September 1983 I’m at Franklin Marshall college playing hoops outside. I go around to the indoor gym which had sliding doors that opened to the outside. I walk in with my buddy and the sixers are practicing. I sat down on the floor watching them. A couple balls bounce my way and I retrieve them handing them back to Doctor J and Maurice cheeks. I asked Mr Erving if we could sit here and watch. He said boys stay as long as you want. Just help retrieve the balls. Let me tell ya that was pure joy. Believe me I knew the greatness I was watching. But more than just the talent it was the kindness of those great sixers back then.
I used to go F&M college to watch sixers practice all the time each year it was great n was disappointed when they moved practice to West Chester PA. or wherever it was from that point on.
Doug Collins tells the following story: *_"One day in practice when I was coaching the Bulls I called Michael over to the basket. He came running over and I told him to stand out of bounds behind the backboard, and then jump up from a standstill and dunk. He said, "Why do you want me to do that?" I replied, "Oh, because Doc used to do it all the time in practice and I wanted to see if you could do it." Mike grabbed the ball out of my hands, stepped out of bounds behind the basket, jumped up to dunk it, and couldn't do it. He tried it over and over again but got rejected by the rim each time. Finally, he threw the ball in disgust and left the gym."_*

Dr J is a class act.
The flyest player from NY.. I met him about 20 years ago in Roosevelt field mall... I was starstruck his Aura was like none other
Doc was and still is basketball, and it's a travesty that the NBA refuses to incorporate ABA stats because he is one of a select few in the 30,000 club. I'm glad I witnessed his legendary career from beginning to end.
NBA should give all former players a team and let their Pension come from that franchise. Now what city they will play out of is a different question. I hear they talking about putting some new franchise together.
I feel the same as you Shaq. He is the GOAT!!! And, that was my all time favorite movie. My daughter laughs at me when I watch it. I know it verbatim!!!
The original who walked on air
Maybe it’s just me but:
WTF does nobody list their criteria when naming the GOAT?
A true basketball guy! His skill level was out of this world, young fans, and players need to rewind the tapes and watch what he did! He paved the way for all these millionaires, respect!👑
He was okay. Stop hyping him.
Dr J always reminded me of Denzel Washington. Same type of character.
Such a weird thing to say
Title is incorrect
The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh!!! Dr. J showed Jordan Games.
Doc has been and allways will be my favorite nba player.

In 2025 can goat debates die
and we just individually give people their flowers.
Dr J was my favorite growing up. Been a Sixers fan ever since. It killed me to admit that Larry Bird was better but by 84-85 it was undeniable. The Dr is still my favorite though.
A 34 DrJ vs a Prime Larry..the stats between these two prior to 84 tell a different story..
Doc is the true GOAT.
Jordan upgraded the game
He has something the “goats” don’t. Peace of mind.
Grown man i don't have time for nonsense
Seems to me that Dr J spent his prime years in the ABA.
The greatest 76er of all time and one of the coolest guys you'll ever see
Shaq don't try to steal my idiol and my movie. That's my favorite movie of all time.😊
Dr J was a one man wrecking crew in the 70s
