- Former Army Capt. William Swenson received the Medal of Honor on Tuesday from President Obama at the White House for his extraordinary courage during a firefight with the Taliban in Afghanistan. David Martin speaks with Swenson about the harrowing battle.
This guy looks like the non evil version of Makarov
The hero version of makarov
@@hyrofoo yeah
@@hyrofoo he just kissed a guy and got a medal of honour tf?
@@mangan65 Did you not watch the video? He took fire fron Taliban all around him about 30 yards away and still going to locate and bring dead marines off the battle field.
@@hyrofoo and?
for the people that are saying “why did he get the medal” the man who got the medal was pulling wounded in the middle of a battlefield while being shot at, it may seem like a simple thing to drag a wounded but when you think about it he could’ve just hopped on that helicopter and would’ve been save but he put his life at risk to help the people who didn’t have the same chances or survival as he did. so yeah this dude be vibing 🥴🥴
yeah but i dont think he was the only one who did what u said. Dont do others deserve the medal to?
There was another that received the medal of honor Dakota Myers
Gabriel Tejada, Thanks, this was actually the on thing I was wondering about/looking for.
@kemronirons it says in the video they have helmet cams.
OOPS UhOh I think he didn’t deserve the medal i mean i saw the other marine taking a Grenade to save his buddy. while he’s just dragging his wounded mates to a helicopter.
All those Keyboard warriors complaining that a literall warrior hasn't deserved a medal of honor
The news story didn't give the whole story. It way more heroic and badass than just getting your NCO into a helicopter. He drove back into the ambush with others in order to rescue wounded afghans and recover the body of the marines, the latter requiring him to exit the vehicles under heavy fire.
Nahh if he even died he died for nothing..smh
@@F-I-N-E-R but you are a low life yourself?
ASnakeWith AToothache kinda gay
ASnakeWith AToothache forget to remove the *not* there buddy. don’t worry, did it for ya:)
In case anyone is unclear about the kind of courage William Swenson
& Dakota Meyer showed that day. They rode together in an unarmored
truck back into the chaotic and extremely risky ambush multiple times to
recover dead and wounded Marines and Afghans. In order to recover their
men, they also had to exit the truck under heavy fire. Everyone in the
valley was pinned down taking heavy fire and these two (among other
heroes) rolled in to help, knowing they’d probably be killed.
All these people are making comments without knowing the story. Hopefully they see this comment.
You explained it better than the narrator.
For the people asking why he received the Medal of Honor:
“For risking his life, under enemy fire, to render medical aid to a fellow wounded soldier, and rescue others and recover fallen comrades, during the Battle of Ganjgal.”
So don’t say he didn’t deserve it
Reminds me of Private Desmond Doss
Great job Capt.

now promoted to lieutenant colonel
Woah
@Vent Shark He was promoted after only 14 years of commissioned service (2002-2011 and 2014-2019). 2 or 3 years below the DOPMA primary zone. Only the best of the best get such early promotion.
Hello there
@@AV_204 LMAO, well well well. Isn’t this a interesting encounter
Aw he gave him a kiss on the head. That’s like the sweetest, most comforting gesture in a moment like that.
What really just moves me is that in the valley of death - surrounded by heavy fire, he kisses his wounded brother in Arms - that unconditional, sacrificial love that is only forged in the face of death among our soldiers and veterans. Especially, not knowing he wouldn't see him again. This should open the eyes of many who take our soldiers and veterans for granted. Our soldiers are indeed one of the truest representations of Christ-likeness to us today.
And that's what courage, bravery, and valor looks like. Thank you, Captain!
Currently a lieutenant colonel
Boy do i 1000% agree with Swenson's sworn statement
Imagine how hard it was to watch your best friend suffer from serious injuries and 4 other people that will literally take bullet for you just gone
I can not speak from personal experience but My Mum was a Military Medic, my Dad and my 4 brothers and I've heard harrowing, nightmare inducing stories that leave you lost for words. I can't forget what I heard never mind live with the actual first hand, real time act. I have such massive respect for ANY military member, First responder and even First aiders. This guy utterly deserves this medal and the title of Hero. I personally thank you. God Bless you love.
He earned it because he didn't leave any of his brothers on the battlefield wether dead or alive.
just watched that a guy who"took" a grenade covering it to save lives gets this medal,,this guy,,,errm

These things happen, yet we have no one taking good care of our veterans after they get out.
I stand and salute you......well done.......enjoy a long and happy life...
Wow...hes so handsome, thank you for service!
Nagy Erno it’s not like America is the only country to start wars.
@Nagy Erno for risking his life for others.
@Nagy Erno I may not agree with America sometimes but that is admirable.

Can someone explain to me why he received the medal of honor? He carried the live dude onto a helicopter but so did the other dude helping. And his whole team got the rest of the marines in the trench. I don't know this military stuff works but I feel like he shouldn't of gotten it for that or the other guy should've gotten it to. He seemed to just be doing his job.
yea i was thinking that too
you should research it. Have you found out by any chance?
@@crl122486 Tried looking into it and the video basically explained the articles I read. I guess it's because he was in charge.
Because he is a captain of the platoon. He deserve a Medal of Honor
@doritos91381 none Ah! Cheers.
News presenter: What kind of person would risk their life
Everyone who is in the military: 👁👄👁
We don't know about everything that happened that day. I am sure he deserved his Metal OF Honor. Until you walk among est bullets snapping as they pass by you( This happens because the bullets are traveling faster then the speed of sound) you will never know how hard it is to do. He helped his brother to a helicopter so he might live while bullets passed by his head but he did it anyway. That's a hero
2:47 this guy who is standing on the right... ii think his right shoulder is being consumed by his rank.
GodTheChaoticEvil Narcissist LMAO
It's not his rank
GodTheChaoticEvil Narcissist: change your name now!
@@generalss3461 why?
That's has nothing to do with rank.
Lets be silent for a moment in the memory of the soldiers who passed away in the battle field fighting for us
So that’s where the meme template came from
Really?
He must have swedish ancestors (Swenson)! Respect from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thank you for your service and your. Bravery
this capt is a hero and deserved the medal with evry reason in the military and for the balls of steal
You aaid your words wisely hero!!
people don’t realize this is the warrior that was on the same mission as Dakota, doing the same actions WITH Dakota riding in the truck trying to get to the 4 trapped marines back home...
Exactly but people just don't realize how much courage it takes. 99.9% percent of us couldn't even do what William Swenson and Dakota Myers did that day.
He's indeed and hero but i say the best heros are those who we will never hear of because they will never come back.

"what kind... this kind"
Not a Sergeant, not a Sergeant Major, not a Warrant Officer, not a Lieutenant, but a CAPTAIN. He’s going to be a Lt.Colonel
Major in 2014, Lieutenant Colonel in 2019 and full Colonel perhaps in 2023

Kenneth Westbrook was a member of the Navajo Tribe an his brother was also killed in a battle both from Shiprock, New Mexico
can see pain in his eyes
God bless you all
so he was walking?
Is he bitter?
Are you kidding me? Apparently the investigation also revealed that helicopters with support fire capability were in a 5-10 min range of these guys, and because of incompetence at the command center, they never made it. It’s one thing to be trapped. But to loose hope like that…I couldn’t even imagine. I would be filled with rage directed towards those incompetent officers.
Very brave man. Whoever is whining that he didn't deserve the MoH is ignorant. He made every American proud that day whether you realize it or not.
This man deserved this. I am not saying Dakota Meyer didnt but Dakota told Swensons story as his own
Delusional
One wants to like a CMH winner by definition, but man, he is instantly unlikeable. Great job.
This is where the meme came from
This isn’t even the full story. They fought for hours and didn’t get any support. This guy and more went and saved a bunch of people defying all odds in an unarmored truck with a turreted gun on the back dodging thousands bullets the whole time.
:: you're taking Directfire
he:: We're Taking Directfire..
There are hunans in this world that are heroes.
UTMOST RESPECT!!!!
I read the report of this battle. When they got surrounded The Taliban commanders was taunting them over the ANA radio, saying that they were going to do the same to them as they did to the Russians. When they finally made it out with all the dead and wounded the locals were lined up on the road laughing at them and cheering that they got attacked... Talk about a bad day.
I hope they got some payback.
We STAN this MAN
The captain gave him a kiss before he left, if you watch the raw video. Simon Sinek has a Ted Talk, called why good leaders make you feel safe, very insightful.
Realest statement ever
Ok... Cool... But why is this on my 2020 recommended page?
preparing you for Iran
Yeah, because you cant watch an old video or what? whats the fkin point in what year it is? IN every frickin video there has to be this comment.
damn useless comment ever
God Bless SGT Westbrook SGT Meyer and MAJ Swenson
Sadly SFC Westbrook died of his wounds a month after the battle. SGT Meyer and LTC Swenson do well.
He deserved the medal, but this video didn't do a good job of explaining why.
Why would anyone want to go back and fight or die for a country that won't even allow you to tell the truth without tragic consequences? That's WHY we fight, and yet that freedom is lost in favor of political correctness and all that worthless trash our lying corrupt politicians have taught us to live by. I have so much admiration for this young man and his observations are 100% on target, but if you DARE to say the truth today, we'll end your career or job. I have tears in my eyes from that kiss to that fallen hero and will never forget the gentle kindness of that moment. God bless all our soldiers and support teams. It's the people that didn't get the air or artillery support that should be in trouble.
Ive seen the editted version too much, I can no longer see this the same way
This video found me
How did he get a Medal of Honor he kissed some guy if I went out and kissed some marine I’d probably be called gay
What's the problem of kissing someone in the US.
He pulled back many wounded soldiers while being shot at, risked his life multiple times basically while saving a lot of people
no u many other soldiers do that too and they don’t get rewarded they get nothing they don’t even get good therapy
Hdid Jritij you are a disrespectful, homophobic, child. Also, I had I seizure trying to read your name.
Frostburn good and i don’t agree with gay peoples beliefs but I don’t have a problem with them
No one knows what those who initially survived would have said or what stories could have been told…so much has been lost, from those that really mattered. Silenced. By death
Uss Peralta for life this guy and his story do t Sever this . They are much other guys they do
Of course he going all mad.. think about it 5 of his comrades dying before him. it's surprising at this point for me he didn't not go insane!! I'm not Americans myself but I can understand his anger for
