    I've stocked all my tins with the nDur button compass from the Bushcraft Store. Around £4 each, rather than the usual £2 rubbish. They meet US Military standards for issue, which is a fairly strong recommendation.

    I bought a tiny button compass and it has a bubble in it. It doesn't seem to work accurately but I don't know if I'm using wrong somehow; another video said that bubbles in compasses don't cause a problem?

      If you hold the compass in your hand and warm it to body temp the bubbles should disappear!👍

    What can you do if it does get a bubble

    • @Wildernesswarriorbushcraft
      @Wildernesswarriorbushcraft  2 года назад

      Hi there! So if your button Compass was to get a bubble, you could hold it in you're hand or pop it in a pocket close to the body to warm the liquid up and I've found that can get rid of bubbles! Hope that helps! Andy 🤟

    Haha. I rather trust the stars. These button smutton compasses not accurate. Even with no metal, magnets close... It shows north different every time while in same position

    • @EspenFrafalne
      @EspenFrafalne 2 года назад

      I just saw a video comparing different button compasses, and one of the Chinese brand ones was VERY inaccurate, and would literally show north pointing almost directly south, LOL! Another compass of exactly the same type and brand was more or less "ok" though, and the other brands he showed were all ranging from "ok" to "pretty good".
      A button compass is not ideal for extensive field trips, but it is still nice to have for shorter hikes, in case i want to go explore just a short stretch away from the trail, or if i got lost and knew the general direction i would have to go to meet up with a road. And if you got a good map, and have some training with navigation, then a reasonably accurate button compass may be all you need.

      Hi there, Thanks for your comments! So it's only really going to give you your cardinal points!! And I would never count on it like I would a Silva type compass!! Andy

      @@Wildernesswarriorbushcraft The Silva "Arc Jet" compass also have very limited functionality, somewhat similar to a button compass, and AFAIK this is designed for orienteering runners. I just ordered 2 BCB button compasses that are approved by NATO (similar design as in this video), and i would think this means they are pretty accurate. Of course they will not be the most precise tools for triangulating ones position, but they should still be pretty useable in the right hands.

      @@Wildernesswarriorbushcraft I have very limited experience with actually using a compass, but i have seen a few really good videos by "Corporals Corner", and several others, so i have at least a basic understanding of how to use one. A small button compass should be plenty good enough for the short dayhikes i am usually on. I have used the Sun for some basic needs a couple of times in the past when i could not find the trail, and a button compass should be much better than the Sun.

      @@Wildernesswarriorbushcraft Of course, i will not choose a button compass as my main tool for navigation if i set out on a more challenging adventure. I got the Silva "Expedition S" mirror compass if i need high precision, as well as a big and a small plate compass. These are all secondary tools, and i always bring my GPS (or at least my phone) as my primary navigation tool if im going exploring new trails...
