I've seen nearly all of these paintings before, either in history books or internet searches, but it's just dawned on me that these are the originals 🤯
It is so true that to see the paintings in person is so different than seeing them in a book. I was fortunate to see the Tudor exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art last year. It’s was an amazing experience.
Thank you so much, Jessica. You had a lot of history to cover, a very admirable job. Once again, the paintings were allowed to speak and be marveled at. Wow from Colorado USA.
Another incredible video -- thank you! I've always felt so sorry for Lady Jane Grey. She didn't want the throne, but it was forced upon her, leading to her execution. She was a little, innocent pawn in a horrific battle for power. P.S. You should read the play "Elizabeth Rex" by Canadian author Timothy Findley. I think you'd find it fascinating :)
I have heard that Mary considered the burning of heretics a religious obligation. She felt it would be a betrayal of her faith if she failed in that duty. I am not saying I applaud her for that conviction, but only that it was not done solely for malicious entertainment. I think I have not encountered any faith on this planet that has never stooped beneath the standard of basic human decency.
Was Robert Dudley's father executed by Queen Mary I? Based on the TV series "Becoming Elizabeth", Robert Dudley's father was against Queen Mary 1 and made her life miserable.

It’s surreal to see them in person!

Always a lovely tour. Thanks Jessica. I second your idea of an Elizabethan spy show haha
I wish! 🤣

Hi Jessica, I love your videos and would love to have a private tour with you at National Gallery. Please let me know if its possible.
Hello! I just had a baby 3 weeks ago, so I won’t be guiding until April. :)
Congratulations! @@TheMuseumGuide
Elizabeth is not cold looking, just direct look..no wall flower here..just Les majesties.
You are right!
It's interesting that all of Queen Elizabeth's favorites were executed whether by her or by her predecessor.
Other than Dudley, of course!
@TheMuseumGuide She nearly executed him but love prevailed. ❤️. Too bad her father didn't know what this meant
They all did kings and queens, not just the Tudors.
@@nancytestani1470 Not as much as King Henry and Queen Elizabeth I 🔪🪦
Yes the term we use in England is "crowned". The English language not American slang.
There are no Americans in this video.
36:00 they were roommates lol
Nudge nudge wink wink

Yes, and his grandfather Edmund Dudley was executed by Henry VIII at the beginning of his reign!
@@sheiladay567 I think the Norfolk's suffered the same fate 🗡
Mary of Scotlands downfall was her impulsive nature.

Some sort of technological error on my part, apologies
RIP Queen Mary 1, Queen Catherine of Aragon and Queen Mary of Scots #catholic
PLEASE don't use that silly expression "Coronated". The term to use is "Crowned". This is on a par with "Gifted" instead of "Presented".
That’s a matter of opinion; I prefer it to crowned but I’m fine with either. Thank you for watching!
