I suspect if you've been following these concerts, you recognize the improvisation in the tunes. This has been a part of Robert Fripp's work; it's inspiring to hear these guys whipping it out, all having immense technical abilities in the honor of this tradition. As a jazz player, amongst other approaches including full improvisational groups, this is so satifying personally. I'm speechless other than in this post.
I saw them in Ft. Lauderdale. The improvisation was the best part. They were absolutely exposed and that takes courage and talent. No safety net! Very happy to see great musicians create great music in person.
Something I've not heard anyone say is how good Adrian & Tony's harmonies STILL are. I've missed that in the latest Crim lineup. Neither one of them had a setlist like Steve Vai did. I ran into Tony shopping on King Street Sunday afternoon before their show in Charleston - fist bump!
5th row at this show…. It was REEE-diculously good. Awesome, one might say… and yeah, Belew and Levin, tearin’ it to pieces in their 70’s. Perma-grin all night.
I saw them the next night in clearwater , florida at ruth eckerd hall. It was a phenomenal concert. one of the best i've ever seen. I'm a huge Jethro Tull fan. My favorite concert ever was the Thick as a Brick tour in 1972. But this was just as good, maybe better. I will never miss another concert of their's, if it's close to me. Just Incredible..
Yeah, I'm hoping this keeps going in some form or other indefinitely. Maybe they could get different people for different tours if some of these members had other obligations. I would love to see the King Crimson musical legacy live on.
Wow, they are really nailing it as a band now... so good. Danny Carey is beginning to really shine too. By the end of the tour they will be just ridiculous!

I don’t have words for what an incredibly talented musician Tony Levin is. The entire band is phenomenal but as an amateur bassist and stick adventurer Tony an inspiration to me. Beat on boys and thank you for Charleston and Charlotte!

Great job filming this epic show! You had a great spot, and you did a great job holding the camera steady. I'm going to see them in December, and i was hoping to get a preview of what was in store. Looks like it's going to be a legendary night, for sure.
I'm happy Beat happened. I understand Bill Bruford is retired. Praise be to Bill! But Danny is awesome! Tony is forever ridiculously good. Adrian is Adrian. If he fucks up, it's just a new interpretation. I love Steve Vai. I'm not used to his interpretations of these songs. I miss Fripp. But I'm glad Steve stepped in to fill the void!
Steve, Adrian, Tony and Danny together, what more could you ask for??? Best musicians to play the best King Crimson ever, where are you Robert and Bill???
VIP in Clearwater, great to finally meet them after seeing the 2 albums (Beat, Perfect Pair 2x) 40 years ago! THE MORALE of the band was radiant, and that what set them apart from... well, other bands of this nature. wink wink Steve Vai taking part is one of the greatest ideas in music that I've seen in a while. Danny, too, he said he has Bill's Dragon toms! my fav
So true. And his lyrics. I got to ask him after the show in Dallas, "How come your voice sounds better every time I hear you?" Everybody around just laughed and agreed with much enthusiasm. He just shook his head, smiling as usual, and said, "Thanks. I have no idea." I think it's his genuine joy in making music that shines through his instruments.
For some reason the silly little rushing to the mic but faking everyone out never gets old. I have seen it several times now, and it still makes me smile every time. Even the other guys in the band, who have seen it over and over and know it's coming often smile.
I’ve been to their second show in Napa, loved it. But now they sound even more amazing, relaxed, adventurous, experimental. I really hope there will be an official live recording by the end of the tour. And my special thanks to Danny for bringing that original Simmons sound back. Also so thrilled to hear Personal Jesus vibes on Indiscipline (who could have thought)
I love Robert Fripp but I am certainly impressed at how Steven Vai covers Robert Fripp's role in this band. Adrian Belew and Tony Levin are awesome as they always are. Until this tour I was not familiar with Danny Carey. He sounds great and must be very talented to perform with Levin, Belew and Vai.
I think Vai and Carey added nor subtracted from the original. I saw them in Biston and will see them in Hartford. It is one of the best shows I have ever been to.
It's not Robert Fripp, but hey, I am all into Steve Vai...............it's different. So relevant 40 years later. I saw them live in 1984 @ The Greek Theater Berkeley. Happy 40th Anniversary !
Thanks for posting. Saw the original lineup in the 80's. This incarnation is as close as you'll ever get. And it's great in it's own way. I'm sure Robert and Bill are looking on as spectators, both curious and proud - no different than parents wondering how it all happened. I'll be seeing them in a few days. We are truly blessed. 🙏
Just great! It’s exciting when one is surprised by music again. I missed all of this in the 80’s but loved the Sylvian/Fripp album and shows which I saw in the U.K. (The resulting live album Damage was released as a mix by Sylvian then later by Fripp. Wonderful collaboration) Part of this set reminded me of the album “I advance masked” by Fripp/Andy Summers.
This thing is really coming together. They could ride this into retirement ..might be the most satisfying artistic expression for these gents with their experience and age..
Thank you for posting this. I went to the Fort Lauderdale show and it was mind blowing! Only downside to being in the front row was security. Security was standing right infront of me the whole time so I couldn’t even record one song.
I'm only now starting to appreciate the stick bass that Tony plays. I saw these guys a week ago, and am planning to take my daughter to see them in a month, if tickets are available! Love Adrian and Tony!
I caught the ATL show and had plans to make it to this show but Helene had me nervous about the commute from the panhandle. What a show! PLEASE let there be a live album release!
btw Bassist Tony Levin sings a pretty ode in a cappella style to all of his drummers he played with on RUclips. Check: "Tony Levin - On the Drums (2024 Mix)"
I would definitely enjoy seeing these guys live, but I don't fancy driving 7 hours on a Wednesday by myself to do so. Unfortunate that they're stopping in St Louis instead of Kansas City, imo KC has far superior venues, and a larger extended metro area to sell tickets to. Looks like it would be a great show, despite the fact that Steve Vai can't quite hang with Fripp on songs like Frame by Frame, it's still interesting to hear his take on those parts.
I don't understand the musical vocabulary of a lot of these tunes (not in the same way as I've internalized something like TAAB by Tull)...I imagine this is what an alien group in the Cantina Bar (in Star Wars) would sound like to a regular Earthling....but I'm excited to see them in Cincinnati at the end of this month. P.S. Not really new to Crimson as I've listened to their 70s output quite a bit, but their music from the 80s is new to me.
