  • This is a commen problem with Leica M, that the slow gear just need 2-3 drops of lighter fluid, to get the old oil evaporate out at the same time when you do some GENTLY MOVEMENTS with the slow gear.
    Let it stay 5 min. and then just add TINY DROP's of thin sewing machine oil into the axel's and gear wheel's in the slow gear.
    Again, do some GENTLY movements to get oil to work proper.

    Thanks for sharing this! Super helpful. Do you ever add any grease/oil to any of the advance lever components when reassembling? (Asking because I am about to reassemble my M3)

    Kenneth, my M3 double stroke is stuck halfway through the second wind. The shutter is not cocked and the gears are stuck 1/4 turn before they would be in the advanced and cocked position. Is this a problem with the intermediate gear in the double stroke getting out of time? Or is this a shutter issue

    Hello, I have seen your video many times but I'm still a little lost. I've seen in other videos that it can be fixed in the bottom plate but I still don't understand which one of the screws I need to tight and which way. The problem with my shutter is that (when set in 1 second) the shutter curtains doesn't open entirely. It does open perfectly when set in Bulb. Thanks for sharing it means a lot.

      @mikeno62  6 лет назад

      There are 2 special screw's, close to the film container (with the film inside) that is used to adjusting the curtain's, and it could be the issue that one or both curtain's need to be adjusted, but just a little.

    This is super helpful, thanks! Where can I get the tool used at 2:46, 3:09, 5:12 and what names do they have? I'm aware you've probably made them yourself, but would these be available to buy online somewhere? thank you!

    my shutter does NOT wind at all; or release with the release? disassembled top and body cover and bottom inside cover; all off. I can wind the cloth drum curtain roll up and 2nd curtain follows, let go and slow speed gear engages at one sec and it closes nicely. film advance winder placed back on and it is very shift to turn, no release? whats wrong? Thanks Don.

      +Eastwestphoto Well, without seeing the camera I would guess you should look at the breake that is located in the lower part of the body, under the drum, sometimes it get's stuck, because of age or sometimes rust. You could try ad a few drop's of Lighter Fluid (Zippo..etc.etc) to freeing up the breake.
      Try also look at the self timer sometimes it gives some problems with the shutter because it not fullfil the sequence andthe shutter get's stuck... Just some ideas..
      Cheers

    hi, how can i get the 5'04" tool? it look like a pen barrel? can you tell me the brand/model plz. Thank you so much.

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  7 лет назад +1

      Well, it's actually a "cheap" "Duracell" penlight, it's made of alluminium, and I have modified the tube inside to 11,80mm, so it fit's tight on the retaining ring.
      Hope it makes sense.
      Cheers

      +g1m1u To take out the slow gear, you can take a look on another of my films, this is actually about the problem you ask for, and it's the same way.

      Tried this method but it doesn't seem to work for M3's. The slow gear mechanism is getting jammed on the rangefinder.
      I think i'll need to remove the entire rangefinder to get to the gear.
      Thanks again.

    Thank you very much for the vdo. I'm having the same problem..i guess 😅 my m3 shutter is not accurate since 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 ... sometimes it's sound ok but some time all sound like 1/15 😅 do you think the method in your vdo will fix all?

      I have made 2 videos about the sticky slow gear in the Leica M6, but it's the same problem like in the M3, you can see the videos here:

    At Minute 10.24 looks like you are using a Home-Made Tool to unlock the Spanner Nut underneath the Leica M3
    Film Advance Lever. It looks you used some kind of box wrench.
    I don't have the right tools to fabricate a Home-Made tool like that.
    My question is do you think Micro-Tools has the proper toll to unlock the Spanner Nut underneath the Leica M3
    Film Advance Lever ? or perhaps some other tool manufacturer ?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  8 лет назад

      +Orlando Neves Well Orlando, I have never seen Leica's tool's so I don't know how they look. It's therefore I make my own, and you are right, it is a box wrench I have grinded and file, so it fit on the Spanner nut under the film advance lever.
      I have no idea if Micro-tools have them or what the name is.
      Cheers
      Kenneth

    Hey. Where did you get those tools that looks like they're made of kopper, that you used for the round nuts?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  10 лет назад

      Hey
      The "kobber" tool for the ring nut under the reverse knob is made of 5-6mm Bronze plate.
      I drill a 11,6 mm hole and cut a LOOONG thin slice away so I can adjust this new wrench a little, to fit the ring nut proper.
      Begin with drill a 3mm hole and then a 6-8mm drill and then the 11,6mm. Do do it more gently and at slower speed, the bigger the drill are, the Bronze will get VERY HOT and a bit soft.
      Hope it helps :-)

      Hi Lars NL, I found those brass ring spanners on eBay. I cannot remember exactly how much they cost me as they were "Buy Now" basis.

  • @dude7etnies
    @dude7etnies 9 лет назад

    So that wrench was filed to work like a spanner?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  9 лет назад

      dude7etnies Yes, that's correct because I have a very good grip on the, sometimes very, very tight retaining ring. I have never seen the tool that Leica works with so I make it myself, from what I have in my workshop.
      Cheers

    An old Bic pen, melted by flame can be smashed to the correct size. Then use a dremel grinder to cut a deep wide slot in! It will work perfectly to hold the prongs so you can unscrew. Cheap Tool!

      No, I do not have so much money to buy them :-( and all the problem with getting spare parts (that's impossible from Leica).
      I had repair for some shop's, but not anymore. And there are NO professional Leica repair tech to ask about different problems, in there cameras and lenses....
