    Thanks for the child hood memories, we used to cut five. Or six inch stalks of the grain stalks after the harvests and one could have a handful of whistles all made in a half hour or so as we walked home.

    For tonal pleasantries, try using lengths like "6, 4,, 2, 1" or "6, 4, 3, 2, 1"
    6 & 3 are an octave a part, and 4, 2, and 1 are octaves apart....
    I hope I have recalled my physics and music theory. Feel free to correct me. correctly.

    The air flows differently than he draws and explains it but at least the whistle designs match up with other videos I have seen

    The piece of dowel is called a fipple, not a reed
