      Thanks great review in picturesque backdrop It a great looking bike, I'm looking at purchasing the 500x for commuting and can't see what the big difference is in the newer 2016+ to your 2015 model apart from the ABS and led front end. When you purchased this what stood out for you from the earlier 2013/2014 models?

    I own a CB500X 2014, almost done 70.000 miles or 112000 km very good engine and not problem. My point of view be nice 15 BHP more and seat not very comfy after long journey.
    For the rest she’s a great bike.

    A lot of people are downsizing and extolling the virtues of a smaller bike. In the reviews they always talk about it being a good “entry level bike”, which may be so, but it’s a good light fun bike for us old timers too...

    Good review. Bought one last May, but due to the crap winter, have only just put 1000 miles on it. You mentioned about potential replacement of the exhaust. I’ve replaced the original with a Scorpion Serket Carbon Fibre Slip-on........... made a helluva difference to the weight of the bike; much lighter and giving better performance. And it looks and sounds better. Definitely worth considering

    Hi Irish Rover, enjoyed your review so much I went out and bought one. A 2016 model which had only done 600kms. Really enjoying it but for one main annoying thing. Having a bit of a problem with what I've heard referred to as "twitchy throttle". Mainly in first and second gear but a little in third gear as well. Also, as someone has mentioned in comments below, a bit clunky gear change again mainly in first and second. So I was wondering if you had experienced the twitchy throttle issue and if so how did you resolve it? I've read lots of suggested work arounds including, just work on your riding technique, use the clutch etc.

    • @irishrover63

      I found it to be on the soft side from stock and a bit vague into corners. Now with the Hagon springs and main shock it is a lot firmer, but I would like to test ride a Rally Raid equipped to compare.

    I'm impressed with how many owners have very positive things to say about the CB500X. It is a pity, and I often think a false economy, that manufacturers so often opt for poor suspension. I put a Hagon on the rear of my Triumph; cheaper (to buy) than the oem, but vastly superior. Beautiful setting for a bike walkaround!

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  7 лет назад +2

      I now have Hagon front and rear, but I am considering Rally Raid for the front as I still find it a bit harsh. Honda have done well to build the CB500X for the price, but folks would pay extra for quality suspension. I do like that Balquhidder glen, it's the supposed burial site in the local church graveyard of Rob Roy, but there is doubt surrounding the claim. :)

    That view ... stunning! You couldn't have picked a better spot for that beauty of a bike.
    Sounds like your bike has been good for you and to you.
    I'm amazed at how long you can go between oil changes with these bikes.
    I'm with you on exhaust sounds; not sure I'm going to change mine either.
    Maybe when you get your new bike, your daughter can then learn on this one. ;)

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  8 лет назад

      That was Balquhidder Glen, the supposed home of Rob Roy MacGregor. It has been a great wee work horse. I just go with the Honda recommended oil change intervals of 8000 miles, if they state that in the manual then that's fine by me, no need for any further expense. My daughter was wanting to come with me on that day, but I had a different agenda. She thinks I am avoiding taking her pillion. She was booked to come to Spain with us, but cancelled due to another trip she is making to New York in June. Hence the reason why I was going to hire a motorcycle in Spain, she missed out on an awesome day trip. RSMF :)

    Great review mate.
    I had an epiphany watching this!!
    I was really surprised about your tyre wear. I've gone through 2 sets of PR4's - both sets got 18000 out of the rear and 27000 out of the front!
    I think this may be a good indication of how your suspension mod has changed the bike - made the front much more planted and therefore more tyre wear?
    Interesting point about speed limits - I don't see the point of a bike that can do quadruple the speed limit in first gear, lol - unless I win the lottery and get on the track :)
    I've heard many times on the forum about litre bike riders going for the 500X and F - but funny enough, I've met a few litre bike riders on my tours who have checked the bike out and told me it was just what they were looking for - reduced fuel use, less of that power that gets you into trouble. Interestingly they were all veteran riders.
    RSMF

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  8 лет назад +1

      I didn't think of that mate, but that might just be the cause of the wear increase on the front. Just done 200 miles on the new Avon Trail Riders and so far they feel amazing, very similar grip feel to the PR4's, but with a bigger tyre profile. Veteran riders have done it and wore the T-shirt, so they know what is good. LoL
      I forgot to mention a few things like fitting the K&N filter, but I don't think it has made a difference, mind you it has been 8000 miles since I fitted it, so maybe I should pull it out and check to see if it needs a clean. RSMF :-)

    Hi mate :) what an area - long review and not a single car :)
    I am on a verge of buying either nc750x or cb500x coming down from my fourth over liter bike. Did you have a chance to compare the two???

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  6 лет назад +1

      I test rode the NC700X when it was launched before the CB500X was released, there were a few things I liked about it like the false fuel tank compartment and I did like the engine tone, but that's about it really. When the CB500X was released it was a no brainer, cheaper, lighter and almost the same fuel consumption. My advice to you would be to get a test ride on both if you can, but if I had the choice again I would still go with the CB500X.
      The road is so quiet because it is a dead end further up the glen. One way in and the same way out. Thanks for watching and commenting. I have a 5 year review video also. 👍

      Thanks for your comment. This bike is hard to beat for price and economy. I've just had my 32000 mile valve clearance check done. If you spent the money on a RR Level 3 upgrade, there would be no need for another off road bike. In fact this bike can be used on light off road tracks as standard with a tyre change.

    24k miles, some might think the bike was worn out and about to fall to pieces :-)
    You forgot to mention the K&N air filter did it improve the performance or economy?
    And the new chain (and sprockets?) gave you a smoother ride? was it the same specification as the one it replaced?
    Be sure to let us know how things are going after the next 24k! all the best :-)

      I did forget about the K&N filter and probably because I don't notice any difference, not that I though I would anyhow. The chain was a Tsubaki X ring and the rear sprocket a 39T. I remember on some bikes I have had in the past I would be lucky to do 3000 miles per year. Cheers Julian. :)

    I have always like sportsbikes however this one calls strangely my attention, whats the often mileage of it out of a tank in kms?

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  6 лет назад

      Tank range converts to 482km. It's worth considering. Have a look around this forum for more info. www.cb500x.com/?action=forum

    Hi. I have one too and was considering putting on hand guards. Did removing the handlebar weights cause you to have more vibration at the handles or any other problems? Thank you.

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  8 лет назад +1

      No problems at all. My kit which was for the NC700X at the time came with bar weights. I believe the Barkbusters kit made for the CB500X use the original bar weights. :)

    Its interesting to hear a long term review of a motorcycle ,instead of a quick impression from a test ride. Will you go for the same tyres when you change them? You certainly had beautiful weather to ride in. :)

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  8 лет назад +1

      I changed them yesterday Ian and went for Avon Trail Riders. My first MOT will be tomorrow. I am tempted with the Honda NC750X DCT, must get a test ride. :)

    3 years and only 24,000kms
    Do you even ride the thing?

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  7 лет назад +2

      24,000 miles = 38624km
      I now have 31150 miles = 50131km and yes I use it all year round. My daily commute is 25miles.
      So your point is?

    • @alexvankool9361
      @alexvankool9361 7 лет назад

      Maybe I just ride a lot, I've own my CB for 4 months and done 18.5 thousands ks

    • @irishrover63
      @irishrover63  7 лет назад +2

      Good for you mate, but it doesn't really matter how many miles or km's you rack up so long as you enjoy the ride and the bike. If I owned 3 bikes my annual mileage would even be lower, so I'm a bit confused as to your question re "do you even ride the thing?"

    • @alexvankool9361
      @alexvankool9361 7 лет назад

      Yeah would've just thought a 3 year review would've had a bit more wear on the bike

    • @irishrover63

      No, but I have read that some in the USA and Australia used more oil between service intervals.
