As someone who grew up in the American Southwest, the deep American southwest, and has lived in several locations across it, I can 100% confirm this music literally just softly carries on the wind at all times, but also like 15-20% of the southwest looks like this. A lot of it is actually mountainous forest/forest alpine, along with kinda rocky, mountainous tan wasteland desert with valleys. The whole massive ‘monument valley’ rock spires and beautifully carved slot canyon and Grand Canyon environment is almost exclusively located to northeastern arizona, north western New Mexico, and northern Arizona along border territory of Utah

    • @AverageJoExplorations
      @AverageJoExplorations 2 года назад +19

I also grew up in the American Southwest. I spent the first ten years of my adulthood traveling old desert trails and mountain roads. And you're right, the traditional "desert" landscapes that most people think of make up maybe 20% of the total landscape. The forests are usually made up of Ponderosa pine and juniper trees, or Joshua trees in Nevada and California. There's even the occasional wetland near large desert springs. The desert is a very diverse biome and a lot of people don't know it.

From Las Vegas, to Flagstaff, Globe, and Tucson… and more. I adore the southwest, and I can’t imagine living elsewhere. What’s more, actually being *from* this region, having roots and growing up here is a rarity and truly a blessing. Be sure to count it.

It really came alive at night, and there was so much more life all over that place than people realize. I will never forget the sunsets, either. Very true. But I think my favorite times in the SW desert is after 2AM, if you're traveling by highway, and that time, well after sunset, where there's still, impossibly, some light in the western sky. Colors I don't know the names of stretching up to the universe-colored sky, just bright enough to silhouette the cacti, boulders and an occasional billboard for a long-shuttered "Old John's Reptile Attraction, Gas and Bar 33 Mi." or Burma Shave sign somehow unliberated from its desert home.
And speaking of desert feels, there's always:
And the sun hit the derrick,
      cast a batwing shadow
Up against the car door on the shotgun side
And when they pulled her from the wreck
You know she still had on her shades
They say that dreams are growing wild
      Just this side
      Of Burma Shave

As someone who grew up in Tempe, Arizona, i can confirm this is music plays during the apocalypse, as sheriffs and cowboys (sry for the stereotype, its to seem dramatic) look at what's left of the desert from the top of a mountain. Happens every other day, so for anyone who's new to Arizona, to watch it happen, go to the top of a mountain. It's much more cenimatic from up there.

    Glass, flat and forever
It stretches out and never stops
Unless it finds the hills whose lines rise to mountain peaks
    Far as far can be
    #15
There is a breeze out here
    That filters through the scrub
Over hills and down through long dry riverbeds

To the ears of those who listen
