Actually it's not. Devialet is push push configuration with the bass radiators using two powered bass drivers. The DB1 uses a single powdered bass radiator with two passive radiators. And a lot less power. The Devialet and the DB1 are both using coaxial speakers in the center. They are both shaped the way they are because they are using similar, but not quite the same principle. They're both using internal pressures in a small spherical enclosure to produce high output bass levels. The Devialet however is much more powerful in the bass region with the main differences being power and the Devialet using much more internal pressure to develop deeper bass. The Devialet also benefits from hybrid class A/D amplification while the DB1 is using class D only. As well I'm pretty sure the DB1 is using a single amplifier to power everything while the Devialet uses separate amplification for the bass drivers and the coaxial drivers. But the shape they are using with this principle is necessary. It's why such a small speaker can produce high volume and deep bass. The Devialet however can do so with zero distortion while the DB1 is .05. Not that it matters much. Tuning that distortion is as important as the lack of distortion. So...Similarities yes, but a rip off? No. With the just released Devialet Mania, there are of coarse four Mid/High drivers, but the bass driver configuration is the same as the rest of Devialet's speaker line. As far as the configuration, UB+ has been using this configuration for quite awhile now, but not in this specific way with the DB1. For this, it's new, with the exposed driver covers, whereas their older models had grills covering the cone drivers with no driver deflection covers. If there's anything that may have been influenced by Devialet is the look of the exposed coaxial drivers. But if you are going coaxial with mid highs, you have no choice but to be centralized like that. KEF and any Andrew Jones designed speakers have been using that configuration for years, albeit not in a spherical chassis.
@@DEFKNIGHT well with that explanation definitely YES. Thanks for all the interesting technicalities, that make it crystal clear that the optical resemblance of a Devialet speaker - colouration, central speaker mesh, lack of grills over the sides etc. - is not due to technical / physical necessities but instead to blatantly copy an excellent product in the most uninspired way. These speakers in the video are utter trash.
Thank you for the disclosure that you give about being able to give a negative critique. As a “recovering journalist” my respect for your reviews (which were already WAY up there) just shot up higher. ❤
"outlandish design". You mean the near identical design of devialets phantom line? Like not knocking the speaker, let's just not ignore the pink elephant in the room.
Hi Patrick, you did not mention Air Play 2 and Wifi support. How is the sound quality compared to the newly announced Devialet Mania? Can you review Devialet Mania in the near future? Appreciate your balanced review as always.
They don't even compare. That's like putting a Kia soul against a Lamborghini huracan in performance. Comparing it against say Harmon kardons onyx studio line, it's decent. The bass doesn't go as low as it's hyped up to be and not as low as HK. Highs are clear and just like every other speaker in existence it has good midbass.
I will only buy another Bluetooth speaker if it comes from Apple not happy with other brands I would like a portable HomePod mini, perhaps with the beats branding beats pod I don’t know
Ouch... looks like they've taken the Devialet Phantom and The Devialet Mania and made their own breed of VERY SIMILAR speaker. This is literally that. Doesnt help when you put them on the 3 legs. I thought Devialet had patents for this kind of speaker?.. looks like a dangerous game making that similar speaker alongside a big french brand.
Please please. Which one is better? Devialet Mania or dB1 DOUBLEBASS??? Also dB1 DOUBLEBASS or Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 6, 7 and 8??? Is there any possiblity of you to get these speakers and test them all???
Is this Devialet? Otherwise this is the most blatant rip-off if I ever saw one.
LOL exactly.
same thoughts
From China, possibly😂😂😂

The Phantom design is going to be plagiarised like nobody's business.
