I love that they name all their characters after Russian hockey players. Mikhailov and Kamensky. So many subtleties. The GUM report. You don't see that on Three CP2!
From what I could tell, the naming of Caesar's chief nemesis as "Bluto" in this bit was a reversal of the made-for-TV King Features "Popeye" cartoon shorts of the 1960's where the sailor's rival was renamed Brutus.
I always loved SCTV, and it was Canadian, so I guess this when they were going for the Murrican market, but... Funny to see the Yanks with Trump now under the thumb of Russia. Oh how the mighty have fallen
mike: Huh. In Central America, in the seventies, you could pick it up in some places, broadcast in English from Cuba. Believe me, it was not great Radio.
The TV camera is actually an old refrigerator on it's side! lol
If we had read the SCTV version of Julius Caesar in 9th grade instead of the Shakespeare version, I might have paid more attention.
I read that play in 10th grade.
And I concur.
"Friend's, romans, countrymen ,lend me your ears". We had to remember the whole speech.
I wish the SCTV guys had done the whole history of the Roman Empire.
Omg the new mini cam! 😂 and their lapel mics the size of a banana 😝
Bobby Bitman was simply awesome!!
Those authentic Roman Empire era eyeglasses were spot on.
They were so ahead of their time. Brilliant.
Timeless.
I love that they name all their characters after Russian hockey players. Mikhailov and Kamensky. So many subtleties. The GUM report. You don't see that on Three CP2!
Ha ha ya the names cracked me up too.
From what I could tell, the naming of Caesar's chief nemesis as "Bluto" in this bit was a reversal of the made-for-TV King Features "Popeye" cartoon shorts of the 1960's where the sailor's rival was renamed Brutus.
Seems legit
No socks with his new worker shoes, priceless!
I love the fact that the final straw for Joe Flaherty was that horrible "heel" pun.
Bobbie Bitman as Caesar. Only on SCTV.
"Later they'll tour the Serbsky Institute for the Politically Insane"
God I miss these guys
Best Shakespeare I've ever seen. Someone needs to do all his tedious writing like that, I'd pay to see it.
SCTV was prescient: Russia Today just "interrupted" C-SPAN.
This was such a brilliant premise, and absolute comic gold!
@thurin68 absolutely, these guys were amazing.....
Classic in every sense of the word
Notice they do not mention Three CP0. Three CP0 is never to be mentioned.
This is f*king brilliant..
John Candy's character is called "Bluto." I know the story and I don't think there was a Bluto involved. But there sure as hell should have been.
New shoes but no socks
Happy Ides of March everyone! And if you're an emperor, beware...
I wonder if Caesar ever pointed to a woman and said "Seize her!"?
"Sure I seez her, she's right there!"
Red Green lol The Three Stooges' Curly I believe
mike: If he had, it would have been in Latin, so the joke wouldn't work.
RT news in its beginnings
Politically Insane. 5:05
3:50 that looks like the p 250 we used in the navy, it pumps 250 gallons a minute.
Caesar…is potato.
HAHAHA UM ROMANO DE ÓCULOS!
can you imagine living at a time when you had to worry about Russia hacking into your media?
At 1:48 they clearly has placed the Red Lettering "Today in Moscow" above something in white. Does anyone know what that was and why they did this?
..."New Soviet mini-cam"...SCTV was as good as SNL 1975-1982.
it was better in my opinion.
Wayyyy better
You don't laugh hysterically at "No Pepsi, Coke!"... me neither. SNL sucked compared to this.
SNL has never even been close. Ackroyd, Chase, Murray, Radner, era, not bad TV, but not even close.
I always loved SCTV, and it was Canadian, so I guess this when they were going for the Murrican market, but... Funny to see the Yanks with Trump now under the thumb of Russia. Oh how the mighty have fallen
I miss the cold war.
it'll be back
mgab: We won the cold war, but we are in danger of losing the hot peace.
@@lancelink2812 it's already here and has been here for at least the past decade.
Iranian amateurs....Russia! That's even worse! Still the same today!
3 C P 1
I remember this whole show well. outstanding! Great stab at the Ruskies during the cold war.
I wonder if parts of Canada could pick up Soviet TV if the weather was right?
No, it can't. And Russian TV is different from North American TV, so it won't show up on North American TV at all.
Yes they could, but it was fluffy at best.
mike: Huh. In Central America, in the seventies, you could pick it up in some places, broadcast in English from Cuba. Believe me, it was not great Radio.
Russian collusion
"What will the State think of next". Kinda like CBC and CTV coverage of anything climate related.
Loved the assassination of Julius Caesar skit . The USSR thing is a stereotype but i like it too .
GUM is now privatized
Sounds like Obama blaming the Russians LOL
