What you talked about with the bottom arm is something that has confused me for at least the past year, if not more. I was always taught my pole vault coaches and vaulters in our conference that you should tuck your bottom arm as if it was a chicken wing. That made some sense to me, but then I purchased a pole vault video produced by Jeff Hartwig and Earl Bell where Jeff said that he teaches people to collapse the bottom arm to the outside of the pole instead of the inside which also made some sense to me, but also really confused me. I'm someone who likes to coach in a manner of physically demonstrating drills to my kids, and that's kind of difficult for me since I have never competed in pole vault in my life, but every other event in track I have literally done. I feel like your explanation is a happy medium in a sense.
Its very cliche, but its all just a big learning experience. The bottom arm does come in eventually but not one elite vaulter does it at the take-off. Keep playing and learning and you'll find your sweet spot!
I've been asked to show a few beginner H.S. pole vaulters a few pointers and this is right on time. Thanks Shawn.

Good man
Youve techniaclly been there for me here via youtube since we were both vaulting, I in highschool at the time lol about 10 years ago lol ❤😂
And yeah all makes sense and sounds really good to me as I coach now haha I might even just to try and buy your book too bro!
Great T-shirt 👍🏽
Could you mention jumping over your grip, and what needs to happen for that
Energy from the swing will be the main force getting you to jump above your grip.
I wish my coach taught me to turn right off the bat!! I went over every bar backwards at my meet this weekend -_-
I used to do that back in the day too which means its able to correct!
@@TeamHootPoleVault any tips on how to fix this? My outdoor season just ended and my final vaults were backwards
