This playing is GLORIOUS. It's superb - and world class. IMO pianist Riyoko Takagi is of the same caliber as Keith Jarrett, Lyle Mays, Taylor Eigsti, Josh Nelson, Shai Maestro, Eldar Djangirov, McCoy Tyner, John Taylor or Geri Allen. Perhaps even a step beyond these guys. I am truly astonished, and so grateful to have found such an inspirational pianist, working with two wonderful musicians. Frankly, I'm gob-smacked.
@@mariuspoppFM there are countless cute girls playing piano on the Internet who have many simps but in Riyoko's case there is no exaggeration, she's actually musically gifted and started playing piano at age 4, entered Yamaha music school at age 4-5 (not specified), there had a first concert recital at 7, first televised concert of original compositions at 12 (all of this is backed with photos by the way) and completed Yamaha music conservatory at composition level before she got to high school, and that's all of music education she ever had, the rest was hard work on her own figuring out and improvising Jazz for 20 years, she absolutely destroys over 99% of musicians with fancy music college diplomas and fancy instructors, get this: Riyoko easily passed a difficult entrance exam to the Yamaha music school at age 4-5 or 2-3 years younger than Hiromi Uehara who entered the same Yamaha music school at 7, Riyoko is even more gifted than Hiromi when I found Riyoko's channel and listened to a few performances I had my suspicions that she's gifted but after listening to her "Petals of Memory" improvisation (translated from Japanese), I was sure she's a genius and just needed evidence and it's all out there on the web, her story - including photos backing her musical journey as a young child
@@mariuspoppFM I've seen Tim's comments under other Jazz channels on RUclips and he's very objective and says it like it is and knows what he is talking about, have you heard all of Riyoko's performances on RUclips? do you know that there are a lot more of her live Jazz performances under her Japanese name and uploaded under other RUclips channels, property either of venues with watermarks on videos or someone who recorded them? there are whole 2-hour shows out there even, I'm still cataloging everything and not close to be done but there's easily over 50 links to other channels I gathered so far including high-quality TV broadcast footage, and the fact that she literally learned Jazz on her own by listening and improvising along to Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett records since she was 17, so what Tim is hearing in her playing isn't far off the reality and reflects her Jazz influences, if you don't think Riyoko is world-class Jazz pianist with broad musical spectrum then maybe you haven't heard enough of her playing or biased by her channel content, actually there's a good reason for that too, I know how it could throw someone off and instill initial bias (it did for me too, I won't lie but it also made me want to figure out why there's such stark contrast in her music and I did get to the bottom of it), everything she's ever done in her career was to popularize Jazz to new younger generation audiences because when she was younger and started playing in Jazz lounges after high school, she noticed it was mostly older mature folks who enjoy Jazz and there weren't any younger people in the audience so she tried something different and sacrificed her early image as a Jazz musician, she knew it would happen too and doesn't regret anything she's done, today she achieved her initial goal (all you have to do is just check translated Japanese comments on socials and customer reviews of her albums on Amazon), today she's the most popular Jazz pianist in Japan and selling out live shows, performing on TV twice a week (THE TIME program on TBS) and FM radio as well, check her social media and you will see all her successes and how busy is her schedule and all her shows are sold out in advance, if the music wasn't great none of it would have worked beyond RUclips but that's not the case
