Thank you! My kids haven’t even heard of a slide whistle. I can’t wait to try it.. btw hope to have 1/2 the tools and just 1/4 the knowledge/experience you have someday..things like that are a lost art. Definitely a 👍🏻and subscription from me!
Sorry for the late reply Paul. For some reason, your comment got filtered into the "spam" section. Either way, I'm glad that you are going to give this a try and I hope that your kids like it. Have fun with it. Thanks for tuning in to the show. Glad to have you as a subscriber and I look forward to your comments on future episodes of the show.
flattening the side of a dowel creates a "reed" like on a flute. Nice job/explanation. Thank you.
Glad that you liked the show Patrick. Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to leave the kind words.
Hi Kenny, thanks for this. Something else to try after the train whistle lol. 😂
Glad that you liked it Dave. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Excellent video! Can't wait to try it out!
I hope you enjoy it Robin. Thanks for tuning in and good luck on your project.
I just found your channel and love this. I see my son having a slide whistle in the near future.
Thanks for the kind words. I hope you son enjoys his whistle. Thanks for tuning in John.
Cool whistle. Love the idea
Glad that you liked it David. Thank you for tuning in.
That was fun to watch! Looks fun to make as well. Better than the store-bought plastic ones.
A heck of a lot of fun to make Michael. I just with that I would have made it longer to get more tones from it. Maybe on the next one. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words on the show.
Thanks Kenny, - entertaining as usual. Stay well.
Glad that you liked it Patrick. Thank you for tuning in and taking the time to leave the kind words.
Hi Kenny, good simple project, I like it. Always appreciate your videos Kenny.
Glad that you liked it Philip. Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
I'll never make one. But I still enjoyed the show. Thanks.
Not every project is applicable to every viewer Doug and I'm just fine with that. I'm glad that you tuned in and enjoyed the show though. Thanks for that. It's very much appreciated.
I had to check my calendar to see what day of the week it was. ;o) No end to what you will attempt. Good job. Bill
Nope. I will pretty much give anything a go Bill. How am I ever supposed to learn anything if I won't give anything a try? Thanks for tuning in sir......it's Friday!!!!
@@acutabove_woodworkings I thought maybe it was Tuesday when I saw the whistle but Tuesday will be part two of the cigar box. Can't wait. Watched part one completely. Bill
I wonder if you could use a length of brass rod, like the one you used to make your centre finder. Drill your 2 or 3 pieces of wood and slide them onto the brass rod, adding glue to just the wood of course. Once set gently tap the brass rod out again. Just a thought. Have a great day.
I'm sure there are many different ways to make this Cliff and I don't see why your way wouldn't work. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your suggestion. It's very much appreciated.
Kenny, cool little project, your son-ln-law came up with a good idea. You know that with a few more holes, a plugged end and a little longer wood you could probably make a neat little piccolo. More musical instruments for you to master.
I've actually thought of that Paul. It's a shame that you and I don't live closer. If we were to put our heads together, we'd have enough show ideas to last the next few decades. LOL. Thanks for tuning in sir.
Looks like something I could actually make!
Of course you can make it Libby and I hope that you give it a try. Good luck on your project and thank you for tuning in.
greta video and project. Have you thought about one of the train whistles. I would love to figure out how to make those.
I have many several train whistles Scott but never one for the show. Maybe I need to do that. I'm sure folks would love making them. Thanks for tuning in and for the show idea.
Just a quick question. Is the flat side of the reed facing the birds mouth opening or the bottom of the whistle ? Looking forward to trying out this project for my grandsons. Love your videos. Thanks for the wholesome content 😀
If I understand your question correctly Bryan, it is facing the bird's mouth opening. You can always test the whistle to make sure that it works prior to gluing anything in place. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words. It's very much appreciated. Good luck on your project.
Actually, I was just thinking about making a slide whistle about the same time your son in law suggested it ...I have a small lathe, maybe I will give it a try too.. thanks Kenny.
Good luck on your project David. It's a lot of fun. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Very very very excellent I like it
Glad that you liked it. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
I know this is old but you could drill you hole one size say 1/16 less than your final size then drill it again the the final size. It would leave a cleaner hole.
As long as you are using twist bits, that would work just fine Steve. With brad point bits....not so much. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for taking the time to chime in with your suggestion. It's appreciated.
I wonder about incorporating a slide or four into your quad-tone train whistle...
There's only one way to find out. Gotta give it a try. Thanks for tuning in and for the suggestion.
The grandkids would love this whereas your kids will question your sanity. Exactly the same affect as those flute like recorders or worst a drum set. I should mention I'm not a fan of "noise". My daughter still gives me "the look" because I disabled the spring noise maker on her big wheel! I do appreciate the video however. LOL
Glad that you liked it Dwight. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave a comment. I truly appreciate it.
Cool! Any suggestion on a finish? I’m not sure about the kids’ lips going on wood with a chemical finish.
Using a finish like varnish is just fine. Once it is dry, it is non toxic. It's pretty hard to ingest a finish once it is dry. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Did you get glue on your lips?🤣
Look like fun, I always wanted to try building a train whistle.
Maybe I will have to do a train whistle for another show Jeff. They are fun to make as well but you have to make sure that your drilling is accurate. Thanks for tuning in sir. And to answer your question......yes. LOL.
Know what I like most of all above other how to videos? When you talk about what your doing. 🙂 When others just play music and say nothing it's a big turn off.
Glad that you liked the show. I hope the you will try and make one of these for yourself. Thanks for tuning in to the channel. It's very much appreciated.
@@acutabove_woodworkings I not made that one yet. I made the 3 tone train whistle. Busy now making end grain cutting boards.
@@walnutcreekwoodworksofjack3520 End grain cutting boards. One of my favourite projects to make. Have fun.
