Love how you brought up that students need to know what it's like to be out and have a winner. The idea that everybody is a winner is ridiculous and is a disservice to children. You're definitely brave doing it on the first day!
Hi Becca! A little confused about Poison--so you pick a pattern to be Poison, show them what it is? (how--demonstrate? notated on the board? both?) And then go through a series of patterns (body percussion) that they repeat (like Simon Says), and throw in the poison pattern ? If they repeat it, they are out? Is that the gist? Just trying to picture how the game flows, it sounds super fun!
Yes! I pick a pattern, write it on the board and we practice it a few times. Then I say, "Don't ever do it again!" after that, once the game starts, they repeat everything EXCEPT that pattern.
+Becca's Music Room Well Becca, I go to a summer camp for special needs people for a week every summer and have been doing so since 1992. Let me put it like this. Unlike in schools where you the teacher are in this dilemma of meeting the needs of the children and playing along with "the man" and having to take grades and data, summer camp is less of that being controlled by "the man" and more about what works with the children so yes there you go with teaching summer camp. If I could have been a fly on a wall I'd bet that those campers loved you. - Dwight

I loved all of these ideas, thank you for helping me to refresh my first day lessons!

Agreed! Our school created some lessons plans that I modified for music :}
Do you find the kids stop jumping on the rest during Kirisu Chon? Haven't tried it yet but am anticipating this will happen.
wheres the kids in action?❤
Love these ideas! Is there a TPT link for Jump in Jump out? I didn’t see it in the description.
