In the mario franchise, they dont drown, so none mario characters would have "drowned" but sonic characters could had drown easily so that had some mistakes.
This is bizarrely violent for a Mario and Sonic crossover. If you think about it Shadow takes Yoshi's head off of Yoshi, Sonic separates Peach's limbs, Tails and Knuckles get burned by Bowser's fire, etc.
You know, I loved how the battle turned out and that it ended with a tie to help keep some of the fans from both sides from raging against each other after the video.

We also know that the Super Forms can be disrupted with enough force (Look at Sonic 3 and Knuckles where Knuckles managed to hit Sonic Hard enough to force him to drop the chaos emeralds and his super form). It also would have been endless regardless as (despite bowser seemingly dying in this fight) We know that canonically, Bowser (like Ganondorf) Always comes back. Like we've seen Bowser fall into a collapsing Galaxy. Only to wake up in a new galaxy formed by Rosalina
