i played this as a bass clarinet for my district honor band this year, it sounds so much different here from when you're actually playing in the middle of a band, and this song is glorius
I could see this EASILY working on the field for marching band....which probably would cause you major heartburn. But listening to this, it's easy to visualize. GREAT GREAT music and textures. THIS IS GRADE 2?!?!? Wow....I'm old.
This was my first piece of my 8th grade year and my first stab at playing the oboe. I thought this piece was fun and challenging; a great way to start off a year!
My (small school) band played this a few years back. Most of the people who played it have graduated or left but the few who are still here (myself included) can't end their obsession with it.
Yo Randall, I play this with my band and every day we come into a picture of you on a music stand captioned “Randy on a Standy”. Just wanted to let you know we love this song and are hoping to hear more soon :)
i play the alto sax and we do the little background part for you and the tenors during the middle part and i get goosebumps when you guys come in and nearly lose my place each time
Favorite concert band song... like... EVER!!! We did it for middle school district band, and it was clearly a favorite. I got baritone sax, and it took like five minutes to catch my breath after the song
Hi Randall, I'm a huge fan of your music, we will be playing this song at our spring band concert, we are rehearsing it right now and it is really something, I play the flute and I love this piece
We play at least one of your songs each year. Keep up the great music! Our band loves playing it. I play Trombone and we're playing this for competition this year, So much fun.
I am playing this song at the music conference in Louisville,KY........its my favorite song....You have inspired me to take my music more seriously........I just want to say Tank you for the time you put into your music so we can enjoy it.....Thank you Randall
I remember playing this in 8th Grade as a Trumpet. I remember there was the G that no one could play because we were all weaklings lol. I was the only one to play it in the concert... good times... hella nostalgic
Hey, Mr. Standridge! I am a huge fan! I played Skygazer Fanfare last year at my band concert and now I am trying to convince my teacher if we can play this one! Thanks for the awesome music!
I loved going to ACSI festivals at my old school! Too bad our band couldn't play anything cool and complicated. I'm rooting for you! (It was at that moment that she realized this was posted 3 years ago.) Frick.
At 0:38 when the clarinets play there (don’t know what measures) my teacher didn’t let me play that part at the concert because the other girls who played the same part as me couldn’t play it and I could which I found so unfair. Who agrees?
Soundin' like the beginnin' or the endin' of a mid-90's early 00's sci-fi knock-off from Star Wars. Prolly got robot aliens runnin' 'round and their language be wingdings. When I was younger, I thought these songs in band was LIT!
I know, right? I strained to hear any at all! And then I realized that I was lumped in with either clarinet or trumpet the entire time, I was lucky nobody could hear me.
I'm afraid that won't be the case for long, eventually, you will give into the temptations of the tuba, like many before you... (I know this, and I'm not even a tuba player...)
Thank you for the kind comments, I hope you are enjoying the music.
This is a great piece! I played your piece “Dragon Lord” recently for a concert. Absolutely loved it, a great and powerful song like this one.
