I absolutely love your camera repair videos...methodical, easy to follow. SO cool that you take the time to do this for people! Also, your filming technique transcends the need for language. A+ Mate!
I think it would be useful to make a video showing how to do a CLA. Show us where to lube the drive train for shutter and winding mechanisms etc. Great videos by the way, you have helped many people to work on their cameras.
Your videos are great! My frame counter stopped working on my Leica MP. It is reset but does not advance when I wind. Do you have a video where you access this part of the Leica?
Thank you for the video! I have a small question. I want to mod my M6 to have a black frame counter ring inside. I've got the part in black itself, the problem however is that the metal part it sits on that has an arrow pointing towards the current frame is in silver. I would like to paint that part black and paint the arrow in white lacquer. Is it safe to disassemble that part to get access to this silvery metal part where the frame counter and the shutter release button sits? Thanks!
Hi, Thanks for sharing this amazing video. I have ordered the tools to get my M2's top plate off, just wonder is it hard to take the viewfinder elements apart? I see some sort of fungus there and just want clean it out. Cheers!!
Hi Mike! Thanks for the video! Could you teach me how to take off the frame selector lever? My plastic part of frame selector got fall off. but before that, do I need to take off the lever or I can just install it?
Hi, It's just as easy to take the whole gear out for cleaning. Flash shoe off then you just have one screw to release it. It must be taken out at the back if the VF/RF assembly is left in place.
Hi Mike, awesome video!! Can i know where to get the clamp tool ? and what are the sizes ? just found your recommended link is no longer working from your previous reply. thanks (:
+mingsOng Tan Thank's, Here I found another link to the clamp tool's: www.amazon.com/Pieces-Wrench-Repair-Series-Pitted-avoid/dp/B00BV0G5XO/ref=pd_sim_sbs_421_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=61Y0DLFalmL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=15PFC51J7TZ6CX4CD1PN Cheers Kenneth
Mike, great video. What cleaning fluid do you use to clean the inside window on the top plate of the M6 (mine is an M4-P) that can get a haze on it? Is it an alcohol solution? Thanks for posting these great videos, I'm sure a lot of time goes into doing them!
Hi Joeita I'm very sure you also can do this, it's not a "complicated" operation, just be carefull about the rangefinder and the slow gear, and of course use the good tool's. Take your time and take also a lot's photos during the operation so you have a kind of backup. You will ended up with a much better camera.., and then your repair hobby begins ;-) (I know the feeling about when i took my first Leica M6 camera apart some years ago, but it was a BIG success for me and the camera, when it was done and working proper..., and still do so) cheers kenneth
Well, Juan, I have no idea where to buy spareparts for Leica cameras or other of Leica's equipment, but maybe on Ebay there could be some people there would sell there broken camera's as spareparts.
Hi Mike! Thanks for posting! Your videos are amazing! May I ask you a thnig? I have a nikkor 105 F2.5 Ai lens and the aperture ring in sloppy and not snappy, so that I almost cannot feel the aperture change. What can I do? Could you post something about that? :-) Thank you! Riccardo
Hi Riccardo I guess the aperture ring feels like there are some old grease that gets a bit sticky, so the ring do not have the snappy feeling. would take off the bajonet and the aperture ring....., remember there are 2 small screws on the side of the aperture ring that hold's a "fork" at the inside, that are connect to the aperture system at the lens system, you can use a small piece of foam to keep this "fork", so it not fall's into the inner helicoil. Now, clean the aperture ring and where it sit's at the on the body with Lighter Fluid, then use some small amount of light grease so the aperture ring feels easy and snappy. hope it helps you Cheers kenneth
Philippe Denaiss you can use a paper towel and just stick it in there. works just fine and does no damage. just blow out any dust that might be left behind.
+Vishal Vora Without seeing the lens, I would guess you should look inside the film camber, under the take up roll. You can unscrew the take up roll and then lift it out, so you have better access. It can also be that you should look at the driving roll beside the take up roll, there is a small pin that should unlock when moving the film advance lever.... Just some ideas. Cheers Kenneth
+mikeno62 Thanks for your reply. It was a case of lubrication so I treated the camera to a CLA service in Melbourne. All is working nicely now and looking forward to having my first shots back soon. With best wishes, Vishal
WEIKUN HUA You can buy the clamp here: www.micro-tools.de/en/Flexi-Clamps-oxid/Leica-M-Flexiclamp-Set.html And the JIS screwdrivers here: www.micro-tools.com/store/C-NIWA/JIS-Type-S-Screwdrivers.aspx Cheers Kenneth
Hi Edilberto In my experience in different oil for slow gear's, is that the best oil is thin sewing machine oil. I have also try the teflon grease and it's simply too heavy so the gear will get stuck, because there is not very much power in the spring of the slow gear. Therefor, only use small drops of the very thin oil.
Well, here is 2 better video of working with the slow gear: PART 1: ruclips.net/video/VTmf3LTm3m8/видео.html PART 2: ruclips.net/video/sYOt-BJdIkc/видео.html The slow gear was very sticky in this Leica M6, I did a mistake when I put slow gear back in again, because I should not have moved the exposure button away from 1/1000, it has to stay there when putting in the slow gear and the long spring. I was too tired, and it remind's me of, don't repair when one is too tired, because something can go wrong...

Hi mikeno, is there an easy fix for a frame counter on an M6 that does not reset to 0 when the bottom plate is removed?

Hi Ciaoceo
Sooner there will com a video about that lens with oil on the aperture blades, that's a commen problem with that lens.

Hi, thanks for the video! Did you make the tool to block the rewind knob? or can i buy it somewhere?
Philippe Denais Yes I made the tool out of a tube from a gas regulator..
Philippe Denaiss you can use a paper towel and just stick it in there. works just fine and does no damage. just blow out any dust that might be left behind.
Jud Muir Yeah, it's good to use different materials to make tool's :-)
Hi Mike, how does one lubricate the rewind lever on the front of the body? Mine is not auto resetting upon advancing the film rewinder lever. Thanks.

how much do you charge to fix Leica M6 camera?
Sorry, but I do not have repair service.
what type of oil do you use?
Hi Edilberto
The oil i use, is Very thin Sewing machine oil.
mikeno62 Thank you for your response one more question would it be ok to put some teflon grease instead.
mikeno62 what glue are you using to put the for the black rangefinder window
Hi Edilberto

Hi Edilberto
To glue the black rangefinder window, i just use 2 drop's of contact glue, works very good..
That ''leitz'' logo wetzlar made M6 is the oldest variant of the m6

Way too dark to see any detail, Which is what the whole thing is really about.
