- I LOVE big aquatic box turtles, and gulf coast box turtles (Terrepene Carolina Major) fit the bill. I’ll show you my hatchlings and adults, my setups and share with you what I know about these fascinating and hardy turtles.

Great video, Greg . The males look very similar to the Mexican Box turtles males, especially the shell.
Just found a baby turtle 🐢 under branches from a tree that fell on our yard. It's about the size of a grapefruit. Adorable.
So, we're fensed in. We're confused about how it made its way in. Lol....I might take it to our local city lake. I see turtles there.

Does this species go hibernate? I live in indonesia and it's very hard to replicate winter season here

I live in Texas near the gulf coast. I have two young gulf coast box turtles. They are rescues that were brought in to my husband's vet clinic. . Your have been such a great help in making sure that I give them the best care I can.

My daughter found a Gulf Coast Box Turtle, so in a sense we rescued it... Have any tips for keeping it indoors... Or is it best to let it go back into the wild?
Release it back where found. Taking turtles from the wild is not a “rescue”, and in most states box turtles are protected and taking wild ones is illegal. Just enjoy them as they are 👍🏼❤️
@@GregsTurtleHaven wheres the best place to let them go? We are in the middle of a big city... It will end up dying if I let it out in the back yard (she found it in our back yard)
That was interesting, so are they actually hybrids? Some looked more like Easterns and some like Three Toed.
Technically they would be integrades since it’s subspecies overlapping in ranges. Gulf coast box turtles are recognized currently as a subspecies, Terrepene Carolina Major. I believe since Putnami is extinct, the resulting turtles are considered to be their own subspecies, with differing appearance and genetics depending on range

Box turtles are awesome. Eastern and Gulf Coast huge favorites. Both male and females beautiful Turtles.
I have 3 cb eastern box turtle I'm raising out but definitely want some gulf coast after seeing this video. I want various box turtle 👀💚🐢🐢🐢

Greg, I have a couple three-toed box turtles and was wondering if you know of any kinds of plants that I could put in their enclosure that they would like to feed on?
If it’s anything they would eat, it may not last long unless it’s a big enclosure.
@@GregsTurtleHaven Yeah, its a large enclosure and they aren't full grown yet. Any ideas?
I planted strawberries and cherry tomatoes in my enclosure. They love it. The strawberries get eaten before they even turn red. The tomatoes ripen on the plant then fall and are eaten immediately when they hit the ground.

How do you keep raccoons out of your turtle enclosures?
They have to feel safe! So true. It is their first requirement for my box turtle babies also.Food and warmth makes sense to them naturally after safety.
Basic needs, but if you can cover them and provide extra, you’ll have happy turtles

I found a baby eastern a few weeks ago in with my adults. I found two nests with about six eggs each that hatched. Hopefully the rest weren't eaten
Gotta watch those adults closely. Try adding some extra cover and flipping it morning and evening to check for babies
@@GregsTurtleHaven Thanks for the advice. I have a male that reacts to movement, it goes after birds if they land in the enclosure.

They don’t hatch until later in the summer. A buddy has some right now. His name is Cameron Lamb and you can find him on FB or fauna.
