  • I FINALLY figured out the BEST way to do the fabric plaster wall art (the one with the big ruffles). And as shocking as it sounds, it’s not with fabric, and it’s not with clay.
I tested out 2 ways to do it, and they both worked so well, so today I’m sharing them with you!
These 2 DIY art projects are super easy to do. With my step-by-step guide, anyone can do these.
I’m covering everything from tips and tricks to anything you need to know when you’re working with plaster, so let’s get started right away!

I love these! So organic. I'm pondering what a piece of table décor might look like with this technique - a large oval pebble with beautiful peaks or maybe as the outside finish to a wooden storage box...as always, very inspiring and lots to think about :-) Thank you for such a detailed tutorial.

Hopefully some useful advice from a another artist: 1). Add white pva glue to slow the process and prevent cracking. 2). If you aren’t using plaster (cast) strips, cut your gauze down to manageable strips to layer without wrinkles. 3). Recycle old house paint or discounted wall paint to cut costs (a LOT cheaper than artists paint). I’m a huge “reuse, recycle, repurpose artist 😉. 4). If you want to avoid brush strokes, add a flow agent; floetrol is always my go to, but thinning with water works on a lot of acrylic based paints (just not all! Always test first)

    • @HomeByMon

Wow! Those are some nice tips! 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing them! Fun fact - I always use wall paint since it's so much cheaper 🤣💞

@@HomeByMon House paint…. me, too! It’s basically the same with just minor changes for consistency. As for the plaster cast strips, a little while back, I was commissioned to make “tree stumps” for a wedding table to hold a small cake and over 200 cupcakes (the tree stumps jutted out to hold some cupcakes while also holding the main extra large platter “stump” (it was almost 4 feet wide and 3 inches deep and resembled a cross section of a trunk), then a small stump on top of the cross section to hold the tiny wedding cake that was for just the bride and groom. I was sooooo thankful to be able to get the cast strips because it helped the plaster adhere so much easier. They reused all of it by coating with a strong sealer and put them throughout their garden. Surprisingly, the plaster has held up in the Florida rain! I think it was the pva glue that helped in bonding, but definitely spraying them down with a sealer did as well. I think your work is wonderful, and thanks for not getting upset over some of my advice!

@@tomhdg What a story! I bought an acrylic sealer a month ago, but I haven't tried it yet. I will use it on a table I did with plaster and wall pait to test it. It's matt so I hope it doesn't look like it's been sealed 😅
Oh and why would I get upset 🥰 Your tips and advice is everything! Keep it up 💞

@@HomeByMonI was going to suggest pva glue as well and I also add white paint as well it gives a creamer consistency, and after u do the initial layer make the plaster a bit thicker it will hide the brush strokes and it’s easier to sand, but I really love the way they turned out, sometimes people don’t like getting hints or tips it offends them, I love getting them and I’m glad ur open to them, cos I always say the best artists never stop learning cos the best can always get better 😋

18:44 As always, I do see things in abstract... things ;-)
I forgot how this thing is named, but what matters here is what i see. I want to see how many other people see things in abstract things in art, nature w/e.
So, what i see is something like a dear or similar animal, surrounded by trees. She might be eating some leaves or something else from that part. I would love to know how to paint or draw what i see and make unique art from my own perspective.
I always love when I did photography, especially abstract one, that different people will see different things. I never wanted for people to see what i see, so that's why i never title my things. I just scribe something there but not as a title.
Cheers from a photographer and maybe in the next life a small tiny artist!? ;-) I can draw just a little bit and recently i made my first colored drawings, but i'm not sure that my health will let me continue that journey.
w/e. I do what i like to do so, i will go on on my remaining journey and without hope, will just love what life brings me and then what my ideas comes to life from that ;-)

    • @klannstyle
      @klannstyle 6 месяцев назад +1

hehe, that's kind of subjective, you know!
You are influenced by sentiment and the cute dog. But it's not wrong and as long as you see something positive for you, that's the best you can get.
I just hope that you will look around you and start to see new things and also draw them. I can't do that yet, but maybe soon i will can. I always wanted to do that and this is the most unique thing you can get.
Visuals from life and still life around you and then put them on art mediums.
I see good vibes in you and also you seem to enjoy even the tiniest thing you do. That's the spirit and keep it that way no matter what life will bring on. No matter what!
Remember that. I always see the full part of the glass even if my life is only going down with everything.
Creating new things every day, looking at other good people doing art, craft etc, that keeps me alive.
      Cheers!
