- There is so much jewelry out there to love. Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Retro, and Mid Century each had their own styles of jewelry. Jewelry designer Jill Maurer and estate jeweler Donnie Grissom walk through all of the design periods revealing their favorite pieces from each era and which era they would each choose if they could only wear jewelry from one. We also receive a special visit from Donnie's standard poodle CeCe!

This was a fantastic discussion it challenge me to remember all the dates of the periods and then to recollect some of the pieces that you use as examples. I also greatly appreciate some of the information about what people were wearing and what make up they were doing I like all of that stuff and I think it’s fun to pick your favorite make up. Along with the favorite clothes you like to wear as well as your favorite type of jewelry. I would be a mixed up crazy bag lady wearing Georgian shoes 1940s clothing with Edwardian art nouveau or art deco platinum jewelry Victorian hair and pale lipstick from the 1960s carrying a re-issue Coco Chanel bag. I'm fascinated that you started with Georgian. Having seen so much jewelry in museums (ancient Egyptian pieces, for example) I'm surprised to learn you started so late in comparison. Is that because these are pieces that are actually available for purchase whereas ancient pieces are relegated to museums? You two did a great job remaining serious and on task while Cece is on Donnie's lap, in front of his face, licking him, pawing at you. It was a little like a Saturday Night Live skit. Reminds me of the Julia Child one. Ha, ha!
So fun that you commented on that Autumn! There is a lot of ancient jewelry, but it is not highly collected. It is in museums, and you can still buy it. It isn't as valuable as you may think because it isn't highly collected. That's the reason that estate jewelers normally start with Georgian. It's also the first time more people were wearing jewelry. CeCe is all over the place, but we are definitely used to that. She's quite the diva and has to be in the middle of everything! xoxo

Do you guys work with raw opal, the wife and I are starting to get into them. Bought 180 karats from Ethiopia.
How interesting! I don't work with opals at all because of my personal superstitions about them. Donnie deals in estate jewelry so he doesn't work with raw stones either. Thank you for asking! xoxo
