    The mental gymnastics to vote for Trump is unreal

    • @fatesrequiem
      @fatesrequiem Месяц назад

      It always comes down to “I’m a Republican and because I’m a Republican I vote for the Republican because I can’t vote for the Democrats. They’re evil.” Which means the Republicans can do anything in their eyes and not lose their vote. Also, often, deep down there’s usually another reason that they don’t say. Racism, sexism, or just liking Trump but not wanting to admit it because he’s awful and they know it.

      Heh? While what he said was grotesque I’m not sure what you listened to, as it was very clear with very little gymnastics. He is a single issue voter on Abortion and the Republican Party will always be the best reflection of that. You can criticise him for many things, but mental gymnastics is far from one of them.

      @@KDG702 I really don't think there is any mental gymnastics or fallacious reasoning in @Thetallesgirrafe's comment. It is very straightforward. It is not at all an endorsement of Mohler's views.
      Mohler is a single issue voter who will vote according to his beliefs on this single issue. Even though I wholeheartedly disagree him on that issue (and even if I didn't I would never vote for Trump), I recognize that there's no hypocrisy of mental gymnastics involved in that. If anything, being a single issue voter is too simplistic.

Meanwhile, under this preachers paradigm adult women and girls are free to suffer and die for lack appropriate medical care. Their right to life is infringed. There's a BIG difference between 1) acknowledging no candidate is perfect and 2) choosing to vote for an EVIL candidate (even if they are a "lesser" evil---which I don't think it true of Trump, anyway!). So no, I don't think the lesser of two evils political philosophy is appropriate for those who claim to follow Jesus. Rather, I urge Evangelicals to vote only for someone who has (at least) decent policies, decent character, and sufficient skill/experience. Voting "faithfully" is so much more important than voting "effectively", if that "more effective vote" means partnering not just with imperfection, but actually with EVIL.
