To me, one of the evidences that attest to the reality of Jesus, is that time is measured as time before and after His arrival. I can't imagine any fairytale having such a profound effect on mankind that any portion of its content would have the same global effect.

Like it. My experience is that "A mind convinced against the will is of the same opinion still." Logic entering a corrupt mind does not seem to follow the path to the heart. Rather, it stays in the mind, is corrupted by the evil one, and touches, negatively, upon the will or emotion. That said, however, the Holy Spirit can work magic to a softened heart.

Pontius Pilate went and checked out Jesus on the streets talking to crowds. Pilate's report to Tiberius emperor exists.
The Jewish Sanhedran compiled records of Jesus and were seeking intelligence on him by sending people to talk to his parents, friends who knew Jesus, a teacher of Jesus and over 500 people saw Jesus before his ascension to Heaven.
The Roman soldiers who guarded his tomb quickly believed he was the son of God.
Jesus's life, works and doings is recorded by followers and those that despised him.

@@ColdCaseChristianity I have seen a few of your videos, especially the one's on building a case to answer atheist's most common objections to the truth of Jesus. I have tried proclaiming the gospel on Linkedin, because honestly I see so much deception from influential people pushing their views and working professionals running after these half truths. They don't realize that all the principles they need is in the bible, and all the solutions to getting rid of corruption in the workplace, is in the bible. I see many posts in support of the LGBT community and how these influential leaders claiming that an innovative and progressive society is one where there is no opposition to the LGBT worldview, and that any opposing worldview is discrimination. When I state my views, I find that there is a spirit of opposition from the working professional community, from people who believe God and Jesus have no place in the workplace, and that moral principles should be upheld independent of God (even though He is the standard of morality). People with impressive job titles, issuing me warnings that I should keep my views to myself, or 'reminding' me that Linkedin isn't a place for sharing religious views. The pro-LGBT Linkedin members become quite toxic, calling Christians hypocrites, even for the slightest suggestion of the Christian worldview.
I have spent the last couple of days defending and replying to these objections but they just keep on coming, and its honestly overwhelming. I hold a junior position in my company and I am defending the gospel against professionals of high ranking, using common counter arguments that Christian Apologists use. I know that any point I could risk losing my job if my company execs catch wind of what I am doing. But I just cannot standby. I know there are other Christians on Linkedin that need to see a fellow Christian acting fearlessly for Jesus, because we are called to be the salt of the earth, the beacon on the hill for all to see.

Most serious scholars do not accept the discrption of Jesus as found in the writings of Flavius Josephus. This similar to the last chapter of John and the last 14 verses of Mark...later additions made to prove points of faith. Jesus, however, was a real, living person. It is divinity that has always been in question.

I believed the Bible as a child. Believing is easier as a child before the muck of maturity engulfs an individual. When the dross of growing up and chaff of education came into my life, I clung to the childlike beliefs and, through commitment and re-commitment, found that there is experiential reality in Jesus Christ... and I attribute that to the "guarantee" and assurances of a living God in the Person of the Holy Spirit. Did you know that Jesus said He had to return to heaven after His resurrection? He said He would send the Holy Spirit to live inside of the disciples. Later, another author said the Holy Spirit is God. Tricky understanding, but it sure is real (don't use your mind, though, to try to understand this... it's too "messed up" to fathom this... use your heart).

    • @plum1000
      @plum1000 4 года назад +1

The Holy Spirit is so remarkable. He knows what to say and when and how to say it. Usually, what the Holy Spirit says, though it's always according to Scripture, is intended for you alone and is not in a form that can be shared. That's almost another way of saying that the message is deeper than the intellect... it's at a heart level and very private. This morning, I was reading Oswald Chambers' quote from My Utmost For His Highest, and the passage was from John 7:17 where it states "If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine..." to which O.C. comments, "The golden rule to follow to obtain spiritual understanding is not one of intellectual pursuit, but one of obedience. If a person desires knowledge and insight into the teachings of Jesus Christ, he can only obtain it through obedience. The Spirit of God uncovers...."
I do not mean to cut O.C.'s insight short, but I wanted to add my devotional content. There are many phrases that we all know that constitute a "library" of "golden rule's": e.g. "An apple a day..."; "do unto others as you would..."; "an apple a day..."; "a penny saved is..."; ad infinitum. In this O.C. gem, he suggests that spiritual understanding and knowledge, though it may come in through the eye and ear gates of an individual, is to be mixed with something more (i.e. the Holy Spirit) before knowledge is realized. To me it ultimately boils down to a mystery of the "free will" that God has built into each of us and it is mixed with that other mystery called "God's grace".
I am not a scholar by any means. I do believe, as others, that the inspired word is without error. R.C. Sproul in his commentary on the Westminster Confession of Faith states that that statement is only true of the original languages in which the Scriptures were written... a bit of trouble for me since I don't read Hebrew or Greek. But, more of late than my earlier years, I am reading from a minimum of 9 translations whenever I have "challenges". I chuckle at the thought that, because I use different translations, assuming each has a team of 30 or more Hebrew and Greek scholars, I get the benefit of hundreds of learned intellectuals, poets, linquists, and artists interpreting what God is saying. Sometimes it "works" and sometimes is doesn't help. Usually, however, within days of my first question, the Lord is gracious, and His Holy Spirit which resides within my spirit, is able to get a message through to my mind. It just pops in... many times through another Scripture passage while I do my daily quiet time, prayer, and journaling. It's truly amazing.
When I read the comments from others, or hear them in person, I find that the comments come from a "natural" mind - missing the content of the super-natural. I think our current society is leaning toward the natural more and more and losing the touch of the possibilities beyond the natural. Ooops! I've gone way too long in this reply and I offer my apologies.

When approached with logic, reason, intellectual honesty; by process of elimination there is no other way to explain the historical Jesus than what we have in the N.T. writings - especially the 4 canonical gospels as eyewitness accounts. As Paul said in Acts 26:26, "these things were not done in a corner". The impact went way beyond 1st cent Judea / the Galil and affected the Roman empire such that we have these non Christian, pagan / Roman references to Jesus.

      Quoting Non-Biblical sources ONLY.
The historic Jesus represented or referred from *anti-Christian historic sources* and cults bent on the destruction of the Biblical events read as follows:
From extra-biblical sources alone, Jesus had a brother called James (Josephus), and was located in Palestine (Tacitus, Lucian, Acts of Pilate). Jesus was known to be a wise, virtuous and ethical man (Josephus, Mara Serapion) who was reported to have both performed miracles (Acts of Pilate) and made prophecies that were fulfilled (Phlegon, cf. Josephus). A result of his ministry was that he had many disciples, from both the Jews and the Gentiles (Josephus, Talmud). At the beginning of his ministry he encountered a man called John the Baptist of whom baptized him (Josephus).
Jesus was worshiped as a deity (Pliny, Lucian), and some believed he was the Messiah (Josephus) and called him “king” (Mara Serapion). Some people saw Jesus as a philosopher with unique teachings (Lucian, Mara Serapion, Gospel of Thomas). The Jewish leaders judged Jesus as guilty of apostasy (Talmud, cf. Apocryphon of John), and no-one came forward to support Jesus in his trial (Talmud).
He died at the hands of Pontius Pilate (Tacitus) who crucified him (Josephus, Talmud, Lucian, Gospel of Truth, Acts of Pilate). The event occurred on Passover Eve (Talmud), he was nailed to a cross (Phlegon, Gospel of Truth, Acts of Pilate, cf. Tacitus), and after his death the executioners gambled over his clothing (Acts of Pilate). There was a three-hour darkness at the moment of the crucifixion (Thallus, Phlegon), and an earthquake (Phlegon), all of which corroborates New Testament events.
Jesus’ teachings spread after his death (Tacitus, cf. Suetonius, Pliny), the Christian religion was named after Jesus (Tacitus), Christians formed a section of society (Pliny), and exercised faith in Jesus’ teachings (Lucian). Christians also believed in their own eternal immortality and scorned death (Lucian), and that Jesus’ death procured their salvation (Gospel of Truth).
The disciples never abandoned Jesus’ teachings even in persecution (Josephus), and many Christians were exiled from Rome for their beliefs in him (Suetonius). Many were also still present in Rome by the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD (Tacitus, Suetonius). They were also described as law breakers for meeting in secret, and were blamed for drinking blood, and burning their children (Pliny, cf. Trajan, Hadrian).
According to Habermas a few of the forged Gnostic sources are also corroborative of the New Testament literature. They relate that on one occasion that Jesus asked his disciples who they thought he was (Gospel of Thomas), that Jesus was flesh and blood (Gospel of Truth, Treatise on Resurrection), and that he had the title “Son of Man” (Gospel of Thomas). Jesus was also said to be the “Son of God” (Treatise on Resurrection, Gospel of Truth, Gospel of Thomas).
And there is a forensics trail verified in multiple peer reviewed scientific journals, as well as I can reference over 150 published peer reviewed articles.
The external case is pretty strong.

I've read Flavius Josephus, and I disagree with the secular naysayers who purport to be scholars, regarding the passages on Christ. They claim Josephus wouldn't have called Jesus the Messiah, because Josephus was a Jew, but this argument fails utterly because Jesus was a Jew. Most of the disciples were Jews. Josephus distinguished Jesus from about 40 other guys named Jesus in his account, and many other false messiahs who claimed to be the Christ by stating frankly that Jesus of Nazareth was THE Christ, which actually would make perfect sense, because Christianity was growing at the time, and all the Christians were calling Jesus, Jesus the Christ, Jesus Christ, or Christ Jesus. Josephus would have found it necessary to use this name in order to separate Jesus Christ from the Jesus who was the high priest at the Temple, who was killed by the Seditionists. Or the guy who claimed to be the Messiah who led his followers out of the city, and they were all tracked down and killed. There's no conspicuous break in the flow of the narrative, and considering the amount of detail given for most other figures in Josephus' writing, it's strange there isn't more about Jesus Christ than there is, but that lends credence to what IS written. Josephus probably didn't have copies of the Gospels, and he wouldn't have wanted to say too much more about it, because Jesus Christ was a controversial figure, and His followers faced persecution, so he wrote what he could get away with writing.

Surprised that no one commented since my comment 3 weeks ago. I just wanted to add that I’ve been reading a book that I uncovered in my garage while home-bound during the current pandemic. The book is by W. Graham Scroggie and is entitled, “Is the Bible the Word of God?” Goodness... what a fact-filled book that approaches the Bible with three wondering: “It seems to be; it claims to be; and, it proves to be.” The information has given me the assurance that the Bible is the actual word of God. In all fairness to a skeptic, however, I’m not one that needs proof... the Holy Spirit has been my Companion since I was a small child and I’ve had great times with Him over these scores of years. As hinted in my last comment, for me the concept of “believing and receiving” includes a long list of “things” that God does inside of a person. That long list of “things” in Ephesians 2 takes a lifetime to to realize as the process of “sanctification” takes place in one’s life. I received the Lord Jesus as a kid... and have realized, over-time, that coming to Christ as a child is of great advantage... how blessed is the child that receives in the innocence that only a child possesses!

A friend gave me a BOOK OF MORMON. I’ve been reading it. It’s really amazing. ANOTHER TESTAMENT of prophets writings of Christ’s dealings in the Americas. I told my pastor about it and how awesome it is. Unfortunately he wasn’t happy. I’m new to Christianity. I don’t know what the big deal is. Everything I’ve read so far seems clearly Christ focused. I am interested in anything that was written about Christ. I’m going to keep reading it. I don’t see why everyone is so scared of anything that doesn’t come from the Bible.

I really like how you form the case by citing the individual sources then putting together the body of work at the end. The way it is presented also makes it difficult to refute as using Abraham Lincoln as another historical figure. I also think about Lincoln and wonder what amount of historical accounts he would have if the events during his presidency and the end of his presidency were more benign. Much of the reason Lincoln is so well documented is that his life, presidency and nature of death were remarkable. What makes the Jesus accounts so remarkable is, while he was a king he was not an emperor over an empire but a king over a smaller community.
Somehow the Christian belief and following grew out of a small geographical area and a tiny population.
Also interesting is that people identify the Bible as one source. But the old and new testaments are actually multiple sources and accounts spanning over a time and a people. There is also the Christianity accounts that have occurred in time since. The linage of Popes and the documented history of Christianity up to today’s date.

1-23 John replied in the words of Isaiah/Yesha'yahu the prophet: “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’” --- What is born from the flesh is flesh, and what is born from the Spirit is spirit. Stop being amazed at my telling you that you must be born again from above! 3 John --- John 1 32 Then Yochanan gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit coming down from heaven like a dove, and remaining on him. I myself did not know who he was, but the one who sent me to immerse in water said to me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining, this is the one who immerses in the Ruach HaKodesh.’ And I have seen and borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

People often ask for extra-biblical information about whether Jesus existed because using only the Bible to confirm itself is a type of "circular reasoning" and its authors are considered an "interested party" to further Christianity's own advancement. Outside sources bring supporting evidences that show that Jesus of Nazareth was in fact a real person. Dealing with whether authors of books within the Bible are credible, or considering whether the testimony recorded in epistles by his inner circle are credible, is an associated, but distinctly different matter that should be addressed after the logical acceptance of the reality of Jesus' existence is established within the mind of an honest person.

But the Bible isn't a book. It is an anthology of writings. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are written by different authors and only later were put into this anthology we call the Bible.
Dismissing It is the equivalent of dismissing teachings about Socrates by Plato, Aristotle and Xenophon because someone later compiled their writings about Socrates into a single volume.

The law of sin and death! I pray that God will even give them the faith to respond to God drawing them personally in such love, but it’s really heartbreaking when those you love don’t even want to try to learn, seek, because they already have made up their mind, and reject anything to do with giving themselves an open heart and mind, to just look into what the questions they might, to look for answers. Instead they just close off and don’t want to. Forgive me, seeing as you have already covered this in this video. However, I am wondering where these non-Christian sources got their information. I am a Christian, but am looking to be a better defender of the faith, which is why I am asking these questions. Hiw do we know that these non-Christian sources got their info about Jesus from sources who got from other sources that just made up this guy Jesus, and everything he did?
In top of that, seeing as most scholars do accept the fact that Paul wrote seven of the 13 epistles that bare his name, but the others are in question, how do we know he wrote any of them? Back to Jesus being made up, I know that the Christians got heavily persecuted for their beliefs, but Paul did say that many preach Christ out of personal gain right? And we know that Jesus is a name that can get you famous these days. Just look at the Lakeland revival that rose and fell not too long ago. Lastly, I know Josephus mentions Jesus, but he seems to be speaking rather favorably of Him, and the theory is, this is because a Christian inserted a mention of Jesus in Josephus's work to promote Christianity. How do we defend that?
Thank you for answering my question when you can.

Not sure if you’re into answering the comments, but I had a challenging question over the historicity of Jesus. A person I was arguing with online calls Christianity a cult, according to the Roman sources you provided. That said they also challenged me that we have no evidential proof, that the Jesus in the Bible is the same Jesus in the pagan accounts, so there’s no way to know if they are the same Christ figure. This individual claimed that it could’ve been anyone on that cross, what proof do we have other than the gospels that was indeed the same man?
I just wanted your thoughts on how you’d respond to this because I feel like they were splitting hairs at this point. Is there any way we can affirm Jesus of Nazareth being the man crucified by Pontius Pilate via name. Do they actually say Jesus ir just “the Christ?”

In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that He was speaking to them about John the Baptist. Matthew 17 11-13 ... I think Matthew muddles the prophets a bit... Elijah and Isaiah and also the story of Jonah or rather the sign of... Jonah is the Dove and the sign of the dove is given by God when John baptises the world with Jesus. (Isaiah/Yesha'yahu - the roots יָשַׁע (yasha') meaning "to save" and יָה (yah) referring to the Hebrew God. God saves - Yeshua), the Son of God, the Spirit of Truth, the Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

It would come across as the ramblings of a delusional narcissist and therefore wouldn't have held up for 2000 years. By allowing ordinary humans to write the Bible instead of doing so Himself, Jesus was showing His humility and trusting His followers to simply write what they saw. One can argue that this approach might have resulted in a degree of human bias being infused into the Bible but even if that's the case, every single one of those writers ultimately reached the same conclusion about the Resurrection. That's the lynchpin that holds Christianity together so it's better to have multiple sources confirming the most important event in human history than just one source.

He asked fir non-biblical (other historical sources other than scripture) which indicate that Jesus and scripture are genuine. I’ve done my best to convince him but was nearing the end of my rope running very short on persuasion. So I prayed for help. And behold this video hit my RUclips feed not long after. Coincidence? I don’t think so. I’ve been frustrated by these questions because my biblical experience is light. Several times I’ve felt like walking away because I’ve been afraid that I might be failing this man by being unable to give him all he’s asked for. And also for failing the Lord who clearly brought us together so I might serve Him. I’ve been planting seeds, but I haven’t felt like I’ve been making the kind of headway God expects. There is that evidence indeed : the almighty God can NOT be here now for a logical reason. He would be expected at the same time to A) know the future AND B) be able to make decisions. But this is impossible. For this reason we need a God who does NOT know the future. Indeed only Jesus claims to be that God, He is thus that non-omnipotent God.

God has and had the ability to produce Himself in the human form, flesh. Jesus was His only begotten Son. I find it interesting, and difficult to understand how some can believe in an unlikely "big bang" whence life began billions of years ago and yet NOT believe in something greater than anything we can understand. When they don't understand the "Big Bang" theory. I think my brother left this life at least partially at peace with his belief in God and in Jesus Christ. I believe I will se my brother again.

That's quite a search you done on all the outside sources of finding out about jesus's ministry. You said that certain ones believed the apostles worshiped Jesus as God, which they did because Jesus was God as a man according to the scriptures of the Old testament. That's why Peter preached what he preached in Acts 2:38 about repentance baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and infilling of the Holy Ghost, knowing that's what Jesus told him to do in Matthew 28: 19, Mark 16:16, and Luke 24:47. So God being omnipresent, was still on the throne, and yet was in Jesus Christ, reconciling the world back into himself, according to the scriptures.

I tried giving two atheists evidence for Jesus like Josephus and Tacitus and saying there’s more records of Him than Julius Caesar, but they rejected all of it as not being evidence. I even directed them to J. Wallace but one atheist had the arrogance to say that he debunked Wallace with facts and logic.

Its fine, our Lord raised lazarus from the dead and some still didnt believe . Some ppl dont want God to exist and even if he appeared before him they will still deny him, sadly.

I think the best evidence about both the existence of Christ and its miracles is in fact the most hostile testament ever written about him,
When someone is saying, "Yes he did miracles, but it wasn't with the power of God"
And then goes on and on rambling about why they hated him
    This pretty much 100% proves:
    a) he was a real person
    b) he did miracles
    c) Bible is true
It's the equivalent of a team loosing a game,
The winning team saying they played better
The loosers saying that the others cheated
You can deduct the game happened.
1000000 years from now, it doesn't matter
And we have 2 such books
    Talmud & Quran

“Praised be Adonai, the God of Isra’el, because he has visited and made a ransom to liberate his people by raising up for us a mighty Deliverer who is a descendant of his servant David. It is just as he has spoken through the mouth of the prophets from the very beginning - that we should be delivered from our enemies and from the power of all who hate us. “This has happened so that he might show the mercy promised to our fathers - that he would remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore before Avraham avinu to grant us that we, freed from our enemies, would serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. You, child, will be called a prophet of Ha‘Elyon; you will go before the Lord to prepare his way by spreading the knowledge among his people that deliverance comes by having sins forgiven through our God’s most tender mercy, which causes the Sunrise to visit us from Heaven, to shine on those in darkness, living in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the paths of peace.” His father Z’kharyah was filled with the Ruach HaKodesh and spoke this prophecy.

I guess all we can do is pray for the obstinate skeptics. Anything short of them being able to get in a time machine, going back and witnessing Jesus with their eyes, nothing will be good enough for them. Pray that God will soften their hearts.

Is there proof that the apostles wrote the gospel? Or that the apostles existed? Other then the Bible? Considering the Christian Holidays are so in sync with the pagan holidays. People say that Rome created Christianity in an effort to control the dominant religion. Asking for a friend...

Polycarp of Smyrna was taught by the Apostle John.
Does it make sense that if Rome created Christianity, they would create a religion that spoke against the Roman Empire?
Does it make sense that they would create the story of Paul, who being a Roman citizen, preached that his true citizenship is in heaven, placing his Roman citizenship as inferior?
Does it make sense Rome would create a religion where Rome killed not only the founder (Jesus), but some of the greatest students of the founder (Paul, Peter)?

People dont take it seriously for the same reason you dont take expect a friend of someone to give an unbiased viewpoint.

I actually expect enemies to give biased viewpoints since they are the ones who have an "axe to grind". People who know you generally don't over-exaggerate how good you are. They tell all of your business.

Jesus had two disciples by the name of Judas. We know very little about one of them - Judas, the son of James who was a son of Zebedee. chosen to replace Iscariot. Could it be he who wrote about Jesus?

Judas Iscariot was replaced by Matthias according to the New Testament.

I'm pretty sure Judas was replaced by Saul of Tarsus...not tryna be all technical, just saying. Seems that the eleven jumped the gun.
