The funny thing is: Max0r's incorrect summaries are quite correct. Ace 0 was exactly that illogical, drawn out and convoluted gem that we love dearly.

For Kitt, a small abridged version of AC0's lore specificly. Basically, prior to the Belkan war there was a cold war between Osea and Yuktobania (Strangereals America and Russia respectivly) which escalated extremly, as both countrys pumped out Superweapon after Superweapon. Belka, as the defacto third superpower of Strangereal (Which is Strangereals Germany), was scared of the possibility of Osean and Yuktobanian superweapons being pointed at them and began participating in the cold war by scaling up their own military (Which led to the creation of the Hresvelgr and Excalibur). Compared to Osea and Yuktobania though, Belka overspend and coudnt finance their rapid military upgrades and went into a economic crisis.
Forced by this crisis, Belka accepted a resource finding joint program with Osea, which, upon finding nothing, catapulted the company founded for that program and subsequently Belka in dept, which forced Belka to recede their territory in the south (Also known as Ustio(!) Gebet and Rekta, which were annexed by Belka in the past). Later own, it was discovered that Osea majorly screwed Belka other with that program by manipulating finding, which lead to a nationalist militant party being elected into Belkan goverment, promising to reclaim Belkas former glory and annex everything around them and more back, especially Ustio, who was found to have massive untapped resources in their soil, which would fix Belkas situation.
Which leads us to the Belkan war between Belka and literally everyone else. Pixy and Cipher are mercenarys employed by Ustio. Pixy grew mentally unstable due to the bombin of Hoffnung, which was even more horrific in the actual game than depicted here and came to the conclusion that wars only happend because countrys definied themselve by borders and hence joined the terrorist group "A World without Boundaries", which is compromised of defectors who like Pixy became horrified of the warcrimes commited by both sides of the war (A Sapin squadron was shown, but in the game there were Osean squadrons too). Their goal was to eradicate the status quo and allow a new generation to learn from their "mistakes" (Which was the formation of countries) via the 8 nukes in 1 nuke V2. Pixy flew the ADF-02 Morgan in the final duel between him and Cipher, which is a batshit insane Plane. It comes with several high power fuel missiles, a laser system which he can fire and use like a god damn laser sword and a electronic warfare system which renders enemy missiles night useless (There is a small weakness to that system but other than that youre forced to use guns against it). It has a reinforced frame which allowed it to just chuck a couple of missiles before being downed and carry all those special weapons in the first place and its general performance overshadows nearly every other jet ever produced. Its only outclassed by later ADF models and a couple of other modern superplanes produced way later in the Strangereal timeline.

It's almost literally what happens
So the "Belkan War" is basically WW2 if it happened in 1995 and without Nazis, the Belkans Invade the southern countries Osea, Ustio and Sapin which had territory that was theirs before their bankruptcy and they 3 countries come together to defeat them.
Ustio has to hire Mercenaries which you play as and you take 3 paths to winning the war Knight, Soldier, Mercenary which change the story a little depending on how ruthless you are (ex. You can let wounded enemies escape and make sure not to hit civilians) and this changes the Ace Squadrons you face.
Towards the end of the war the Belkans make a Nuclear wall halfway across their own country with 7 Nukes and this causes them to make a cease fire on their terms but a Rogue Faction keeps fighting and has members from the Allies join them.
Some Allies had thought the war was pointless and their leaders were greedy and gonna start carving up the land so they go Rogue and try to nuke the whole world to start over Humanity with no Countries.
The final act of the game has you fight the Rogue Army and stop them from ending the world.
And it's just a game about fighter jets.

Being belkan is a pathway to many abilities some would consider to be…unnatural
Ace Combat Zero is the prequel to the earlier game Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. Without going into spoilers, the plot of AC5 is effectively the aftermath of the events of AC0 coming back in a big way almost two decades later; AC0 was basically made to try and flesh out those events beyond the snippets we got sprinkled through the plot of AC5. It unfortunately has the problem that a lot of prequels do in that it has to kludge in a bunch of stuff to fill out the game that doesn't always make sense.
However, it did a lot of interesting things, which were obliquely alluded to in Max0r's video.
One of them was the game's sort-of morality system. In previous Ace Combat titles, pretty much any target on the map was fair game, and you weren't able to target anything that might be questionable. Anything that could be targeted was a hostile. In Ace Combat Zero, they gave you three kinds of targets: critical targets, general targets and neutral targets. Critical targets were mission-critical, general targets could be destroyed but you didn't always have to, and neutral targets could be ignored; in some cases, formerly hostile targets could become neutral to indicate enemy fighters limping away from the the battlefield.
How you approached these targets determined some factors if the game. If you only destroyed mission-crticial targets and general targets but ignored all neutral targets, you were a "Knight." If you hit some neutral targets occasionally, you were a "Soldier," and if you just wiped the map of anything you could destroy, you were a "Mercenary." In terms of the game plot this didn't change any missions you participated in, but it did change which enemy Ace squadrons you faced, and by extension unlocked different pilot interviews. Being a Knight meant you faced the honorable elites of the enemy, being a Soldier put you up against their general-purpose elites, and being a Mercenary put you up against the real scumbag aces that were alleged to have committed war crimes.
Like any good Ace Combat game, it also has super-weapons (like the video showed), but the actual missions hint at their presence several times before you face them directly. In case you're wondering why these superweapons exist - besides the usual international posturing, the Strangereal world had an incoming asteroid and various nations built these super-weapons to deal with it. Belka's laser system was one of the less effective ones, and after the asteroid was no longer a threat the nations of the world started pointing those super-weapons at each other.
The game Ace Combat 4 takes place a few years after the events of Ace Combat Zero but before the events of Ace Combat 5.

The funniest part about this is that it’s pretty accurate to the actual plot, the Ace Combat series is literally just Metal Gear with planes, the plot is fucking ridiculously complicated and every single word spoken in it is some kind of metaphor for (insert anti-war thing here)

Its Metal Gear but with planes.
You know, there is something so mind-numbingly hilarious about a fighter pilot, becoming a fighter pilot so that he may one day find the edge of the planet and prove that the Earth is indeed flat.

Ace Combat is basically a slightly more realistic Star Fox gameplay wise with a metal gear solid like story and of course Belka
Ace Combat Zero's TLDR lore: During the Cold war, the superpower Osea (which is basically USA) and yuktobania (USSR) engaged in an arms race. Belka at that time joined the fun by constructing their own superweapon to rival the superpower giant. Those superweapon include the "Excalibur" laser tower designed to intercept any ballistic cruise missile at any part of the world, V2 MIRV ballistic missile that is capable of decimating half of the 2 superpower country's capital cities, and a flying heavy command cruiser.
That in turn impacted the government's spending, leading to Belka's economic depression. Ustio was born from the independent movement of this state seceding from Belka. Belka was initially fine with it since lesser budget to manage... but then they realized Ustio are sitting on top of valuable natural resource (fuel, minerals, etc.) and they want to annex it back while capturing other territory to bring Belka back to its glory.
Belka is essentially a country governed by Chauvinistic right-wing militaristic government and by chauvinistic, i mean they are so fanatical about defending their righteous border that they are willing to nuke their own territory to prove that point. Osea, one of the faction that is fighting alongside you, isn't any better as well, since they committed war crimes like the bombing of Hoffnung. Hence the creation of "A world with no boundary" terrorist organization. Fun fact, the leader of this organization (Anton Kupchenko) is the architect behind Belka's Superweapon (Excalibur, XB-0 Hresvelgr, V2) and it's no surprise how they managed to get their hands on both the XB-0 and V2 missile facilities.
Also, a youtuber by the name "Gizou Gitai" actually made 2-part video explaining the philosophy and politic behind Ace Combat Zero titled "Ace Combat Zero Analysis", i highly recommend watching both part because the lore of this game is so deep.

I'd highly recommend playing AC Zero as well, it's such a good game. I've been an ace combat fan since like, Ace Combat 4, and it's SUCH a good, if nonsense series.

I know this dropped a year ago, but, in case you weren't told already, the country of Belka in Ace Combat Zero is based on Germany. Now the interesting and sad part of the game. The Bombing of Hoffnung was based on the Fire-bombing of Dresden in WW2. Now, of course, I don't want to get into the grizzly details of what happened.

He gives an explanation of the financial challenges that Belka went through that led to their economic crisis. And the reason why Belka began working on expensive military projects and what eventually led the the Belkan War.

I do wish Max0r made an incorrect summary of Ace Combat 5 but I'm starting to think that game doesn't have that crazy of a plot as AC Zero or AC7.
The game was even more batshit insane than Zero tho. You start off as rookies. Get involved in a modern day Pearl Harbor attack. Hunt down a nuclear submarine (twice). Take part as air support in a D-Day style landing. Get framed for a terrorist attack on a civilian engineering college so you get sent back home for a trial, only to end up fighting against a retaliatory terrorist threat on your home turf. Then being forced to take part in suicide missions behind enemy lines. And that's only the first half.
@@ROBOHOLIC1 That's true but it feels a little more grounded. At least here you play as what could be genuine war heroes that didn't blindly follow orders all the way through. Your description doesn't sound as crazy as Zero would. Two pilots fight in the Belkan war and end up killing everything because they were told to until Belka starts using lasers and nukes. Then your friend betrays you and comes back with a laser plane and launches nukes with the intent to "reset this twisted game".
Then AC7 is just:
Jeff Bezos is a Belkan and he helps Erusea take over Osea with drones and an old Ace pilot. So obviously you go rescue the president by accidentally blowing him up. You end up in jail but they let you fly planes. Since you're a criminal you can be sent on every suicide mission possible until you get recruited by a legitimate unit as their leader. You then fight on multiple fronts including the extra curricular platforms and railgun but also a submarine controlled by a terrorist until the world is affected by Kessler Syndrome and you commit more war crimes. By the end of it you face drones controlled by Skynet that try to take over the world.
AC5's story is also batshit insane, but not in the memeable way AC0's is, rather in the complex final fantasy way, but actually good.

You asked for lore... You will get lore.
I will try to simplify it as best as I can though.
Though to be honest, he does touch on most of the lore in the video, even in a wacky way, will try to cover the stuff he did not mention, more or less... which relates more to other games in the series, not this one.
Most of the ace combat games (read: the GOOD ace combat games) are set in strangereal, a sort of alternate version of earth with nations and technology that are like our world but not quite.
Belka is the equivalent of germany, more or less, and this game is about a (sort of) world war (as in, this is more or less the settings equivalent to ww2, including a mission that is basically the bombing of Dresden) as they tried to expand.
Its actually a prequel to ace combat 5 specifically, which deals with a lot of the fallout from the events of this game, 7 and some of the spin offs also going into it.
The world has a history of super-weapons, which is excused by an event (which has not yet happened during the time period of Zero) were a giant meteor was on a colision course with the planet, and every country in the world basically started developing their own super weapons to deal with it, eventually turning those towards military uses after the problem was taken care of (by taken care of I mean that half the world got wrecked to shit as they did sort of destroy the big meteor... sort of).
In Zero, you are literally just a mercenary hired by an otherwise unimportant and small-time country, one who ends up at the forefront of events due to your legendary skill, with you disappearing completely after the war.
The game being told as, believe it or not, a sort of documentary, were a reporter travels the world intervewing people who crossed paths with you in combat; Who those people are also change depending on how you play, the game actually has a morality system of sorts...
Yellow targets (which maxor always goes for) are optional ones, ignoring or going for them moves your reputation from a Knight (ignores yellow targets exclusively, including disabled enemies, as enemies will sometimes not die from damage, instead becoming yellow targets and running away) Soldier (balanced between going for yellow targets and not... basically not going out of your way for them) and Mercenary (go for every yellow target, even those out of the way).
This wont change the ending, but it does change which elite/boss enemies you face, and the people the reporter interviews.
The interviews are all live action, btw.
This one is more or less set at the start of the timeline (think either ace combat 1 and/or 2 are set earlier... but I'm not sure, and most of those games plot were added after the fact) so not a lot of lore to it that isn't focused on other games.
Random fun fact: Ace Combat 3 is actually a cyberpunk game, set in the far future of the setting, featuring themes of transhumanism and an actual branching story with multiple endings and animated cutscenes by studio IG (ghost in the shell)
... the JAPANSE version of Ace Combat 3 that is... western release cut out all the anime, cut out all the story and branching paths, it turned it into literally just a linear arcade shooter with a random arrangement of missions from different branches.
THANKFULLY, there exists a translation patch.
The reason for the shit localization is assumed to be due to poor sales in Japan. Yes, really.
