- AARSHIN KARANDE, senior disciple of Mewati Gharana luminary SANDEEP RANADE "NAADRANG," offers a rendition of Raga Ahir Bhairav on the occasion of Gaan Saraswati Kishori Amonkar's birthday (April 10th). This bandish was written and composed by Kishori-tai.
Raga Ahir Bhairav is a medieval raga compounding the desi raga Ahiri, a synthesis of ragas Bhairavi and Kagi, and the margi raga Bhairav. This dynamic scale is often employed with shades of other ragas like Bageshri, Bhairavi, and Sarang. Raga Ahir Bhairav remains one of the most popular morning ragas today.
This raga and bandish are presented humbly as an offering to the genius of Gaan Saraswati Kishori Amonkar.
LYRICS:
नैनवा बरसे सगरी दिन रैना ।
पिया बिन कल नाहीं चैन ।१।
कौन जतन कहो पिया घर आये ।
फुल बिछाऊँ मोरे अंगना ।२।
TRANSLATION:
The speaker says, "My eyes have rained tears all day and night. Peace escapes me in the absence of my beloved. Who should know the struggle of bringing my beloved home. Awaiting my beloved, my body is adorned with flowers."
