Ms. Norman, I just wanted to take the time to thank you for sharing your beautiful watercolor paintings with us. I have learned so much by watching and following along to your tutorials. You are so talented and I for one appreciate the time you take to share it with us. I started painting three years ago and slowly am improving by using the techniques you share. Love the vignettes! My new favorite way to paint using the letter method! Thank you again and may you be blessed !

Thank you Lynda I loved the birch trees. The great thing about this tutorial I think is that the arist could stop at several points in the process and it would still be attractive .
I have found that by using a hairdryer to warm the adhesive when removing the tape helps to preserve the cheaper paper. Sending my very best wishes ….

Fantastic! I love painting small like that. Your birch trees are so beautiful!!❤. And your ornaments..adorable! I’ve been painting ornaments for my family for years, but have always used watercolor ground…painting on cut wood with a grain. I’m going to look for the ones you’ve painted on ….so much easier, less steps, and I really like how they come out! Thank you so much for sharing these projects. I just found you and I’ll be following you. Also going back to see what other things you’ve posted. Again…thank you!

Love your work and teaching! I was surprised to see that you painted directly on the wood. I'm using GAC 100 as a wood sealer (or isolation coat) for similar wood shapes and for cradle boards that are not pre-primed. I learned that GAC 100 is a very good product to protect from SID (Support-Induced-Discoloration). Chemicals from the wood and the paper (or paint?) can leach into the other and cause discoloration. With the sealer, I doubt that you could paint directly onto the wood with watercolor (it creates a thin acrylic clear layer). So I either use watercolor ground (transparent or white) to paint on, or paint on good watercolor paper and mount to the wood with matte medium and trim to size. Then I use Dorland's wax as the final coat. I am wondering if it's overkill to use the sealer AND matte medium when using paper since there is another type of medium that also serves as an isolation coat apparently. But I do wonder if discoloration can happen when you paint directly on unsealed wood (no isolation coat). I've been painting for a few years, but have learned so much online and from other artists. I appreciate how much you all share of your time and talents!

PS: Golden is now recommending gloss medium over GAC 100 to prevent SID. Good video on the subject from Golden:

Loved these but, they are small and it would help if the camera were closer.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I would have loved to see them up close. Wonderful ideas! I have been adding the watercolor ground to tree branch slices and drilling a hole for twine. The watercolor goes on beautifully. I finish them with wax but may try the varnish.
