A masterclass in the use of the english language for such an event. Avoiding false modesty as well as arrogance, he manages to make everyone feel good, and subtly declares his respect for those who equally contributed to the success of the film whilst gently taking the mickey out of them. Keeps it short and not a boring moment in sight. It may all come too easily for him (A cross he has not always borne well), but it is a joyous talent for a spectator to enjoy.
The memory of this acceptance speech has stuck with me over the years since I first saw it broadcast. Never has the laborious chore of thanking all the folks the public don't care to know been more pleasurable.
Seen almost all of his movies.Although most of them are crap, I can only think of Woody Allen when it comes to such quality wit and comic timing. A wonderful ambassador of British humour, Hugh Grant.
I LOVE The Adventures of Priscilla,Queen of the Desert. I also love how obviously uncomfortable Johnny Depp is here. Hugh Grant is so charming. He's one of those actors that doesn't take himself so seriously (Clooney's infamous Oscar speech comes to mind) and is just...awesome.
Script writers takes months to come out with scripts and this Hugh Grant can do that impromtu ! You have got to be very intelligent to do so, believe me.
I mean... he's an Oxford graduate on scholarship and graduated with honors so yeah, extremely intelligent. He used to write for radio and ads. Was part of a comedy group called The Jockeys of Norfolk.
Why do you think it is impromtu? Think again, do you suppose he might have prepared some of the jokes, or thought about what he was going to say should he win it? Do you think he might have considered the structure? Do you think he might have gone through it once in his head? Or do you think he just made it all up then, and hadn't atleast considered the tone he would take, having known he was nominated for a while before this night?
I didn't know that Hugh was down right funny. I fell in love with him after seeing his most recent project with Nicole Kidman. They both did an AMAZING job. Since seeing him in the HBO project I have seen past and present interviews, and I didn't know that he was so darn funny 😂😂.
No offense to Hugh Grant but Jim Carrey easily deserved this award. Nobody could’ve pulled off the mask character like Jim. I mean the amount of energy that was in that role from the impressions, the exaggerated body movements, the singing, the dancing and playing two characters basically I’m really starting to think the performance is underrated. It was a true demonstration of an incredible talent. Clear case of being snubbed.
@09demonicsslayer No, I am NOT on drugs, I never was. I really thought Junior was the BEST movie I ever saw! It was really cute, funny, and there's is real meaning into it. Only an intelligent person like myself see the charm and warmth of this movie, and how a baby can change Dr. Alex Hesse (Schwarzenegger's charater) from an unemotional fertility researchist, who never truly loved anything into a man who will give up anything, and I mean ANYTHING to hold a baby that he created himself near to
@09demonicslayer No, I am NOT on drugs and I NEVER want to! I truly believe that Junior was the GREATEST movie I have ever saw! My heart beats for Dr. Alexander Hesse (Schwarzenegger's Character) a lonely, emotionless fertility researchist who only sees pregnancy as an experience that changes you physically and not emotionally (as most men do). But when he does get impregnated and he sees there's a bond that is built between him and his baby, he will give up everything and I mean EVERYTHING, ev
Iove how nervous yet confident he looks here!
That's because he's a great actor
It's a performance - playing the role of the bumbling English toff. Americans lapped it up.

The guy is an underrated comedian. He is naturally funny.
He used to write for comedy shows on radio when he first graduated from Oxford.
@@PassionPno He was part of a touring comedy show called The Jockeys of Norfolk and they wrote all their material.
I still come back to this when I need a laugh. And I have to say it: this is the best acceptance speech ever given by anyone, anywhere for anything!
The memory of this acceptance speech has stuck with me over the years since I first saw it broadcast. Never has the laborious chore of thanking all the folks the public don't care to know been more pleasurable.
Anyone else here because they showed this in the Rewrite??!
Yes, me.
Gia A Me, too. Too bad he blew it with Elizabeth Hurley. They were an adorable couple.
Yup!
No... Yes... Maybe >_>
Yaas, ahahaha from Spain right now.
Looking over a lot of these Globe speeches, he's one of the few who's actually aged well.
So funny, so well spoken, so British & that's Hugh Grant every time he speaks in words!!!
Such charm, such wit!!!!!
He deserved it.
He's funny even when receiving an award for being funny!
He's amazing :') love you Hugh x
i love this this is why i love Hugh Grant
Liz Hurley's reaction at the end ❤
If he had a baby with Liz Hurley, that child would be gorgeous....
Well, he had babies with many other people, so you know...
oh you never never know
This is when we realised that the Hugh Grant characters in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill are based on Hugh Grant.
Seen almost all of his movies.Although most of them are crap, I can only think of Woody Allen when it comes to such quality wit and comic timing. A wonderful ambassador of British humour, Hugh Grant.
Patrick Swayze, I miss you.

@@butmay1893 yes, you have a point agreed.
Hugh Grant being Hugh Grant 😜
How to get a movie career in 3 minutes.
man reused this clip for the Rewrite movie lol
Valeria Golino sweet
Comedian!
Jim should have won I never seen the rest of the other nominee's movies the mask was the most relevant to me during that time in '95.
You can't say it should have been Carey if haven't seen the rest.
It's strange the judges didn't consider what was most relevant to Aaron Switzer in 1995.
johnny depp should've because he was outstanding in Ed wood and he is the real best actor in a comedy that year
I didn't know that Hugh was down right funny. I fell in love with him after seeing his most recent project with Nicole Kidman. They both did an AMAZING job. Since seeing him in the HBO project I have seen past and present interviews, and I didn't know that he was so darn funny 😂😂.
Undoing 👍🏽
@winstonlin143 Because he's eloquent and witty...unlike the yanks when they accept awards
What is Valeria Golino's accent?
they over laughed on all the jokes.
sick and tired of the commercials on youtube !
Personally, I wish Arnold won. Junior was a damn good movie and nobody ever appreciates it! :(
Jim Carrey deserved it
Mr Terence Stamp should have deserved the award !!!
@BigDeanoSyd How so?
Jim Carrey deserved that award, his performance was awesome.

When he was charming...
He still is

Wait, I don't understand why this speech is so funny.
Johnny Depp should've won this AND the Oscar.. Forrest Gump is overrated..
I realize that I'm probably in the minority, but I personally don't find his acceptance speech funny, really.
