Love to see chargers at ski/board areas! There is no charging at Mount Baker since the only power is from diesel generators. They are working on the idea of electric motors to run chair lifts as well as powering the lodges. I went up with my dog just before the snow came and was able to regen about 63 miles on the way back down from the end of the road above the ski area. That many miles of regen was a welcome surprise since there's no charging from the mountain back to my house, about 55 miles. l have a 2017 Bolt.
Thanks for highlighting the Frisco EA station and the issue, Max! That station is cursed. Summit County has a lot of work to do to prepare for the arrival of the electric vehicles.
My experience with the Bolt is that it actually goes up and down mountains pretty efficiently. I once took mine on a winter snowshoeing trip with similar distance and elevation as Denver to Breckenridge. Leaving home at 100%, I ended up completing the entire trip without any charging stops, and still got back home at 30%. However, this was a trip that, when I first bought the car, I was not sure I would be able to make it, and it took over a year of repeatedly driving the car into the mountains for hiking trips, with gradually increasing distances and elevation before I felt confident enough to trust it for this trip. Mass level 2 at the resort eliminates the need to think about range, and allows someone who just bought the car and doesn't have a good feel for how far it can go up mountains in winter to be able to take it out and go skiing, right away. A benefit which cannot be under-appreciated.
There's no major roller coaster park close enough to home for a round trip in my new Bolt. But there are 4 major parks within range one way. A 7-hour level 2 charge while I'm at the park should save me the trouble of fast charging on the road. 55 KW fast charging is the first complaint about the Bolt.
Mount Snow Vermont is 170 miles away from my home… I live at sea level in Fairfield Connecticut and travel uphill at 75 miles per hour, with heat on, in the winter… My EPA range is 303 miles but I only have 30 miles in the tank when I get to the ski area. That would be terribly devastating for my ride home… I obviously couldn’t make it 170 miles downhill under any conditions. I could probably make it 50 miles. But, Mount Snow has nine EV charging stations, level two, slow, but perfect for my drive home. I get to the charging stations at 9 AM latest to ensure I get a spot… Only one time in a dozen times were the stations full and even that time, a car finished charging and I just unplugged it and plugged mine in at about 10:30 AM and made it home, no problem, after charging for four or five hours. I have sent Vail a couple emails asking for more chargers…… I believe they realize, “build it and they will come and spend money”
Love this video as I'm at an EA on my way to skiing, closest charging to my mountain is 30 miles, but in the direction i go its about 60 miles. Hoping they'll install some level 2 or even level 1 in the parking lots.
The ski hills in my province don't have charging onsite, but there are chargers (DCFC & Tesla & Level 2) close enough to each that I can easily still go skiing without much worry. I do find that my Model 3 LR 2021 battery state of charge drops upto 5% while parked at the hill in a 6 to 8hr day so I have to be sure to have a buffer. Then when I set it to precondition through the app while riding the ski lift one last time, I'll lose upto 1%.
Hey, I’m a Boulderite like yourself and have just picked up a 2022 performance. Would love any insight on best winter tire, car is shipping up from Texas and has the Continental Sportcontact 7 which is really a summer tire. Thanks
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth...... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
Love the "viking" guy explaning EVs to Max, "I get energy going down hill.." LOL.

L2 charging at ABasin, too. That's the dream.

Max, thank you for this content. Very interesting.

Ohhhh Frisco!!! Let's see it 😂

ah the joys of driving electric...I can't even get to Idaho Springs in my old LEAF
An untapped market is L2 charging at > 32 amps. Getting 8 kW or more for 4 hours while busy shopping for the afternoon would go a long way.

Good video, for sure destinations like ski resorts should have 19.2kw charging. This idea of charging at the destination makes perfect sense.
