      This. They paid someone younger who was great at 5 on 5 goals. All of stamkos goals were on power plays. He wasnt scoring 5 on 5 anymore. Ill love stamkos but the lightning had to make a decision to try to get better 5 on 5. Granted it doesn’t change that stamkos had really revived his career.

    and really this video should be retitled to "What happened between Yzerman and St. Louis" which as a result of BriseBois being there, learned these same tactics as Yzerman and wasn't afraid to pull the same trigger with Stamkos and in an even more dirty way.

    There is more over-thinking of this than anything I've seen in a bit...and I'm a Bolt Fan. The Lightning had an opportunity to get younger and better (5v5). Something they were terrible at last year. Stammer wanted what the Lightning were gonna pay Guentzle. They had nothing left (being up against the cap). They could either pay an aging Stamkos OR try to get younger (and possibly better) by paying Guentzle. They chose the later because it was the SMART thing to do, for the franchise. And we have a history of this, btw. It's a BUSINESS. And when Stammer retires and goes into the HoF as a Bolt, we'll retire his number and he'll be back for a celebration.

    Imagine Pens trading Crosby after getting them the cups and putting the team on the map.
    Imagine Caps trading Ovi after getting them the cup finally and making history.
    You do NOT trade not just your star--but the entire FACE of your franchise and CITY SPORTS--even when they get old. You stay loyal and find a middle-ground contract for them to retire with the same franchise. Tampa absolutely disgraced him and their fans.

    • @ethanparker7900
      @ethanparker7900 7 дней назад +1

      Yah i mean i understand if they wanted to move on although I was hoping he'd play his whole career with one team like crosby and ovi as you said since like them he single handedly resurrected the lightning and made future players around him stars as well but it's how they handled it. If that was the plan all along why didn't they just say so? Why did they keep giving out so many false hopes to him and the public? You know? The lack of transparency is what upsets me. I am not even a lightning fan too

      the lightning simply wanted to go in a different direction but they didn't say it properly. Instead they ket giving out false hopes that bringing him back would be the biggest priority only to turn back at the very last second.

    Stammer is free to give his version of the story and we are free to believe him... or not.
    He moved to the Preds and he got 8M/year in a contract running until he'll be 38. It's just 500k less than what he was getting with the Bolts.
    The Bolts probably made a mistake because I don't see Guentzel as a safer option than Stammer, but his contract with the Preds confirms that he was looking for money and didn't do his best to find a way to stay in Tampa 🤣
    Players should just assume they run after money more than after a Stanley Cup. Nobody will blame such honesty. Regular workers do the same.

    Whether people like it or not, wt the end of the day it's a business. Now, if something very shady happens or gets called out then I get wanting to inquire, but this move was a cap related move and not seeing him be.who he was again. Whether or not that that's the right take time will tell but I dont see him being In the league too much longer at a high skill level he has been known for. So it's a smart move for both sides.

    That is NOT why St Louis left the Lightning. It was a decision that many insiders know but it wasn't because he was initially left off the Canadian team.

    • @TBL2749
      @TBL2749 7 дней назад +1

      Source? Yes there was obviously family reasons as well that he stated but he could have actually left the team in 2010 if he wanted to for those family reasons as well after he got left off the 2010 team too and they hired Yzerman that same year. He tried to keep the talk about the trade vague afterwards but admitted in the Tampa Bay Times article that it was primarily because of being disrespected a second time by Yzerman and it left very sour taste in his mouth and requested the trade at the same time. So I mean even the timing is very convenient.
