- I have never owned an actual pair of mountain biking shoes. Up until now I have been making do with either my hiking shoes, or my skate shoes. Neither of them were giving me much confidence while on the singletrack so I figured it was time to invest in some proper mountain bike kicks.
After some research I settled on the Adidas Five Ten Trailcross Mid Pro shoes. I just got them a few days ago, but unfortunately it’s been raining all week so I haven’t had chance to ride with them yet. In this video I break down why I decided to get these shoes and talk about all the great features that they offer.
If there’s something about these shoes that I don’t talk about be sure to hit me up in the comments and I’ll definitely chime in.

Have you had a chance to try out the Five Ten Trailcross Mid Pro shoes yet? What’s your go to shoe for mountain biking?
Running the Giro Terradura but have a pair of Shimano SH-AM902’s on the way. You ever consider switching over to the dark side from flats?
NTX Trance Clippless scares the crap out of me at the moment. Maybe once my skills progress more I’ll jump to the dark side.
Haha all good, took me four years of riding flats until I made the switch but I’ll never go back.
On sale everywhere now. Mine actually weigh 522 grams for a sz 14. Great shoes, great review. Thank You!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
8:28 You made great point about the gaiter. But if gaiter is not snug enough you can tie the shoe laces around it the loops on front and rear will help with keeping the laces there. or you could get an elastic Velcro strap.
Good ideas. It’s not super snug, but snug enough to keep stuff out for me. Once I started wearing them to ride it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting.
I've been curious about these shoes vs the low cut version, and i appreciate the Gaitor feature. The D30 material also sounds like a welcomed addition to the overall design.
Being someone that plans to ride with the family, I'm glad I stumbled across your channel.
Sub'd! and thanks for sharing.
p.s. Was an update review ever made?
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Glad that it was useful. I never did a follow up review. I have been happy with them and they have held up well over the last 3 seasons. I plan to use them this season as well since I don’t see a need to replace them yet. They’ve been comfortable and I have no complaints.
Perfect. I just ordered a pair on sale. Green though, which I've never seen before.
Awesome! I hope they work out for you!
How strong is the toe box?I currently have a broken toe from mountain biking and I'm looking for a shoe that will prevent it from happening again
It seems to be strong and I would guess that it is strong enough to provide ample protection. I have crashed a couple times wearing them, but I don’t know if the toe box was a factor.
What about toe protection, Are they good? Thanks a lot
Ya, toe area feels really solid and after 2 seasons of use I’ve never had an issue.
@@AitchYXE Thanks a lot !!
Is this shoe stiff enough to transfer power to the peddles
Ya, they are quite stiff.
Where did you find them? I've been looking for them for 7 months
Ya, they are super hard to find. I couldn’t find them locally so I started looking online. I got super lucky. A place out of Quebec had one pair left and it was fortunately in my size. The place was call PRFO - www.prfo.com
My friend who lives in LA couldn’t find them ether. I wonder if there was a manufacturing slowdown due to COVID-19?
@@AitchYXE I found 1 right before they went rare it was a size 12 and I'm a 12.5... did not want to risk it lol
What’s the little tab on the outer heel for?
I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to, but I presume it is just part of the design. There isn’t anything functional in that area.
Durability? and hot summer?
They’ve held up really well over 2 seasons of riding. Pretty much look like new, other than being dirty. Treads are a bit worn, but not near a point where I would replace yet. I don’t typically ride in wet or muddy conditions, so I can’t comment from that perspective.
I’m not sure what you mean by “hot summer”. If you’re wondering if they get too hot, it hasn’t been a problem for me.
Hope that helps.
@@AitchYXE Thanks for the info. I often ride in summer close to 95. I don't know if it would be too hot for the shoes.
I’ve ridden at that temperature, although it is not often. My feet typically are the last thing I feel to be burning up. But I think that varies from person to person.
How's the fit for you? Heard it's 1/2 size larger
I usually wear a size 10 or 10.5 for most brands of shoes. I got the size 10 and they fit perfectly. From a few things I read and watched, it seems that the Trailcross shoes are a 1/2 size larger than other Five Ten shoes. So if you know your Five Ten size they suggest sizing down. This was my first pair of Five Tens so I can’t compare.
