Absolutely. I don't think it's been having much of an effect so far, but if this law keeps making headlines, it has the potential to keep people away from Indonesia.

"Digital nomad' visas are easier to get than ever - especially if you're rich"- not necessarily, certainly not now anyway, Thailand do a digital nomad visa that is very affordable as long as you got an income stream and 500,000 baht (Roughly 12,000 pounds) in your bank account. Plus you don't have to get by on just digital nomad visas, you can do it on tourist visas which cost very little, you certainly do not have to be rich to be a digital nomad.
the topic of indonesian's growth and living in proximity to the indonesian market has nothing to do with a digital nomad lifestyle - a digital nomad is someone who works online and can work from anywhere. if you're working in Bali and doing business in Indonesia that's not really anything to do with digital nomadism is it?
I'm rich yet still trying to figure out how I can live in thailand. Thai companies dont want to hire foreigners who earn well in their home country as they are considered expensive. Even if you are rich, these visas arnt worth it if you are taxed in both countries. And alot of countries dont have long term tourist visas for people who are rich and even when they do, you spend all your money on the visa than the stay itself which also males it not worth it. So even bu saying there are options for rich people, the problem is the hoops that you need to go through to get these long stays are just not worth it for the rich.

Of course this video never mentions what exactly these digital "jobs" are.
mostly youtubers
any "work at home" job really..
dat's waht The Google, BING, DuckDuckGo & friends éksist.
IT Support Work, Free Lancers alike.
Anything that you do that uses your brain! most jobs can be done remotely. Demand remote
This isn't really about digital nomads who live around the world for a few months but wealthy entrepeneurs moving to Indonesia to start a business...
This French guy is happy to pay some taxes because in France he would pay 50% of his wealth. Much better in Indonesia.
When I retire, I plan to move to a different country each year and experience life there.
Ah yes, let's make life even easier and better for rich people. Thanks, society!
Cope lol
essentially what they are saying is that they can use cheap labor to pay for things they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford in their home countries....
If Bali is too boring just try Lombok or Raja Ampat or anywhere in east regions of Indonesia
people don't go there to have vacations they go there because they are broke and they are trying to build a business they don't have money to live in Europe, they chose Bail because they can live conformably under 1500 per month with all the amenities they need
Raja Ampat is an absolute paradise!!! But not really for digital nomads. But what a dream come true!
East region is dangerous.
And less developed
Most digital nomads earn a very average salary but when you live in cheap countries you can live like a king they are not richer than you but the location allows them to spend the same amount of money on many more goods and services.
Wow this is amazing I will share this with friends and family.
People wondering
The fastest way to be a digital nomad and enjoy a lifestyle like this, get into Tech jobs.
I am currently on my way to be a Software Developer which will eventually earn me this.
'Loneliness' is one of the drawbacks? I think most digital nomads come to Colombia because of the warm social relationships!
I think most of them would not feel that way otherwise they would not want to moving around, seeing new things, and meeting new people along the way.
If any nomad wants to get robbed or killed, Colombia is the best place for that.
I'm doing this next year. 7 months. Starting in Bali and Gilli T, then up Thailand, Cambodia, China, Japan across to Hawaii and then...? :D
I'd skip Gili T, Labuan Bajo-Komodo boat tour was much better.
Are you sure about China?
Afghanistan is cheap. You can stretch your dollar there
@@nikita5662 XD
Come to Taipei! I’ve been here for two years now and it’s great!
As a digital nomad based out of the USA are people considered an itinerant by the IRS or do they keep a home or apartment? Obviously keeping a home or apartment that you are never at makes it less efficient/more expensive. So i'm guessing, most do something like, "hey mom and dad can i use your address as my place of residence" Correct me if i'm wrong! It's funny how this very important detail is left out by so many vloggers and without mom and dad, it would not be possible.
you could just be stupid
Some states let you have po box address.
You dont need 130k to get a digital nomad visa.🙄 you just need to make $2000 a month and work digitally.
For 60 days, and renewable twice for a total of 6 months. It's a great option if you're only interested in staying for a short amount of time.
There is a peaceful country in the lap of Himalayas...Nepal. It is safe, the view is wonderful, foods are mostly fresh and organic and locally grown, Air quality is pure to breathe (expect Kathmandu may be), Internet of upto 400 mbps is accessible, people are friendly ...and overall cost of living is way cheaper (100$/ month will be more than enough to have a proper balanced diet for dinner and breakfast). And another 100-150$/ month as rent in a reasonable place to stay. If you are nomad or want to work from home, just check this place. A true heaven.
Which city
Yes I think it would be perfect…except no surf. Maybe snowboarding😊
Lol.
Nepal is prone to mega natural disasters and the weather is unpredictable(bad).
Too cold man
What is the digital nomad visa requirement? is it strict?
wow this is exactly what rich young people needed! they are so stunning and brave to be coming over to those countries and gentrifying those areas. using first world money and favorable exchange rates to subjugate the local population into servitude and sex work is A-mazing!
Over the years of traveling I’ve met lots of “ digital nomads “ at the hostels of 5-10 euros a night. Not all of them are successful, lots of them working 4-8 hours glue to their computer. Usually they go to more affordable countries none of them could live In Australia in that kind of money.the one who can you don’t find them in hostels anymore the rent a flat somewhere in the world and stay longer. Asia is very affordable to be in. when you get pay an ok salary, but even there if you want to have high standards living you’ll need to pay more. It’s very easy to live in India you can get long visa, and it’ll affordable but also price tag be accordingly. It’s like driving fiat dreaming about Ferrari
From where you are?
I was born in Australia and can’t afford to live here. I want to move to Thailand and many Thai people want to move here. Must be great financial incentives to immigrate here because so many working citizens are sleeping in tents now. The homelessness can’t be hidden anymore; not even in ‘well off’ suburbs. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side but I guess you can plant some wherever you go.
Why should i go to india when I can stay in my perfect europe
@@wizaaeed nobody asked you to
Bali is waaaay the best. Sweetheart people in the world. For sure
Finally! Great news. All I have to do now is just to become a digital nomad and get rich
No, get rich and then become a digital nomad
Digital nomad life is the best
Bali is amazing bros def visit if u haven’t yet
Bali, "one of the best places to surf, in the world" 😅
Mate get this guy on a flight to Australia, straight to Bells Beach, NSW. That's a real wave to surf!
This is so great to hear, we would love to consider bali for more of a long term... but sadly there is no way to bring pets 😢
I really wish they allowed pet as well because Bali is one of my favorite destinations
I can’t recommend Portugal enough been an incredible experience here 👌
Do you have any specific cities that you like?
You need to be rich already to apply for these... Very few people outside of Europe and the USA earn above those thresholds.
Bali has never interested me as a long term living location. I prefer international big cities or mountain towns.
Prefer a metro, or redlight district over a humid beach.
In Indonesia if you deposit 130 K dollar or 2 billion rupiah..you would get interest return about 4 million rupiah or 250 dollar a month with 3% interest....4 million rupiah it's about the minimum wage of our workers...if you life in rural...there is accomodations with only 1,5 million rupiah/ 100 dollar a month ..that's include air conditioner...that's homestay called " kos - kosan"..
Bali Visa is easy anyway…tell me if I can get European Country or Hawai
you can get an European digital nomad without any money only making 2k per month, the issue is that you are forced into their tax net, europe has some of the highest taxes in the world.
You can get a D7 visa to Portugal. I think for around 750 euros per month earning.
@@emanuelriquelme1133 I don't mind paying their taxes...if I can get the same benefits Europeans get
Unfortunately there are bunch of digital nomad who lives in indonesia doesn’t pay their tax and illegally work there. This needs to be fixed
Having money helps
4:01 I wonder how she got nanny in the country he now lives in.
I understand and don’t at the same Time I would hate that hectic lifestyle of having to work and enjoy my surroundings all In the same day every day. If I’m going to travel ill do it when I’m wealthy
Hopefully that actually happens for you. I think some people feel that waiting for that can take years longer than they thought, and life is happening
Lombok island neighbour Bali also quite crowded
"If you're rich"
Well that rules out 50% of the population
@Will Swift a lot lot more 😅
Or 90%, if you mean "the world's population".
Not all men are equal 😊
Thanks but I'll pass, and stick with North America, and winter in Mexico, or the Caribbean.
Exactly this is what thought, u can't become a nomad if u are poor, poor ppl become backpackers- with a laptop
Uhgg, Now that nomadism hit mainstream media I fear the worst for the trend!
Breaking news: Stuff is easier if you are rich!
Amazing! You learn something new every day!
Who would have known things got easier when you're rich. This is news to me!
Digital nomad visas are definitely opening up new opportunities for remote workers, but it's a shame that financial status plays such a huge role in accessibility. Let's hope more inclusive options emerge soon for diverse digital nomads! ✈💼🌍
financial status has to play a huge role cuz the whole point of the visas is to get people to come there and boost the economy , so if anyone can apply , even people that wouldnt contribute or want to simply run from their countries would just apply and move there , causing a lot of problems in terms of immigration and all that
That’s insightful all right!
Perfect for Swing or daytraders🎉
Wait... I know some of the people shown in this video and they left Indonesia like 2-3 years ago... They don't work or live there anymore, yet this video shows them working in cafes/restaurants in Bali and they look quite a bit younger as well... Is this an old video? Is this a reupload maybe? What's up?
That was more like a promotion for the few countries mentioned.
I think being in a cheap country is great but conservatism tilt is concerning. Didn't Indonesia pass a law banning pre marital sex? More is to come.
You misunderstood the law, apparently. The law is used to punish sexual abuser. You will be called by the police if and only if the girl you slept with go to police and tell the police that you are a sexual abuser ( of course she has to bring all the evidence. You are not guilty as long as it is not proven) . As long as no one goes to police, everything is fine
@@RayhanHibatullah But laws against abuse had always existed. That's like saying the abused girl had no recourse available to her before this law. You may be correct though. Could you share any link which provides a more detailed explanation? Would read.
It's probably not going to be enforced against the expats.
Why pay 130k for a permanent visa? Just travel around its free. Its not mandatory to have a steady place to live...
This is really aimed at business people.
LOL you don't need to pay that amount, it's only mandatory to shown to the immigration office that you have savings in the bank $130k
Indonesia may work for Australians, but I'm unwilling to relocate to a country where they drive on the wrong side of the road, unless I can take a cab everywhere I need to go.
Do you think humans will move to where they are treated the best?
I'm rich yet still trying to figure out how I can live in thailand. Thai companies dont want to hire foreigners who earn well in their home country as they are considered expensive. Even if you are rich, these visas arnt worth it if you are taxed in both countries. And alot of countries dont have long term tourist visas for people who are rich and even when they do, you spend all your money on the visa than the stay itself which also males it not worth it.
So even bu saying there are options for rich people, the problem is the hoops that you need to go through to get these long stays are just not worth it for the rich.
Do not seeing Bali only, Indonesia is very Vast, there are other "Bali" that still Untouched in other parts of Indonesia, there're still "Paradise" hidden and waiting to be see...
Bali is about to be played out lol
Bt for indian middle class tourists visa is most difficult. And if u lower middle class or poor then impossible. In india 80% population don't have a single flight experience.😪
I am not sure these guys understand the term "nomad" very well.
Wouldn't this drive up prices for the community? I hope the purchasing power of the locals could catch up to that. Otherwise, it seems cruel.
a traders heaven
It’s not easy as it looks like if you are U.S. citizen you can run Airbnb and uber and Turo business and retire in middle America
I looked into this because I'm moving there and you have to deposit that $130k into a bank account there and it has to stay the length of the Visa, it's not worth it long term.
Bali is too hot. There is nothing to do in that region except tourism
Every day I'm learning something new
The woman with the child has to understand that the education her daughter will receive would be inferior to Australia or USA. Furthermore she would be limited socially. So it’s really not an advantage for the child in those realms. Seems she just likes the nanny service, don’t we all but alas motherhood is sacrifice and hard work
What jobs or careers can make this happen?
Dude, everything is easier when you are rich lmao
Bro if you’re rich everything is easier 😅
Wait. The point of being a digital nomad and going to Bali was because its supposed to be cheap to go there. Why would I go there now?
I want to go to the Philippines? doesn't it has a visa for digital nomads yet? :c
Indonesia isn't giving access to their market to foreigner's, that's misleading
It seems that this segment is part of an advertising campaign to promote Bali as destination of choice for digital nomads.
Bali is no. 1 destination for digital nomads already though. You see people come in and go out of Bali pretty fast.
@@harukrentz435 ok that's your opinion i respect that
You nailed it!! CNBC is mostly business advertising, it's funny how MOST people don't recognize it. They at least make it engaging and informative.
I kinda am curious about the wages for the employees you hire. This has possibilities but the statement from the guy saying that you need a lawyer and it's still confusing as to the rules and taxes makes me hesitant to think this will be really anything but a vacation type visa with minor extension perks
Consider visiting Siargiao, Philippines as a digital nomad. That place is a hidden paradise
It's not to hidden it's packed with westerners actually. But it's still really nice
Yes, until you're the next victim of the drug war. Like what happened to the Spanish expat-Diego Lafuente.
Are you currently there now? I'm thinking of staying there for at least a month but I'm worried about the internet connectivity
Lots of murders there go unreported.
