      @@KarleeHayes-f4r ...except that it ignores several vital factors and overdose others.
      For example, domestic cats have very individual personalities which need to be respected at all times.
      The idea that leaving food available for 'on demand' feeding necessarily leads to obesity is not supported by actual evidence: It may be true for some, but others will only help themselves to small amounts as they wish throughout the day and not put on excessive fat.
      Likewise, sleeping all day is a very individual thing where one will 'cat nap' intermittently during the day and another will sleep for 18 hours straight.

      @@DrakeN-ow1im So true on both counts. I always left food out for my various numerous cats over the yrs. & not a one of them was a pound or 2 over what they were supposed to weigh. A cat is not like a dog -- a dog will eat just about anything & everything -- including sox, spoons, etc. & that's why it's so easy to give a dog medication -- not so with a cat --- if they smell something they don't like they will not eat it no matter how much you try to disguise it. So too for the sleeping issue. Every animal of every species is an individual.

    I have always left kibble out 24/7. In addition, my kitties get wet food at dinner time, and squeeze-up treats whenever they ask, throughout the day. I have never had an overweight cat, nor one who eats simply out of boredom.
    Incidentally, as of this post, my indoor only kitty turned 18 four months ago. Other than epileptic seizures since she was seven, she’s never been sick a day in her life. 🙏🏼

      I suspect you have good enrichment for your cats if you've never had one overeat. It's common for cats to have eating problems, when food is left out 24/7, but there are ways to counteract it. I leave food out and keep an eye on weight. Feeding too infrequently can be problematic too. I knew a car who got insecure about her food and started eating until she threw up and then eating more. A slow feeder helped, but making sure she could always get food and was reassured helped way more.

      My cat always has dry food and some treats and water. I give her wet food once a day and it's prevented food issues. My mom only feeds hers once a day and it eats fast and eats everything and pukes. 😂 I think access is important since it's never deprived or going hungry so it doesn't gorge like her cat does.

      Every cat is a personality of their own. I got one cat who never overeats and another that does. The latter used to be the junior w an older cat who binged and then moved on to his bowl before he was done. Now he has been trying to o the same once senior. But now he goes for the baby miss’ food as soon as shes done. He is lucky she is fuzzy. Once i had a cat who stole all 3 cats food in the household if given chance. She was still tiny.

    Over our adult lifetimes, my wife and I have been owned by no-less-than ten cats. My wife and I are approaching end-of-life and are now looking for a suitable environment for our three-cats. We've had four of our cats achieve twenty-two calendar years in age. Our cats are treated as co-habitants in our home. One of our neutered-male cats, named "CAT", lived to the ripe-old-age of twenty-five years and eight months. Even in his old age he was frisky.
    My wife and I love to go camping in Virginia's forests, and we try to take our cats along with us. They are all halter and leash trained, and walk along side of us as we explore the established pathways of the forests. Upon arriving home our cats undergo a change in attitude (or catatude). Fortunately for us, their sadness abates within a couple of days back home.
    Great video! Please, keep them coming!

    I leave out a bowl of Hill's Science Diet dry food all the time for my indoor cat, Kismet, because I live alone. I figure if I'm ever in an accident, and can't return home right away, at least he has that along with his large water bottle nearby. I adopted him as a kitten in August of 2014 and have always done it. I feed him wet food every morning, now mixed with about 6 teaspoons of water that has (generic) Miralax in it. He started having some constipation issues in late 2020 which the vet attributed to his somewhat narrow colon. I prepare a large resealable plastic container of this solution every few weeks. It helps him have very productive poops and also provides extra water in his diet. I do keep his water container separated from his food bowls because that's what cats prefer. I took him in for his first-ever dental cleaning last April. The vet said his teeth and gums were fine. He has otherwise been very healthy, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll still be around for at least another decade. He's a very smart and loving cat who always gets excited whenever I have friends visiting my house. One person who has three cats once told me he wished his cats were as sweet and friendly as Kismet is. I'm 70 and have always been healthy, never having spent as much as a night in the hospital my entire life, so I feel very lucky having Kismet as my companion.

    My cats actually like scented litter and have been using it regularly without problems ever since I had a blind cat who couldn't find his way to the box, prompting me to get scented to see if that made a difference (and it did because he could smell it then). Basically the kind of litter you get will be different based on your specific cat. Every cat is like a person, they have preferences. It's up to YOU to find what your cat likes and stick to that because cats like and thrive on routine.

Even without scented litter, normal litter has a scent, not to mention pee and poo…very strange….I mean it worked for you so that’s good but I find it strange….could he not find anything else in your home? Cos he had to find his bed and find his way to each room surely…but he didn’t find the way to the litter tray?

It seems you provide well for your cat if there is an emergency but maybe have someone like a hospital social worker contacted in case of prolonged care or heaven forbid you are not able to communicate with others if not able to return home, so the cat is not left to starve. Most hospitals have a social worker attached, or you could have a prominent note left in your medical history to alert someone of the problem. Nurses are usually very helpful to pass messages on to other staff. Be well.

Yes, dry food is a more people-convenient thing. Also, dry food is much higher in carbs -- a real bad choice as a regular diet. Dry food should be a "once-in-awhile" thing. It's nonsense you don't need to put a litter box for each cat it's just downright people being lazy by doing that and after each and every one of them get full they still crap on the floor just be a good animal person and clean their litter boxes often if you have two litter boxes and 12 cats Ardmore cleaner more often my cats do 100% what their litter boxes clean when they want them clean and they let me know that I had a cat that I treated like a baby and used the toilet by making it its own way he died at age 28 years old so I must have been doing something right and he lived with 45 cats while I was living in California people were home off and I pick them up and give him a home with me I had a two-story home and there was 45 cats in my home and I had the Humane Society come by one day and he was so proud to see my house very clean and only had one litter box for them all I just kept up with the daily and yes I like to send it cuz it smells better and the cats like it better to they won't use any other box of litter other than scoop away as well as the one woman stated cast know what they want they're not stupid animals they're very intelligent actually they are more intelligent than most human beings

    I get mice that come through the water pipe holes in the floor under the sink, in the bathroom Which is a problem with all manufactured homes. She loves when one comes out and gets to hunt it. She will watch for it to come out when she hears one under the bathroom cabinet.

    Vet visits are too expensive. I have 2 rescues and have to resort to limited vet care. Vet care is getting so expensive they are not adopting . So many homeless cats and ignorant breeders are bringing new cats into the world w/ the cat having multiple pregnancies. 😖😖😖😖

    • @yoursugarismine
      @yoursugarismine 22 дня назад

      I know vets so expensive…my cat had vomited for the past week, she just stopped 2 days ago but I didn’t go to the vet this time…last time I did they charged me for visit, blood test and 2 meds and it was expensive and I didn’t have that kind of money at the moment. I’m keeping her monitored tho and if I need to take her I will ultimately…but I think vets should be a little bit cheaper…also bc they rarely tell you what the problem is, they stop the vomiting of fever or eye infection like in my case but they never know what caused it and it’s frustrating

    How can you feed a cat that will not eat any type of wet food at all ?

    • @kennyjones559
      @kennyjones559 Месяц назад +3

      Mix in dry. If that works, gradually decrease the wet & increase the dry food. For whatever reason, my cat is low maintenance. She eats wet. She eats dry. AND she drinks water regularly, too. Her poops 💩 don’t stink either, but she buries them.

      @@CPotatoPlant "Nature of the beast" as the saying goes will most likely determine how much you can do. I've have many cats over the yrs. & my last one (who had to be put to sleep last yr. age 15) would not let me go near her for a # of things. I could not even brush or comb her, had to give her treats to get near her & then she would hiss, slap, etc. & that began when she was 9 wks. old. She also did not like being picked up or held. My cat prior to her was in heaven & looked forward to a long combing sessions. No guarantees.

      Sounds like your cat has fully embraced his teenage rebellion phase! 😹✨ Mine acts like I’m plotting world domination every time I bring out the nail clippers. Have you tried distracting him with treats or a cat toothbrush that tastes like chicken? 🐾 What’s everyone else’s secret?

    • @carolhayar3037
      @carolhayar3037 Месяц назад +3

      @@funnypet_house Of course I tried the treat thing. But again, each animal is different. And what does it tell you about temperament when you have to bring your cat 1/2 hr. early to the vet so they give it a bit of sedation in order to work on it. But she was AMAZING when it came to the litter box - let me know she needed to use it but waited nearby & watched as I cleaned up a bit, then went in to use it.

      @@carolhayar3037 Wow, she sounds like a cat full of personality-rebellious when it comes to grooming but a total angel with the litter box! 😹🐾 It’s amazing how they have their own rules for what they’ll tolerate. Maybe she’s just setting boundaries like a queen! Have you tried experimenting with different brushes or even a fingertip brush to ease her into it? Also, the litter box story deserves its own medal-what a thoughtful diva! 😂
