I just purchased a Mac Mini M1. Can I connect it to my 2012 iMac if I don't have another display monitor using this Luna device? The whole reason why I purchased the Mac Mini was because my old iMac monitor is in perfect condition and I would hate to "recycle" it as recommended by Apple because it is too old to trade in. I hope to get your input because I do not want to buy the Luna device if I have to also get another monitor to make it work. Great videos by the way! Thanks!

Hello Lamar :) Nice video. I just ordered luna display a few days ago, but i'm sad to hear that the primary monitor cannot be connected via usb-c. Since i'm using LG 5K monitor with my m1 mac mini, and the monitor has only usb-c thunderbolt way of connecting, does it mean i will not be able to use luna display for secondary monitor? Hey Nikola 👋! Thank you, glad you like the video, stay tuned for more. Yeah, I don’t think it’s gonna work, you can try and see if it does when you get it. I am having trouble using the Logitech Combo Touch with Luna Display. Neither the keyboard nor the trackpad work at all. When I use Sidecar the keyboard (except for the space bar) DOES work but the trackpad still does not. I am using a M1 mini with the iPad Air 3rd Gen. Any advice? Thanks.
Can I have my mac mini at home and have my ipad as a monitor so that I can operate the mac mini when I am at my workplace ? For example leave the mac mini on at home and just take my ipad with me ?
Yes, check the links in the description for a USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to DisplayPort cable and you can use that to connect your iPad to an external monitor or tv. 👍💪
I’ve never tried any kind of video editing with it in headless mode, I mainly just used it as a second display using my iMac, I have another video on that. 👍💪
This was awesome vid! Thank you for this. I’m fairly new to the mac mini and iPad Pro mashup so I have a question. Why not just use sidecar? Is this way better than using the other option?
Thank you! Glad you appreciate the video, stay tuned for more. 👍💪 Sidecar is still a very good option, Luna Display is kinda like Sidecar V2 with lower latency and more features that I didn’t get into for the video. Plus you’re able to use your iPad Pro as the main monitor for your M1 Mac Mini, which is something you can’t do with the regular sidecar. Here’s a more detailed side by side comparison between Luna Display and Sidecar 👉 shop.astropad.com/pages/luna-vs-apple-sidecar
I connected my ipad with mac pro and it immediately accepted it as a sec screen! How different it could be. We might not need any device just connect ipad with cable and u r done and later it connects without cable!
Yes, the iMac will only be used as a Display. If you have photoshop on the M1 Mac Mini it will run faster. Here’s a video how to use the iMac as a monitor. ruclips.net/video/eFi_7OVy2BQ/видео.html 👍💪
Thank you! 👍💪 The iPad Pro is great, mine is the 2018 model and it’s still super powerful. You can use this setup with almost any other iPad though not just the Pro.
The M1 Mac Mini has to be with you, connected to the same WiFi network or connected by USB. If you want to remote access your M1 Mac Mini at home, use services like TeamViewer, it’s just a bit more laggy. 👍💪
My (continuing) problem is I only have one each Bluetooth Magic Keyboard and Mouse. I can’t get the new Mac Mini to even recognize it doesn’t have either the keyboard or mouse. It times out at 20 seconds and shuts off.
Can you extend out to multiple Macs? Example my host Mac is a M1 Mac mini, I would plug in 1 Luna usb-c adapter into the Mac mini, and connect to a 2011 iMac via thunderbolt 3 to a thunderbolt 2 cable. I believe this setup is fully functional, correct? ...now if I want to add a second 2011 iMac to the setup would I need another Luna USB-c adapter piece?
In this video I show how to connect the M1 Mac Mini to an iMac ruclips.net/video/eFi_7OVy2BQ/видео.html. Regarding having 2 iMacs connected to the M1 Mac Mini with a single or double Luna adapters I’m not sure, if I had another Mac I’d experiment with it and see if I could get it to work. If you have any luck with it let me know. 👍💪
It has lower latency, you can use it from longer distances, and you’re able to use the iPad as the main monitor which is something sidecar can’t do. 👍💪
Thank you and you’re welcome. Glad you appreciate the video. Yeah, I try to make my videos very easy to understand, and show real world use case of how different people will use the products so they can have an idea. 👍💪
hello, thank you for the nice video. It is not clear for me, what are the differences with side car ( I watched the video entirely ) what are the benefits ? Also you have an Apple Pencil, how does it perform with Luna ? When you use USB-c connection, do you need the dongle to be plugged in ? Or astropad software is enough ( in that case what is the point of the dongle ? )
Hey There 👋! Sorry if it wasn’t clear for you. Luna Display has lower latency when compared to sidecar, so things will be a lot smoother. Sidecar does not allow you to use your iPad as the main monitor, and the range from your Mac to iPad is much shorter with sidecar. From my testing the pencil works great, I don’t use it as much, I just use the mouse. With a USB-C connection the dongle is required to be plugged in. For a side by side comparison here’s a more detailed breakdown on their website: shop.astropad.com/pages/luna-vs-apple-sidecar
Hey there 👋! If you have a smaller portable monitor it has to be physically connected to the M1 Mac Mini at all times. With the Luna Display you're able to access the M1 Mac Mini wirelessly. 👍💪
No, if you're doing it wirelessly it needs to be on the same WiFi network. If you don't have WiFi, you can connect it with a USB-C cable to the M1 Mac Mini. 👍💪
WiFi is just a wireless network, just like how you would have a Wired Local Network. If you need that network to be connected to the internet then you would add an internet connection to it. You can setup wireless networks to communicate wirelessly off the internet. Ever noticed you have full wifi bars on your phone but no internet connection? That means your internet connection is down but your WiFi network is still active and can communicate with your other wireless devices on the network. Here's some more info for you: www.cnet.com/how-to/home-networking-explained-part-4-wi-fi-vs-internet/
Pity, I would love to have this but alas, I have to use a USB to DIsplayPort from Mac Mini M1 to monitor as the HDMI for the monitor is already in use. I guess I'll explore sidecar.
I don’t quite understand is Mac mini basically a macs functions that can plug in to iPad to make iPad work like a Mac? Can it be used via an iPad for coding and web design?
Hello! Is it possible to leave the application open on the Mac mini and be able to access it from anywhere with the iPad Pro without necessarily being under the same internet connection?
Hey there 👋! No, there’s no way to remote access it. They both need to be connected to the same WiFi network, no internet is required just a WiFi connection from a router. To remote access like you want, you can try services like TeamViewer and remote access into your M1 Mac Mini from anywhere on your iPad Pro. Not sure you’ll have the same performance, but it’s another option. 👍💪
@@LamarMK oh thanks! Awesome info! For some reason this never came up when i was googling it. Now you've answered this question! Thank you! 👏🙏✌🏻 ...subscribe well deserved
You can use sidecar as a second display, but you can’t take it as far as I did with the Luna Display or use it as the main display without another monitor. 👍💪
Whether it's Luna or Sidecar, I wish it'd be more functional when using it with the Magic Keyboard, essentially turning it into a sole laptop. I'll keep dreaming 🤞
Lol you had me confused for a minute, I was like it works perfectly with the regular desktop Magic Keyboard. I guess you’re talking about the iPad Pro’s Magic Keyboard, Apple needs to fix this naming things lol. 😂 But yeah, it’s fully functional with the iPad Keyboard case except for trackpad gesture support, pretty sure Apple can allow that in a software update, but people would start using the iPad instead of buying New MacBooks. At least with this setup macOS has touch and gesture support on screen, just not on the trackpad. 👍💪
Hello @RNerissa I’m using Luna Display with iPad Magic Keyboard (there is not Bluetooth connection that’s why it works in the basic scope) and Magic Mouse. Without any problem :) Good luck!

Here’s a more detailed side by side comparison between Luna Display and Sidecar 👉 shop.astropad.com/pages/luna-vs-apple-sidecar
Luna Display makes from your iPad a classic laptop. I sincerely recommend. Zero problems with a swollen battery etc.

@@LamarMK does the iPad’s cameras and microphone work for input, and does it output sound from the mac mini?
@@VKTR_Tech No, the iPad just acts as a display with gesture support. 👍💪
What the actual picture quality like ? ,I’ve just tried Duet and wasn’t impressed with it .
To me it looked pretty good. Then again we might see things differently. 👍💪
I’m just waiting for the wwdc when apple is going to announce a new OS that combine iPadOS and MacOS. It could be something like MacPad OS
😁😁😁 Quite interesting.
I connected my ipad with mac pro and it immediately accepted it as a sec screen! How different it could be. We might not need any device just connect ipad with cable and u r done and later it connects without cable!
Can you do that on macOS Big Sur?
Hi, if M1 Mac mini connect to 2009 iMac, using photoshop will be faster?
I use photoshop for drawing, old iMac runs very slow. Thanks.
Yes, the iMac will only be used as a Display. If you have photoshop on the M1 Mac Mini it will run faster. Here’s a video how to use the iMac as a monitor. ruclips.net/video/eFi_7OVy2BQ/видео.html 👍💪
Nice video Lamar - wish I had the iPad Pro now 😞
Thank you! 👍💪 The iPad Pro is great, mine is the 2018 model and it’s still super powerful. You can use this setup with almost any other iPad though not just the Pro.
this is what i need for my ipad pro
Awesome! Glad to help out. Stay tuned for more. 👍💪
OK. So I can now use my iPad Pro as display for my M1 Mac mini. What about audio?
Audio comes from the M1 Mac Mini’s speakers or any external speakers you have connected to it. 👍💪
You did not mention if Mac Mini has to be always ON for the headless mode say I want to use this at an airport with Mac mini back at home?
The M1 Mac Mini has to be with you, connected to the same WiFi network or connected by USB. If you want to remote access your M1 Mac Mini at home, use services like TeamViewer, it’s just a bit more laggy. 👍💪
how to scroll using magic keyboard?
Do you have to be on the same wifi?
Yes.
What internet you are using as you travel? The IPad data like Verizon/T-Mobile etc or the WiFi from the Mi Mini?
WiFi. My iPad and M1 Mac Mini are both connected to the same WiFi network, they have to be connected to the same network for it to work. 👍💪
Very cool
Yup! Stay tuned for more. 👍💪
Four months later and it is $129! crazy
Ya haha. The video went viral and it seems the price went with it too lol. 😂😂😂
My (continuing) problem is I only have one each Bluetooth Magic Keyboard and Mouse. I can’t get the new Mac Mini to even recognize it doesn’t have either the keyboard or mouse. It times out at 20 seconds and shuts off.
Try to unpair it from the one it’s connected to and then connect it to the Mac Mini.
Please share link of background wallpaper 😅

What’s the difference to „side car“ ? Except the price.
Here’s a full breakdown: astropad.com/luna-vs-apple-sidecar/
I have this to use my MacBook to make my 2008 IMac my main display
Nice! 👍💪
How is that different from Sidecar?
It has lower latency, you can use it from longer distances, and you’re able to use the iPad as the main monitor which is something sidecar can’t do. 👍💪
Can I use my old macbook pro 2011 as a diplay for new mac mini m1
Yes, here's more details on it. shop.astropad.com/pages/mac-to-mac-mode

Does this Work with Mac mini pro m2 to iMac 27 5k Retina 2017 as a monitor ?
Yes, it should work the same. 👍
Can I connect to my mac mini from across town?
No, it’s not for remote accessing your Mac. You can do that with services like TeamViewer, there might just be more lag. 👍💪
@@LamarMK thanks can you do a video on that?

Great one. Please add more apple ecosystem ideas like this. 👍
Thanks! Sure thing, here's my latest video with how I use it on my iMac. ruclips.net/video/eFi_7OVy2BQ/видео.html 👍💪
hello, thank you for the nice video.
For a side by side comparison here’s a more detailed breakdown on their website: shop.astropad.com/pages/luna-vs-apple-sidecar
does ipad cam work like web cam?
No.
This is great! This channel keeps me spending money😂😂😂
It really is a very handy device to have among your other accessories. Hahaha lol, we just like Cool Tech that’s all. 😂🤣😂🤣
Hello 🙂 It's good. But is it more simple & economic a 11" LCD monitor connected directly to Mac Mini?
Hey there 👋! If you have a smaller portable monitor it has to be physically connected to the M1 Mac Mini at all times. With the Luna Display you're able to access the M1 Mac Mini wirelessly. 👍💪
Can you use this with the iPad Pro with cellular signal for example if it is powered thru att?
No, if you're doing it wirelessly it needs to be on the same WiFi network. If you don't have WiFi, you can connect it with a USB-C cable to the M1 Mac Mini. 👍💪
Now what happens when an external wifi is your internet source, either on the mac mini or iPad?
Just connect them both to the same network.
Does it have the ability to work with more than one display wirelessly?
Only one display. 👍💪
5:20 you say you don’t need internet but you need wifi?? What’s the difference?
There’s still hope. You can use a Display Port to HDMI Cable and connect the HDMI to the M1 Mac Mini and the Display Port into your monitor. 👍💪
Hi! What are those speakers you have on your desk?
Hi 👋! Those are the Logitech MX Sound, I have a link to them in the description. 👍💪
I know you provide link to amazon on lg display but which one is this on video???? thnx
It's the 29" LG WN600 UltraWide model. Here's my review on it ruclips.net/video/7SRJow13vsg/видео.html 👍💪
Can you use this on an M1 Mac Mini to have an iMac as a third display if you're already using two monitors?
I haven’t tried that. The Luna display needs to be plugged directly into the Mac Mini.

I don’t quite understand is Mac mini basically a macs functions that can plug in to iPad to make iPad work like a Mac? Can it be used via an iPad for coding and web design?
You’re just basically using your iPad as a monitor for your Mac with touch controls like a tablet. 👍💪

So many options lol. 😁

macOS and iPad OS all ready dose this, one can all ready use an iPad as a second monitor or main and use the Apple Pencil
But yeah, it’s fully functional with the iPad Keyboard case except for trackpad gesture support, pretty sure Apple can allow that in a software update, but people would start using the iPad instead of buying New MacBooks.
At least with this setup macOS has touch and gesture support on screen, just not on the trackpad. 👍💪
@@LamarMK Ugh, you’re right. I have to remember to refer to it as the iPad Magic Keyboard 🤦🏻♀️. Idk what they’d even name it!
@@rnerissa3843 Haha lol. 😁 Knowing Apple it would probably be something weird. 🤷♂️
