dude.....it would make me so nervous to be hooked into a fish that big out of a yak
I got nervous a few times when I locked down the drag and she had me sittin sideways
The adrenaline rush is Imposible to explain....I hooked a 6ft tarpon a few weeks ago from my old town predator pdl....fought the fish for almost 40 minutes....could not feel my arms for a while.
I'm 0-14 on tarpon. My arch nemesis!

lojo.fishing I've never been saltwater on my kayak (probably a BAD idea for my 9.5 ft river yak) but I hooked up with a 30"+ muskie in mine. I was bringing in a much smaller perch and that muskie decided to munch my lunch. Had no steel leader on and when he was within 5 feet of me he spit the perch. That muskie pulled my kayak for about 20 minutes and DEFINITELY would have been a trophy for me ( though the fish would go back to its home in the lake)
What made the suspense even greater is when you stated how you had to get in because of the tide and waves coming back in. I never thought it was going to show and man when it did, epic Rooster Rob.
Yeahhhh man normally it’s no big deal because we launch and land in a protected cove, but this day the swell was BIG. You can’t tell in the video because they’re big spread out rollers, but we were marking 12 footers all day. The reef still protected us but it was big back at the beach. I didn’t have my camera rolling for the worst of it so I could concentrate on helping the clients. All totally worth it in the end!
How that fish didn't flip your kayak is beyond me, great catch.

Brilliant !!!! what rod and reel did you fight the rooster on ?? Not seeing it in your vid description.. you use another in your other videos with a red rod .. trying to find a good rod for my fin nor lethal LTL 20 and LTL 30 for kayak and boat use
The reel is a Sielger Reels LG, the rod is a Star rod, I forget which model (it belongs to the lodge)

We’re using Hobie Outbacks
My biggest fish ever is a 50+ pound stingray I hooked off the beach. I was using a cheap $15 Shakespeare Catfish reel and a 10 foot surf rod that I got from a garage sale.............I had been catching all kinds of nice fish (under 10 pounds) off the beach, and then the ray hit! Fought him for about 15-20 min off the beach using 50 pound braid with a 20 pound leader and finally landed him. That was the most insane fight I have ever had with a fish and my biggest fish to date! Biggest freshwater fish was a 12.05 pound carp I sight fished out of a river on a 6'6" Walmart spinning rod and a Casting 2000 size reel..........yeah I seem to always catch big fish on cheap gear lol! Great video Robert!

As always bro great video! Biggest for me is an approximately 6 ft nurse shark by st George island FL. 1 of my best nights though was sitting at a beach in staten island for about 10 hrs and just when I was packing up.....click click CLICK ....FISH ON! 38 1/2 striper followed by 2 30 inch blues. That's the thing about fishing, you never know what kind of a day it will be. Anyway...my apologies for rambling on but it's cold in nyc and I'm missing being out there but thanks to you I get to sit here and enjoy quality fishing. Ok done lol..... thank you Robert Campos lol

I just started yak fishing the So Cal coast... been watching your channel for about 4 hrs now... would it make sense to wear a belt for fights against that huge rooster? It might be uncomfortable to ride with it on... but the rod wouldn't dig into your stomach or jewels. Any tips for a beginner salt water yak fisherman? I'm on a Perception Pescador 12 now. I need to save some coins in order to get into a Hobie, with pedals for sure.
I started on a Pescador 12, great boat for the price. Fighting belt is an option but it’s cumbersome. As for tips just watching videos and fishing with guys who know what they’re doing is the best way to learn
