward to seeing how it does for you and where you decide to plant it 👍
Lovely Palm Jim my 10ft - 12 ft queen Palm arrived yesterday I wish I had more money in the palm pot as I would have bought this today 😔 looking forward to see how it grows for you
@@jimspalmsuk5098 I ended up getting a couple of decent sized Butia odorata from him instead as felt they were more likely to survive in my east midlands garden. But still eyeing these up lol
I bought mine in the first slice then overwintered it in a conservatory over winter. Pretty static growth wise overwinter. I've bought it outside last week and plan to plant it out in a couple of weeks up here in the North East. The eriospatha up here has been tougher than the jubaea so I have high hopes for this. Good luck with yours Jim
@jimspalmsuk5098 For me, the eriospatha has been hands down the toughest feather palm here. Just got a needle palm so I'm sure that'll put do it for hardiness though
Thing with palms in pots vs ones in the ground is cold tolerance as palms in a pot tends to freeze alot easier than ones grown in the ground due to the soil mass. Lol learned from Experience 👍
@@jimspalmsuk5098 yes mate. Over the moon. It was a big decision and when I saw the price, I thought twice, but 5 minutes later, the purchase was done. Mine is in much the same condition as yours. Great vids, by the way.

I'm glad you managed to get one 👍 I'd imagine you can't wait for that delivery 😃
I just bought one from hardy Palms an hour ago , can’t wait for it to arrive
Well done, I'm pleased to see they are becoming more available. Very exciting 👍
Beautiful palm way out my price range for something I can't guarantee will be hardy where I live.
😻

Nice, I'm shore with time they should get bigger and hardier. Thanks for the info 👍
What's your care treatment with it being in a pot, watering/feeding etc?
@@stuebarb2024 liquid seaweed once a week and palm focus once a month. Keep well watered in the hot weather.
@@jimspalmsuk5098 How are you're Butiagrus getting on ?
@stuebarb2024 There doing well, I did do a update in last weeks video "palms in pot's " 👍
Congrats on ya purchase :0) Looks fantastic bro
Yeah, I'm really pleased to finally have one 👍

Yeah, still thinking about it 🤔
I got mine also in the autumn and I planted it straight away...Took - 6 on a couple of occasions last winter with no damage. 😊
Excellent, very good to now👍
The lawn area will have to go. There is no way you won't keep buying plants and they have to go somewhere 😂.
Your right, but the wife likes the lawn. She's not the one how as to cut it 🙂

You lucky man - I would love to have one of these, but unfortunately we don't have these in New Zealand. The ultimate cold hardy tropical Palm.
It's been a long time coming, they are very hard to get hold of in the uk 😃
Where in Spain, please

you can drag a potted palm into a shed during nights of frost though. 😂
@sd4568 not ideal long term tho did this with a couple of potted Washies both ended up fried! 😳

I'd say it would need winter protection in zone 7 ? Always worth trying 👍

Hardy palms, they don't have many different palm's. But they have some unusual ones now and then👍
