Absolutely wonderful and superior little film of Rudy's earlier start in his career. Just wish they hadn't used so much makeup on his beautiful face! :O Geez!! Such beautiful looks to have it all covered up like a clown. Regardless, his pure talent showed through like the rare star he was. Rest in Peace Silent Angel
I KNOW!!! SUCH chemistry!! They were friends in real life, and it totally shows!! The director prob cut to the chase with fast motion as was the practice of the time. Mae was beautiful and rudy was beautiful and a wonderful actor!
I LOVE it!! Rudy and Mae Murray are tremendous together--what great chemistry!! I think Rudy had a genuine attraction for Mae, at least it seems that way to me. Rudy truly shines in this early movie. He has a commanding presence in every scene. I love how he did his own fight scenes. My only complaint is for the car chase scenes that were filmed in fast motion, or were maybe later edited by the studio/director to play at a speeded up pace. Awesome work, as always, Deb. :-)

I know he wanted to to do better pictures, but he may have been a lot happier in the long run doing fun pictures without he pressure of becoming a big sex symbol and having to be picked on for his ethnicity and masculinity...and getting involved with the "arty" Rambova....a week before he died he sought out H.L. Mencken who told him to let all the 'powder puff' stuff go but he couldn't...and Mencken said that he was very unhappy...Rudy said he was no longer in control of his life....Very sad....such pressure, perforated ulcers and a broken heart....
Yes, it is sad. There was much jealousy with Rudy from other men over his success. Rudy did want to make movies not just for women, but movies that men would admire and take him seriously. I don't know how he would have done in talkies. Some said his accent was just slight, but who knows. His talent was just starting to develop really, and he no doubt would have became a much better actor. What is amazing is that he was here for such a short time, and yet he made such an impact. He was one of the first true Hollywood stars! He is alive in that next world we go to, and I'm sure he is aware of everything. Take care. :)
