If you have a Narrowboat in the areas where Adam works. It might pay you to put his contact details in your diary, in case you need a Sign Writer in the future! His contact details are in the video description above!
I started work with a Civil Engineering Contractor back in the 1960s and all their trucks cranes and sites name boards were sign written, it was fascinating to watch the guy work. The sign writer would come to site and he drove a three wheeler van based on an old motorcycle that was an event on it's own. One of the 7ton trucks I drove has been restored and finished in the company's livery, it looks great. You might be able to find it on RUclips. Chas Brand & Sons Ltd. The truck was an ERF built late 50s early 60s ?? She was a beast to drive. The company built most of the Victoria Line tube. It was great Adam let you film him working and taking the time to explain his craft. Another memory just came to mind, My Uncle had the job of painting the gold lines on limos and other high class cars. He told me the brush hairs were about 4inches long and he would draw the brush through the paint on a pallet. Stay safe mate and thanks for posting.
It was great to film Adam. It made me wish that I would have done something like that when I left school. I have seen some pictures of a restored Tractor that he painted up which was impressive! Look after yourself Vince.
This was brilliant, fantastic to see this talented young man, his work is stunning and so happy to chat about his background and work. Really excellent. Thanks again Vince for making this video! All the best.
Hey thanks Vince, very interesting. I had an english teacher (Mr Spillman) at school who taught us writing skills and part of that was sign writing. He taught us how to do the shadows to make the words stand out. I enjoyed watching Adam, it brought back memories. Lots of love Vince. XXX
He was very interesting! Wished that I had them lessons at my school, perhaps I would have ended up with a different trade. As I would love to be able to do that for a living! love Vince xxx
Very interesting, and something not shown on most narrowboat vlogs, well done. By the way the simple way to remember your port from your starboard is Port and Left have 4 letters, and Starboard and Right have the most letters. Seemed to have worked to teach young sailors their direction aboard ships.
Cool Vlog!! Seems to be always something interesting going on around the canals!! Love that you ask all the right questions!! That is talent in itself!! Thank you Vince!! Have a fantastic week!!
What a talented person. So clever in the way they produce those letters to stand out . . . It always fascinates me. Thanks for sharing Vince and looking forward to seeing you have a go at it 😆
@@markrutter5996 I'm ok thanks Mark! Just as we came out of Lockdown the engine broke down. Fixed now so should have some stuff to film soon! Cheers Vin!
Hi Vince. Really enjoyed your vlog as usual. It was so interesting to watch the skill of the sign writer and lets us know what else goes on on the canals. Adam was very skilful in what he does and very patient. Show us more of what goes on around you. It was also very good that the boat owner let you film.
Michelangelo used that same system of pinpricks and chalk marks--if it ain't broke, don't fix it, eh? Thanks to you and to Adam for a look at an interesting skill.
He is very exacting, isn't he? I have always wondered where most boat names come from. Maybe that is a silly question like where do children's names come from? Interesting video and it was interesting to see him measure the depth of the shadow. I have never done that. Not that I am a sign writer or anything. Lettering on a much smaller scale. If the video is not mirrored, then you were correct in saying that he had started on the starboard side last. Left and port are both 4 letter words. That's the best way I know to remember. Nice video! Thanks!!
@@veedeegeepee8762 I get that, but there is NO shadow under the Bar (thats the middle bit between the 2 legs) of the letter R. Reversed shadow doesnt effect the fact that it is missing from under the bar.
Hello Debbie, I'm working on a vid at this exact moment. With a bit of luck it should be out on Tuesday morning, hope I see a nice comment from yourself (only if it's any good) Vin x

@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle So...sadly as an old grump...I have to be polemic about it. Whilst as a North Londoner I recognise, adore, share and support your way of speaking; but bad usage is still bad usage. wanted to see the 1st side again (port) to see if he finished the shadow under the bar of the letter 'R'
If you go to 11.17 in the vid you should be able to see it!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle Yeah, its missing. The shadow on the BAR between the two legs is totally missing but it is present on the other side.
