Great explanation! Try it on a flat surface earth, so you get the N in the center of the Earth circle, and the S is on the outside. The magnetic force makes the sphere that surrounds Earth, above and below. The poles don't move, there's no tilt and the surface doesn't spin, if they did, the compasses can't hold course

Explained well but please improve audio quality, can hardly hear anything during some parts of the video.

Thanks Jeff and I agree. I have, since then, improved the audios in my other videos. still don't know why the audio issue exists unfortunately:)

I was trying to find out information about the heeling bucket and the Vertical force instrument (VFI). Correct me if I am wrong, the compass corrector will adjust your compass using the VFI for the latitude that you are in, you are supposed to compensate for an increase or decrease in latitude?(that is why the bucket has a chain) And you are supposed to reverse the magnets in the healing bucket when you have a change of hemisphere?

Absolutely George. The latitude is a key factor as it determines the dip (or the angle at which the magnetic lines of force intersect the ship); and the hemisphere is important to determine the polarity of the magnet (red or blue).

why regular comparisons of standard compass, steering compass and gyro-compasses should be made?
