Radeon 780m has performance between 1050Ti and 1060 6GB AND as like we know, 880m won't be that much faster, matching up with 1060 exactly so you'll be able to play anyway with higher frames and better graphics but expecting 4070 level performance is BS as hell.. but still, if you need to squeeze all of it, your system requires the most fastest DDR5 RAM with lowest latency, adding on a bit of money for which of them you can actually buy like 1080Ti on used market which will be almost 100% faster than 880m ( if power consumption does not bother you and you don't mind to pay a bit more for electricity, you should go up with 1080Ti but if your build does not allow you to use dedicated gpu, go for the 880m and fastest ram with lowest latency you can get.. it will cost like 800-900 bucks for the entire build but afterall it will be 1- silent and 2- energy efficient )

7:12. I just wish you ran your normal benchmark as well. The same place you always start. The same bosses you always walk up to and hit. The same center divider you jump over. The same other side of the street you walk down. As your personal cyberpunk benchmark demo.
Which I have grown accustomed to. And provides a pretty good measuring stick. Because of my familiarity with CryEngine. And you're perfect consistency.
Outside this video of course. And this is one of the ones I really wanted to see that result for.!
    Because it's the overclock version.!
Indeed the in-game benchmark is looking pretty good. That doesn't tell me anything comparison to the hundreds of other times I've seen you play that specific part in Cyberpunk.!
Obviously you do another benchmark with the G1. And you Did it in exactly the same way you always normally do.
And of course the performances greater. But that doesn't tell me what I need to know as far as the measuring stick you have developed over so many examples with different hardware.
And I don't know maybe add some extra stuff you might not have shown in this video.
Because by my estimate even though I never got to see the overclock cyberpunk result. The reason I anticipated it so greatly it's because I expected such great things from it.
And if the in game benchmark is any indication. It definitely will. But the only way I'll actually know is if you run your benchmark.
"Your" cyberpunk benchmark is my measuring stick.!
Maybe a show of emulation or a possible advantage or disadvantage Not previously elaborated on.
Maybe do a RUclips short. I don't think you've done any of those have you.?
I'm sure if you did RUclips would show me.
But as always. Excellent video.! 👍👍

    I've seen another video :
Daniel Owen I'm having WAY too much fun with Mini PCs! (Minisforum UM690 vs UM790 vs BeeLink GTR7 Pro)

This just goes to show how capable these igpu's (in the 7940HS/7840HS) are, combined with a good enough cooling solution, at those higher power limits.
Question then becomes why are they power capped? Degradation reasons?
If not, it begs a second question. Why there are no laptop manufacturers designing around this 7940HS/7840HS, WITHOUT a dedicated GPU but WITH a beefy cooling solution and increase TDP limits? Cause of lower revenue interests due to lower overall system specs (display especially), or contracts mandating combining these with x brand dGPU's?
Such a machine with only a 7940HS/7840H would make a fabulous productivity laptop, with very good entry level gaming performance if it was designed to be able to run and cool 80W.

DDR5 (even LPDDR5X) is not on par with the GDDR used on dedicated graphics. This RDNA3 IGPU is bottlenecked by the memory used. You need to upgrade to standalone GPU given a point.

    • @gkirmathal
      @gkirmathal Год назад +1

@@leaderface6437 true. But it depends on ones use case and what performance one deems adequate for their needs.
Personally it would fit my performance need, albeit with faster DDR5 then this review. Cause I won't be running the newest AAA titles anyway. Making this APU be a best fit without going directly to entry dGPU.
Btw, if one really needs more dedicated GPU horsepower, manufacturers should integrate an OCulink port on such AMD powered products. Anyway that is just my take on it ;)

I have the 7840hs variant coming this week. I opted for it after seeing your testing on these units. I have a suspicion that performance is being left on the table due to the vram allocation being at 4 GB. I paired it with 32 GB DDR5 5600 because i think there may be a substantial performance increase if we can allocate more memory to vram. Shame you couldn't OC the memory. That is always the first thing I try with iGPUs. Did you try disabling the XEMU profile (amd's XMP iirc) go down to 4800 and then manually increase frequency and timings? Also, that 200 MHz bump is fairly small. One thing that helps a lot is to slightly downclock the CPU so you get more GPU headroom. But even without touching the cpu you should be able to get a few more Hz out of your APU before hitting instability. I mean, 200 is a great starting point but ai would try to get about 500 MHz extra to really get the juice going. Ideally a 400MHz OC on the memory and a 500MHz OC on the GPU. You might want to try and undervolt tye CPU too. Especially if you lower clocks. That decreases the power budget and again diverts more of those higher orbit electrons to the GPU.

It would be interesting because the RAM is also used as graphics memory, and if you buy the barebones version and use faster RAM, for example DDR5-5600, CL40-40-40, the graphics performance could be a lot better. It is clear that RAM latency matters much more than a clock increase. The important question would be whether the UM790 pro with DDR5-5600, CL40-40-40 runs stably or not? The other important question would be whether a Raid 0 with the two NVME SSD works without problems?? For example 2X 2TB Gen4 SSD. Most likely it would be a monster setup RAM timing with CL40 and 2X 2TB Gen4 SSD in RAID 0. I mean it would be very interesting an extra video about these options.

I cannot trust your content to give an accurate review of what to expect anymore. I hope in the future you start to focus on what made you a big channel.

I'm curious. The original Oculus Rift requires a Radeon R9 290. After a little research, it looks like the overclocked 780M on this should be within a few percent of that level of performance. So how would this handle VR on the Oculus Rift? (assuming the drivers even allow it)

Depends on the title. I would except some sim racers like Assetto Corsa and AMS2 to run fine as they needed a 970 to run. ACC and DCS, forget about it (in thick Italian accent).

Please insist that these companies include Thunderbolt 4. Its not that expensive and just a few chips and power handling. Yes it has USB4 which is great, but if it has Thunderbolt 4 we can use an external GPU enclosures over Thunderbolt like the Razer Core X. Put an RTX4080Ti/R7800XT in there and you have a beast of a gaming rig. This is the prime reason why I'm not buying any minipc's apart from the Intel NUC with Thunderbolt. We need Thunderbolt 4! Please give them this feedback. They would have my money if it had Thunderbolt 4.

So even with RDNA3 and 5600MHz RAM, these APUs still can't do 1080p/60 without some heavy smearing from FSR Balanced or Performance in many modern games. It would be nice to test 900p or 720p native or just to see where 1080p native lands. 40fps? 20 fps?

If you put 32 Gig instead of 16 Gig of RAM this PC can even run 15% faster and 30% faster at 1% low-framerates. Daniel Owen made a video about. 32 Gig will helpt a lot. There is much less stutter.
This Video show how fast the 8700G might be.

Interested in Horizon Zero Dawn as it doesn't like my settings as they are so it will have to be a refund. Wasn't sure if all the settings you recommended have to be set to get HZD to work.
I ran FH5 on their recent free trial and everything was on low settings, so interested as your settings seemed amazing. FH4 seems to have to run on low settings, but not worried about that.
Just wondered what's going to happen to my games once I get a 4K monitor.
Street Fighter 6 looks awesome, so wondering if the same settings are required.

My vote for HX80G over HX99G or UM790 pro.
    My reasons are:
    - DDR5 still not completely developed for high efficiency versus speed/latency. Right now, ddr4 is enough for 1080p or even 1440p gaming.
    - Thunderbolt or USB4 support for external gpu needs better speed and latency in some games like shooters, so best option is an oculink adapter for m.2 slot, you could do this in hx80g too.
    - Performance difference between 5800H, 5900HX, 6900HX even 7940HS is very little (10%-15%) compared with price gap between these models.
    - Under my assumption. 7940HX for now didn't exist, and 7945HX, based on news and rumors, will be used for new mini pc with desktop gpu support. This is not interesting for me, because i'm interested in mobile gpu efficiency, and low overall consumption, that's not going to be the case.
